instructions are from 2:40 - 3:50. tl;dr, connect both laptops to the same network and click the Link button in the upper left.

Is it possible to do it with a ethernet or a usb c cable between two computers rather than wifi ?
@DavidBoura8 жыл бұрын
4:27 is it normal that the two metronomes show desync'ed buttons? I guess there's no delay in a Local network, but what's the average delay with someone a few kms away, or from another far country? I'd like to know feedbacks from people who use it for collabs!

So each participant should have it s own audio ouput right? Please help? Like a separate audio interface?

that does not matter you could have both outputs going to the same mixer or have separate monitors for both.

Can Link also be used to set up a connection between two computers, One using Ableton Live and the other using something like Serato or the likes. I know that in the past there was the Bridge but I think that was only used to connect the two software packages together one the same computer. This would be great since I use Ableton Live and my friend uses Serato at the Club. It is very hard to get the two different software to line up correctly. Like you said you can use the tap tempo, and the nudge but that is very difficult to get right.

dj - bb Link code has been made available for all developers to add to their software for free. So far those who have adopted it are Serato, Traktor, Maschine, and I 'think' Reaktor also but I'm not positive. Reason would be a good candidate I think.

Reason has Ableton Link.

Any thoughts on Ableton/Cubase or Ableton/Logic? We are planning on using Cubase for VST Synths and having Ableton master the tempo in a live setting along with a foot controller triggering samples and/or chords (set-up with drums, guitar, bass and vocals/keys). Thanx in advance!

Is it just me or does it just sync audio? Id doesnt seem like Link captures any audio via wifi connection. From my understanding, you still need all the bells and whistles to record said audio. Cause if I use my phone with my laptop, Abelton doesnt get any audio from my phone. If anyone can help me understand, otherwise it seems a little useless rn.

Do you need an external router to connect computers through link? Or just a local ad hoc will suffice?
@bboymac847 жыл бұрын
Vocalead adhoc works just not well when linking a Mac and Windows. I recently tried it. the Windows will find the Macs adhoc but wont connect. Mac to Mac will work fine though.
@vocalead7 жыл бұрын
Mac Joseph thanks man. I was trying to make sure that they weren't using any external routers in the video. Yeah we all have Macs in our band, so in that case I'm sure we'll be ok.

are you able to recored audio/midi from say an ipad to ableton thru link? that's what i cannot figure out.
@falloutguy84726 жыл бұрын
MrAmato1987 no you cannot. Just syncs the metronomes of two computers You can record the midi and audio from one device into another with a soundcard and different cables though. Just a lot of configuration you need to do to set that up. It can be confusing. IMO you don’t need all that. Jam with link til you got your parts recorded in both devices, then export whatever audio midi clips you need and send em to whichever device you want after. They’ll be in sync because they were recorded at the same tempo thanks to ableton link

I've been experimenting with link but there are two things i still can't figure out, firstly: how play two computers off of one set of monitors and secondly: how to merge the outcoming project between the two computers

Did you ever figure out the two computers off of one set of monitors question? I'm trying to figure that out without have to use two audio interfaces.
