Scott's Thoughts

2 жыл бұрын

Playthrough Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle*
3. No glitches or exploits*
4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
Other rules:
-- *Pokeballs & Pokedolls are allowed in battle
-- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
-- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed
-- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
-- My Pokemon has perfect DVs
-- The Trash-Can-Puzzle is automatically solved so times are not affected by RNG
-- The bike is allowed (the bike skip is not)
-- Skipping the bike is not allowed
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
*Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
-- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
-- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
-- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:
-- Clefairy, Clefable, Grimer, Muk, Chansey, Staryu
Yellow Version changes from Red/Blue:
1. You cannot use Dig/Escape Ropes in Bill's House or the Pokefan Club
2. You cannot talk to the trainers in Blaine's gym to battle them
3. Surge, Sabrina, and Blaine do not have Good AI
4. The Elite Four have better movesets
5. Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni have higher level teams
6. Blaine doesn't use Super Potions are full HP
7. The rival picks his eeveelution based on the outcome of the first two battles.
-- Lose in the lab: Vaporeon
-- Win in the lab and skip route 22: Flareon*
-- Win in both locations: Jolteon
-- *You cannot lose on route 22 because you blackout
Terms:
-- STAB
-- Same-Type-Attack-Bonus - a 1.5x damage multiplier
-- Stat Experience
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of effort values. You can invest in all stats until they max
out at 65535
-- DVs or Determinate Values
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of IVs (individual values), these range from 0-15

Thank you for suffering through "Struggling against Brock: The movie: The game" for the sake of science and our enjoyment, I really do appreciate your sacrifices :D To see the contrast between starting with level 5 Gen 1 Abra and hatched level 5 Gen 2 Abra is really interesting and goes to show how imbalanced Gen 1 is because of the yet to happen special split :D

I thought I must have made the whole thing up... thanks for confirming an early childhood memory. 33 attempts. (Not too far off!) Abra is quite an interesting Pokemon, I recalled back in the day that the TCG gave Abra Psyshock (nearly 10 years before it showed up in the game). I was always surprised how powerful it could be and Gen 2 really let it shine. The new art for the Pokemon depending on conditions and the Professor Oak at the end really speaks to the ever-increasing quality (of a channel that already had a pretty high set!) of your productions!

Weedle is essentially impossible without in-battle save states, I'm pretty sure. I mean like using Poison Sting against all of Agatha's Poison-types. You basically need to crit every single hit and them get 1/256 misses regularly. Even then, you might be pushing it with PP. 5 Pokemon, 2 of which are 4x resistant to Poison moves, the other 3 are 2x resistant. 56 PP when maxed out. Gotta take each Pokemon out in ~10 Poison Stings average. It's absolute statistical insanity.

There is a german guy (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXfIgaKdot6jl9k ) who finished red with weedle - but he says it took him several days to beat each, Agatha (1 PP left) and Lorelei. So yes, I think insanity is the correct word.

You want seismic toss vs Zam and Exegg, although I see why it was tempting to burn that TM in the early game. I'll admit I didn't expect to see toxic here. It does work well with rest. However, you may have been able to squeeze by at a lower level with psychic, seismic toss, rest and toxic. You may want to rethink mimic strats or even rest on squishy mons like Abra because they can't risk setting up and don't stall well. Although it might be funny to have a swords dancing Abra. Another possibility here is actually mimicking leech seed which would boost your stall much more than toxic, allowing you to KO faster with seismic toss. Also I have no clue why you'd pick fire punch over barrier. Psychic, ice punch, thunderpunch and barrier would've carried you all the way through the champion. It's why I had this jank moveset on my Mewtwo in Gen 4 with charge beam, icy wind, psychic and drain punch lol.

I love the "what-if" bit in the end! Even if it trivializes the idea, it was a nice section to showcase "an unleashed potential." I would like to see similar to be done with other Pokémon but I started to realize it wouldn't work as nicely with others. Like Caterpie, Kakuna nor Magikarp won't benefit from the generational shift at all, and legendary birds would make sense only for giving something to play with before they start to learn level up moves. So what's only left, is a hack where you could use newer Pokémon with only moves that existed in Gen 1. Probably a topic for another time.

Abra is physically frail, starts with only Teleport and will need to use Struggle, No level up moves, the majority of Kanto TMs are physical attacks, and the closest things to consistent special attack damage it can exploit are TM Psychic and TM Mimic which aren't even accessible until roughly half way through the run. Getting strategically creative with your limited moveset options and good TM management seems like it will be key aspects of getting the best run possible.

I would like to see your take on a “developer intended” or “developer aided” run. It seems all early gen gyms have a Pokémon to be caught just prior or around that is super effective. The challenge I guess would be to find them all and the elite four team can be any of the ones used in the gyms ( pick of 8) examples are mankey in firered, or nidoran male in gen 1 for the first badge, oldish or bell sprout for gym 2, digger for 3 etc.

@Zorafin Жыл бұрын
Nidoran male learns Double Kick in gen 1 at level...43. But in Yellow that's changed to 12. Definitely a way for them to apologize for having so many bad pokemon choices for Brock. But they also let you catch a Mankey there so that's probably the better short term choice. Unless you want a Nidoking in your party long term, of course. I've always been annoyed at your lack of options against Brock. Honestly the best choice is to just catch nothing and use nothing but your starter. Even if you chose Charmander, since Ember actually does more damage to them than you take. Plus you can get a Charmeleon just by taking out the trainers on your way to Brock, and that will let you overpower him with ease. Funnily enough he's the only trainer with that problem. Misty you can catch a Bellsprout or Oddish, Surge has Diglet or Sandshrew if you haven't leveled up a Geodude, and then the game opens up and you can really customize your team for the rest of the game. Probably even catch a Tauros before Erika.

Is the battle with Prof. Oak going to be in all the videos going forward? Would be pretty cool since it's not something the other challenge youtubers do, even if it's off the clock.

Tip for when Ditto happens. If a transformed Ditto levels up in Gen III, it regains its normal stats in place of whatever Pokémon it copied. I’m pretty sure that if Gen III had this glitch, then Gen I likely has it too.
@gerg905
@gerg905 2 жыл бұрын
I'd highly doubt it tbh. Glitches that are consistent between pokemon games are very rare. In fact, I don't know of any glitch that is the same between any two generations. I'd look it up, but Bulbapedia is giving me a 503 error right now.

I think the best way of giving Abra a useable move early on is to change when you receive Psywave. It can never do more than 1.5 times your hp in damage (and usually significantly less) so it would only ever be as overpowered as you are. It would also be a much more appropriate time to receeive it than as a reward for defeating Sabrina.

Maybe it can be a Level 100 move to represent that it’s a move not worth grinding for but if you were you would have something that is slightly more likely to do significant damage because of it having the potential to do 1.5x your health.

I had no idea about that additional trainer in yellow, or how to acquire these pokéballs. I have a feint memory of knowing these pokéballs existed, but I figured I remembered another generation. That's interesting Also - one thing I'm wondering about: Training against the Diglett trainer: Would it potentially be beneficial, to not entirely deplete all Teleports - have like 2-3 left, once you have Abra at a higher level. So you defeat Diglett, but take a bit more damage from it because you have to use turns using Teleport in the trainer battle, then defeat it, but are more likely to feint from the Sandshrew anyways, since you took more damage from Diglett? Edit: My statement is horrible. I mean, intentionally taking more damage in that fight, in order to extend the diglett grind Edit: I bet Kadabra would be faster, purely on the basis of not having to cancel the evolution every other battle Edit 2: I feel like you should never use all your bunny to buy potions

IMHO this is your best video yet. Having the original run where Abra struggled so hard to get past Brock and then the contrast of how easily it gets through everything except the elite 4 and champion in the run with moves it can be transferred back to gen 1 with from gen 2 was really awesome to see. Really highlighted how night and day things can be for Abra.
