Thanks so much for this very interesting ramble round the town of Abingdon. Love old buildings and never been there so enjoyed it! And for the narrative along the way! 😁. As for shops like Boots etc, they’re fine as long as there are independent ones too. Never did like Wetherspoons! Don’t like their queuing. Look forward to the next walk.

My Grandad was the landlord of the Nag’s Head (on the bridge) in the late 60s/early 70s &, prior to our move from Cholsey, my Parents & I lived there for a while. The fishing from the pubs jetty was brilliant.

This is amazing! My husband and I are walking the Thames Path and we only just visited Abington for the first time a few weeks ago (even though we live in Oxford.) we came to the same conclusion, that it is just beautiful! I can’t wait to watch more of your videos (eg Wallingford, which we have visited the past two weekends and is also lovely.) ❤

Such a shame you didn’t spend a little longer in Abingdon there is so much more to look at easily from where you had been. A minute down bridge street you would have arrived at the river Thames and the old gaol another minute from where you parked and you would have seen St Helen’s church by the Thames and in west st Helen’s street a house where William of orange stayed great video though 👍☢️

Great info Usually when I visit the first time I miss lots and then my lovely viewers do exactly as you’ve done there and let me know all the little tips that I can get on my next trip!

I went to secondary school in Abingdon from 1970 to 1975, there is a fair in October that goes from one end of Ock Street to the other, St. Helens church is one of only two that is wider than it is long

sadly its lost so much over the years there is no real shops they have all gone if you filmed this in the 60ts and 70ts it would have been a very busy market town with a full range of shops its my home town of 55 years ! now we live in Lincolnshire by the sea but Abingdon is in my heart always

Sadly I don't live in England anymore. My parents moved us to the US when I was a teen and I'm OLD now 🤣 One of my biggest complaints of all of the towns here is that they all look the same as you drive into them with the same big box stores and other shops. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thanks for bringing a little bit of 'back home' to my big screen. ❤️🇬🇧 Oh, and we have an Abingdon about 30 mins away from me in Illinois. I've never been there so can't judge it, but one of my former bosses grew up there. Not the history of your Abingdon though 😒

Abingdon Abbey founded in c657 AD instead of 1657 you may need to rescript that bit as the date stated in the video is way off the mark and it is indeed far earlier.

In America, the big chains have run out almost all of the independents. I can still find independent eating places which I love but as for clothes, shoes, outdoor wear, tools & just about everything else, the ONLY place to buy is the chain stores. So sad.
@GimbalWalkTV2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's heading that way in the UK too although there's a real thirst for independent shops still which gives me a little tiny glimmer of hope

I know the people in Abingdon are lovely, especially when they're drunk out of their skulls from a wedding, and offer you a slice of a Lemon drizzle wedding cake worth a grand! 🤣🤣🤣 I bet they got that cake back, and the bride and groom must've said Where's the rest of it? 🤣🤣

Sorry I think your wrong about Abingdon been the oldest town in England. If you go to Colchester there is a sign that said it's the oldest town in the uk. I think it's on the A133 and has been there since I was a kid and I'm now in my late 50s
