I am Taiwanese. I still have fond memories of riding the Sanko Line from Miyoshi to Gotsu in 2010. It's really sad that the Sanko Line is gone. In fact, the Sanjiang Line on the last day of the trip was broadcast live on Taiwan TV, and many Taiwanese cried when the last train bound for Hamahara arrived at Hamahara Station.🥲
Very unusual, scenic and enjoyable route! MOW crew needs to find their clippers and trimmers! : )

Excellent video, without jingle jangles, crying infants or endless announcements. Sad to see the line closed, but I can understand why, with miles of track running close beside and 15 to 20 feet above roads, which would need endless vigilance, a huge number of level crossings and many miles of track to maintain. In the end, with few passengers, it is inevitable that the bean counters are going to win over any social needs, and we all lose. I loved this line, reminding me as it does of England in some ways, in places like Wales, Yorkshire and the Lake District, all wet, green and steep.

> it is inevitable that the bean counters are going to win over any social needs, and we all lose. Bean counters give you cold hard truth: "it is not efficient". If buses make more economical sense in a particular case, close the rail line and use the bus. What's the problem.

I always research the lines I watch ... And I confess that I was sad to see that it ended in 2018 😢😭... A fabulous, almost magical journey ... The reason was the low demand, right? ... Really, in this video this was evident, unfortunately ... but the path is beautiful ... something could be done in a tourist nature ... maybe. ... And the video is wonderful.👏👏👏 Congratulations!!!👍😳👍

@@AVianna0777 I saw some rural routes on other videos where it seems to be a passenger here or there, but surprisingly they still ran a train

@@Stache987 ... Yes, true. I've watched routes that went through countless KMs and stations without even a soul boarding... 😥 That's why several of these routes were converted from rail to bus lines. There's even the case of Kesennuma. They converted a stretch destroyed in the 2011 events into the BRT System, 🚍 but which is also in low demand. 😯

I strongly agree, way too slow, we live in a town here with excellent freight service coverage, but it wouldn't be covered for passenger rail service, although it would be nice. Our national rail passenger corporation AMTRAK passes through the state in two areas, one it does to meet another state. It doesn't serve our capital city directly, you have to drive a hour south to catch the daily single run. This country has become so automobile-centric railroads are a OVERPRICED luxury and take days to cross the country. Most all railroads here terminate in Chicago.
