The Whiskey Crusaders review Aberfeldy 18 Year Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Finished in Tuscan Red Wine Casks which comes in at 86 proof. It was created in 2022 by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod who has won best blender of the year the past 4 years in a row. This is the 4th in the red wine finishing series. This one is finished in Tuscan red wine casks from Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast which is the winery that started Super Tuscan red wines. This is first finishing not from France. Prior in the region Chianti was the dominate wine but they started experimenting with new grapes in the 60s and 70s rather than just native Italian grapes so in order to not be called table wine they created the term Super Tuscan as it was much better than table wine. They were using cab, merlot, cab franc, and Syrah and then using French barriques rather than traditional Slavonian oak which makes it a much more robust, dark fruit and an intense oak finish. In this region they use French grapes in this region usually a cabernet base as the topography is similar to Bordeaux. Bolgheri is a region of Tuscany which has its own legal definition since 1994 as it is even more specialized on the coast of Tuscany with a more maritime type of wine and can use up to 100 & cab, merlot, or cab franc grapes, or 50% Syrah or Sangiovese which is then blended Petit Verdot (up to 30%) and other complementary grapes. For Superiore labels, a wine must also be aged for at least two years with a minimum of one year in oak barrels. There are 52 wineries that currently operate in Bolgheri region. Most are small family-owned estates.

did you release this too early? usually you don't have one out until Monday. i dig aberfeldy but i have not seen anything on shelves past the 16.

No we actually missed the Thursday release and this was to make up for it. Also yes this is special new one. Hopefully it will hit shelves soon. You can find a regular 21yr occasionally. Cheers
