Lost almost 30lbs?! How is that possible? Carbs are a couple pounds heavier than the injection but damn. Nice work. Yeah, mine is currently around 950lbs
@gusbisbal98034 жыл бұрын
Trent I asked the same question and I asked Thomas Hauklien of Edge performance engines how could this be? His response was "the 915 has a messy wiring harness, huge heavy CB/Relay/Capacitor box, twice as heavy gearbox, heavier crank, heavier turbo and exhaust system, dual injectors, sensors etc. it all adds up"
@About2Stall4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Trent! Yeah like Gus said, it comes down to lighter parts!

I think Trent was asking how you lost 30lbs vs. the 914 that was in it. I just installed an edge system on my 914, I didn't weight it all out, but I would say their claim of a couple lbs lighter makes sense. Where did the other 25+ lbs of loss come from? It's no surprise the edge motor weighs less than a 915, but how did you guys lose 28 pounds on your bird is the question...
@About2Stall4 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure, but between Edge Performance completely rebuilding our engine and Re-doing the firewall forward we must have shed the weight...

I have questions regarding mogas. In North America, Chevron supplies 94 octane. I some more remote areas your lucky to find 89. Avgas is not recommended for these engines without additives. What do you do if out in the back country and 87 is the only fuel available. Can the engine retard the ignition to compensate for the fuel, or are you stuck on the ground till someone can ferry out high octane. Frankly for a functional back Country aircraft, Id bail on all this extreme high performance boosted performance stuff for a lower compression engine that can burn stale farm gas and can be hand propped if the battery goes dead. A zipper or over size bore kit that keeps the compression down while adding power is the best and most practical for bush in my opinion. More more more may be fun, but is just not needed and can have inconvenient consequences in some cases.

I wish someone would make a prop with beta/reverse for high output piston engines. Airmaster makes a prop that can be reversed but it's limited to 100hp and only really used for backing out amphibian planes. Imagine being able to use that to help land a STOL plane.
@About2Stall4 жыл бұрын
We talked to Airmaster, the prop has to many safety features, so to convert it would be a huge undertaking! But that would be insane🔥🔥

@About2Stall4 жыл бұрын
Yes the Air filter is in the Naca scoop next to the outlet going to the Inter cooler. The throttle cable came from McFarlane Aviation. I believe the Throttle itself you can get from KitFox.

The amount of radiant heat from the exhaust system & turbine housing is going to be horrendous inside the cowling without protection & maybe even to the point of being a fire hazard. 1300-deg-F measured at the port is increased down stream due to pulse stacking from drive pressure, that's why you see it going beyond red hot in places. A full set of custom 3 layer blankets would add about 2lbs to that setup & be so efficient you could hold your hand on it. Unlike that cheesy fiberglass pipe wrap junk, blankets breathe & don't hold moisture to damage components when not in use. I have them on my Subaru aircraft engine, my 600 cu in turbo'd race engine & both turbo diesel's.

The purpose of the intercooler has nothing to do with mass flow density. The pressure will drop with a Temp drop but the mass flow will stay almost the same. As a result the density will not change. The intercooler is there to cool the air and reduce risk of pre-detonation. ie stop hot air going into the cylinder on the intake stroke. This is my pet hate when it comes to forced air intakes. People think that NA engines at STP (Standard Temperature and Pressure) which do get an advantage from cooler air because its a more dense airflow are the same as boosted systems. This is not the same as a turbine or supercharger compressed airstream. Without getting too detailed in relation to fixed volume vs temperature and pressure changes .... the amount of air being pushed in does not change with temperature, the pressure changes. This is different for atmospheric air because there is no containment vessel. More temp on an unconstrained air volume means the pressure drops and the density drops. This miss conception happens when Naturally aspirated engine guys and their "cold air intakes" begin to add turbos and superchargers to their engines and they think it works the same. It doesn't

NONE of this will help on a short landing....., just saying. A 927 pound Kitfox??!!
@About2Stall4 жыл бұрын
To land short is not our problem, we can land very short. Thats why we needed more power to match our takeoff to our landing. But....Having 4 blades instead of 2 or 3 will definitely improve with short landings. The extra blade add extra drag. And the weight we lost on the nose will also decrease the stall speed. Which in turn,,,, improves short landings.

Pls get rid of the ever repeatic „music“ block; its boring, annoying, distracting attention to the subject, and nobody will miss it. It only pleases the restless crazy dancers. Dumping the „music“ equals to dumping weight to the engine. Your vids will become more powerful and efficient.
