I loved this! The choir gave it so much more texture. And the 'speedy' vocal runs by Rahat are amazing! Wow, I think the message of the song is timeless which is probably why it has been around for centuries. Thank you for sharing this!

Rahat Fateh Ali performed at the Nobel Prize conference. It’s called “Raag”. It’s a real fun listen and he was invited by Malala Yousefzai.

Fun fact. This performance was a rehearsal, but it was so good they decided to go with it. And, thank you for covering this genre. Another Coke Studio by Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is "rang" with another great singer Amjad Sabri, if you have another rainy day and time. Also you are correct the poem Chaap Tilak has been sung countless times since it was written by Amir Khusrau, and many many times in just the last few years uploaded on youtube. A traditional way it has been sung in a 'Qawali' format by Farid Ayaz and Abu Muhamed & party here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rabbhHmQi5pkjZo. Warning, its 47 minutes long.

Loved watching it with you and glad you loved and felt the song as well which tells you have a very good taste in music and open to new music. Fun facts Bjork considers Abida Parveen one of her favourite singers. Also Rahat is classically trained by the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK) who was his Uncle, Nusrat is considered to be the greatest singer of all time, where Abida is known as Queen of Sufi music, Nusrat is known as King of Kings for Qawali music (form of Sufi Music), he also perforemd on the sound track of Dead Man Walking, Petetr Gabriel called Nusrat along with Otis Redding most iconic voices and his inspirations. Jeff Buckley called Nusrat his faourite singer calling him his Elvis and even sung his songs in Urdu, thou these singers are loved by billions in South Asia and all around the world but they may be new for many in your part of the world so just giving you some known singers references about these singers. Do react to more of Pakistani Music, I recommend reacting to "Hor Vi Neevan Ho by Noori" or "Naina Mooray".

Good that you have started listening and appreciating our Sufi music. The credit goes to Coke studio that brought these centuries old traditional pieces of poetry to life by infusing modern touch vocally, instrumentally and visually. Not every singer can sing Sufi music. It is sung out of sheer ecstasy and devotion to the spirit behind the words. This is the reason that these legendary singers can sing with their full heart and soul. You will be surprised to know that every Sufi song from Coke studio that you have reacted to was recorded in one take. Isn't it wonderful?

You are the early baby bomers while I fit the later period. Well 1958 to be exact. Have seen Genesis, 78 Led zeplin at Knebworth Park in 79 and The Who at Wembley again in 79 . Then Queen at Elen Road Leeds in 82. Spent more than 40 years listening to Rock. But like you now things have slowed down and fusion of Sufi music and Rock is a great innovation. Wish I had thought of it. But who ever did a great thanks to him from us older folk.

Wow, that's a great lineup. Any time different genres combine, you're in for a treat. It really brings out the best of each. BTW, 1958 as well.
