Joseph H yesssssss please that’s the biggest question I have too! My Pastor has always been against using these different softwares for our church congregations, but after all of this chaos going on we’ve been forced to go live which in my opinion I was excited because finally we are up to date with these cool features!

@@jojothe2nd607 If you use arrangement view like this example, then you could put in markers for the start of each section and then map the important ones to a controller of some sort. Would probably work quite well if you had a controller with a grid of buttons like a launchpad or similar and used each column of buttons for the different main sections and then a row for each song. Most people who jump around between songs as far as I can tell use session view though. Ian McIntosh from Jesus Culture has a course on it which I think is pay as you feel at the moment which explains how to set it up using session view.

Behringer basic in ear works fine!!! I recently heard Darlene Zschech describe the 'thing' we stand on at the front of the church .... the "platform". She encourages not calling it a 'stage'. Stages age are for performance. Platform is to be seen so Zacchaeus doesn't have to climb up a tree. It sounds silly to differentiate, but really helpful to change the culture away from performing.

Hey Jake, I was really excited when I saw this. We’ve been using ableton for years and use it in the session view but we learned just enough how to make it work without ever improving it. I think your method would be a huge benefit to us! I will say watching this video, I kept waiting for the how to’s for each step. Every time I thought you would go there, it was on to the next step of what you could do. Any chance of a part 2 of this coming out that is more how to focused? Some things that would benefit me watching is bringing those song templates in to a set list. What are your steps for that? Since you use ableton in arrangement mode how do you set your midi to fire song 1, then 2 and so on? That’s something really easy to do in session view but a little less intuitive in arrangement view. What’s your process for creating midi cues and writing those in to a song? I noticed the labeling at the top of your timeline from song to song, how did you create that? I guess if there were time for you to screen record creating a set list from start to finish one week that would be amazing! Hope this doesn’t come across as griping, because this is great content! I could just personally use a little bit more how to with these steps to wrap my brain around them! Thanks for all you do.

I appreciate all the work you're putting in to helping out us worship leaders! Even though the current standard is Ableton Live, I think there are plenty of other options that should be able to do the same functions, like Bitwig Studio. The problem I'm running into is that 99% of the information for performance DAW software (documentation/tutorials) is for recording, or EDM performance. I really wish software companies would have more resources on how to use their products in a performance/backing track setting. I'm studying your workflow, and want to eventually try to do the same things with Bitwig, because it runs in Linux (which is what I use). There is *no* info on how to do this, so I'm resorting to watching Ableton stuff and trying to cross-apply it.

Awesome video Jake, really helpful. I'm working at a really small church with little to no budget (around 50 people), I have managed to implement in ear monitoring and we are currently implementing pads and looking to introduce a Click Track soon. We are currently using OpenLP for lyrics and OBS for livestreaming as they are both free opensource programs that do the job effectively. It may be a struggle to introduce Ableton Live for automation (£250 for standard) as well as getting a seat licence for ProPresenter (approx £280). On top of that I would have to introduce a mac system to effectively run both (2 base model M1 Mac minis £699 each). So I am looking at £2000+ upgrade to a system that doesn't even have a digital sound desk yet (Allen & Heath PA20-CP) (also Zero budget). I honestly really think that Ableton Live paired with automation for Lyrics is the best way forward, but I may have to accomplish it by taking it one very small step at a time (over the course of a few years).

you've got me sold on Ableton Live - started using this for my church several months ago, got the churchfront pads as well. I like arrangement view the way you present it and that's how I've been using it. My question is, how do you deal with a group of songs with different time signatures. This has been a pain for me. It does not seem automatic that time signatures paste in. I could have a set with mostly 4/4 but one 6/8 or even a few songs that go between 3/4 and 4/4 for a few measures at a time (It Is Well or Death Was Arrested if my memory is working) Jake - How do you deal with these time signature changes being pulled into your set-list?
