Venomoth was the only truly wild shiny I ever encountered, it was in the FireRed Safari Zone. Since it was part ghost-type it was easily able to escape from the safari ball and run away

The Mimic thing when the opposing trainer switches out is a known glitch, yes - If I remember correctly, it didn't just replace your Psychic with Wings Attack during this fight, it actually would be a permanent change to your moveset. So probably a good thing you reset

If memory serves, you would have been stuck with wing attack permanently. Mimic can cause you to learn new permanent moves if a pokemon switches out while it's being used.

1: All you had to do was say “Metronome” and I instantly predicted that you blew yourself up at least once. 2: I have never seen the back Sprites of either Pokémon until now. Very striking due to the color palette. 3: 23:45 I never realized that until you pointed it out. I just thought that Giovanni was picked as his name because it’s Italian and therefore fits the crime boss stereotype.

I remember playing blue as a kid. I beat the Pokemon League, caught Mewtwo and truely believed after soloing the league that Mewtwo was untouchable. Then my dad is like hey, what's that pokemon you think is unbeatable. Mewtwo why? No reason. How about a battle. Sure dad...sends out Cefable. I laugh my head off not knowing the horror in store for me. He proceeds to mop the floor with me. He only raised Clefable, had it at level 85, Body Slam, Thunderbolt, Bubble beam, Psychic. Holy crap...he swept my team ith little resistance and my Mewtwo was broken that day. He still brings that up and it has been 23 years lol. We didn't have all the information about the attack power, etc so he kept Bubble beam instead of using surf, etc. Crazy power with body slam. Paralyze, tank the psychic from Mewtwo and just chop away. Good memories 😊

Clefable doesn't learn Surf, so Bubblebeam is its best water type option. It's the one "weakness" it has once more TMs become available (though Bubblebeam tends to shred well enough thanks to the 4x damage on most Gen1 Rock types). Still, that's kinda wholesome :)

I'd really like to see a houndour run of crystal. It's one of those unfortunate johto pokemon that are locked away in kanto, and it has pretty good stats and moves. It starts with ember and gets bite relatively quickly, later on it naturally learns both flamethrower and crunch. Faint attack is there too for all those annoying evasion strat pokemon. I'm surprised and happy that the channel has grown so fast with just one type of content, great job scott!

The problem with Wigglytuff is that it only has good Hp. It would need Chansey's skill in that it has one other good stat to show how good that hp is. But no, they did Wigglytuff dirty. The only advantage is the wide movepool. And it's hard to take advantage of when you don't have the stats to support it. Love Wiggly, but man it needs something to make it stronger.

I think Wigglytuff got a LOT better after the Special split, making it a weird slow glass cannon with lots of HP but taking lots of damage in return. The increase in Special Attack makes it a lot more reliable and incredibly offensively versatile thanks to its movepool, so when you do play other gens consider giving the fat pink fluff with impeccable hair another shot!

All hail Clefable, the new queen of yellow! I guess normal typing, fast exp curve, amazing moveset, lots of health, enough speed, and great coverage. I figured it would do well, but I didn't expect it to do quite this well!

I know for a fact accuracy and evasion moves effect the badge boost glitch. When I was younger, I would max out my Pikachu's evasion with double team, and notice it hit rock pokemon harder. This was years before it was known as the badge boost glitch. I just assumed "more Pikachus must be hitting Onix, so that must be why my attacks are hitting harder." I never assumed other stats would do that too because I never needed to max something out, and if I did, it's usually Amnesia Mewtwo that one-shot everything anyway. Once I saw the jrose videos bringing it up, I remember thinking "... Is that what that was?"

I remember way back when, reading gamefaqs and people talking about an opponent lowering defense and the pokemon hitting a little harder, calling it the revenge factor. I'm sure this was before the glitch was figured out.

For what it's worth, I hadn't thought of Giovanni's name meaning either. I always thought it was just a cool Italian mobster name. As a kid, I remember using Clefairy and Clefable quite a lot. They always seemed very special even before learning they were actually good. I'm glad you're doing these videos and bringing so much out of the Pokemon you feature. Scott, I'd like to thank you for these calming Pokemon run videos. Last year, I was having a rough go of it and needed a colonoscopy to see if I was doing well with my gut health. I was so hungry the day before the liquid diet that I was nauseous, so I ate a bunch of food and had to focus on SOMETHING to keep it all down. Your Gengar v Alakazam video and its long run time did the trick and I was able to make it through the night and find out I'm in good health a couple days later. I always wanted to thank you for helping me through that hour of nausea hunger until I was able to sleep.

Nice runs, tip: with these diverse move pool types, it's sometimes faster to teach water gun & keep it a bit. After rock tunnel, if available, ice beam is better. More often then not, water gun is sufficient for everything up until celadon. Saving the bubblebeam tm cam prove faster. Using ice beam for Erika, replace with bubblebeam for rock types / Blaine / Giovanni, replace with blizzard after with it's massive power & decent acc. Leaves an open slot for defense curl / rest / reflect throught playthrough. Thanks for your vids. Always a treat to watch.

BubbleBeam is pretty bad against Blaine… at least that’s been my experience with it. Anything that’s STAB generally does better there.

If I had to take a guess, Wigglytuff was designed to be bad. Clefairy was supposed to be the series mascot, so the Jigglypuff line would be the jealous moon rabbit rival to the moon fairy. Makes sense that Clefairy would evolve into the better of the two.

Thought I'd mention that in gen 1 OU competitive; Clefable does actually have a unique talent that makes it kinda interesting. It's completely unwallable. You see when running Blizzard and Thunderbolt, as well as Thunderwave you can either Cripple or threaten almost everything, if only Chansey wasn't everywhere to stop you, well that's where MEGA KICK comes in! Mega kick is pretty much the only advantage that Clefable has to Chansey, and it actually enables it to threaten Chansey and Alakazam which usually would wall it! Wigglytuff gets the same move too, but it's special is so low that it doesn't really threaten anything else besides by useing Mega kick.

Did you know the pokemon red/blue TAS used to catch Clefable? It was because of how absurd it was its level up and normal STABs and coverage. Then it uses Tauros because of fissure and horn drill.

@@critormiss6084 Indeed it does. It also manipulates RNG for 1/256 misses and only get the desired encounters. Again, Clefable is absurd and he only picked Tauros due to OHKO moves. In short, Clefable always has been at least respectable and it's no wonder why it's a monster now that it has a great hability and defensive typing alongside its signature versatility.

Clefaible is actually rly good, espacially in Gen1 due to its pretty good special. I had a Normal-Type Nuzlocke and thought it was over when after Victory road only Clefaible was left. Then I singlehandedly first-tried the Elite 4 with it and its moveset of STAB Strengh, Icebeam, Sing and Minimize, such a champ

I will be pleasantly surprised if Wigglytuff wins but I'm expecting Clefable... even more so after seeing their stat differences. I didn't realise Clefable had so much Attack and such a big difference in base stat compared to Wigglytuff. Funny and interesting video here; the fact that both these cutesy Pokémon worked best with brute force strategies during a good chunk is hilarious. Your freeze luck was great and the early game Metronome always ensures a good laugh.

Clefable is well known for being one of the best in-game Pokemon. Early evolution, solid stats, and can learn thunderbolt, icebeam, and psychic. Nidoking and Nidoqueen are also known, for the same reasons.

With the stone evolution, any else think it is weird that some Pokémon either gain or switch typing while other don’t. I wish a mechanics of stone evolution was giving a secondary typing once evolved (or switched in the evolution). Also, I think they could have used Clefable (whether starting Gen 1 or Gen 2) to have an interesting typing once evolved, to where it retains its mono normal (then fairy typing) if it evolve without knowing Metronome, but it gains random secondary typing (to highlight the randomness of Metronome) if Clefable evolve with knowing the move.

When I was a kid, I thought of the moon stone as the "vanilla" stone that evolved normal types. Other stones evolved into those kinds of types. But then there's Nidoking and Nidoqueen

Scott, you seemed to really enjoy Clefable. I would suggest looking up the Clefable speedrun route. You might be able to punch that time even lower! If not, there's a lot of tricks that Speedrunners use that would come as a great use to you!

Heya, nice vid again :D I think there would be a nice strategy against Brock with Wigglytuff: you could preserve one or two Disables to disable Geodude's only move Tackle, so you can setup Defense Curls while Geodude is hitting itself due to Struggle :)

That mimic thing is a common gen one glitch that will perminately take whatever move you take. So you would have lost psychic. It happens on any trainer that is known to swap pokemon mid battle, Agatha being the most well known

I honestly love Metronome in general and it just keeps getting more fun as generations progress and moves get added. I'm currently playing through Pokemon Crystal Clear (improvement hack of Crystal) casually for nostalgia/comfort/fun and a Metronome Clefable is one of my main-team squad~

Yeah, Clefable did exactly what I thought it would do. There are very few Pokemon that are the swiss army knife that it is. That being said I'd like to see Starmie get redone on the rankings as it is a swiss army knife too and a very fast one at that. Starting as Starmie you'd sacrifice the ability to recover to start as Starmie but... No having to wait fight brock with Staryu with only Tackle until level 17.

Sometimes i find my younger self in the storys about your opinion and thoughts about specific attacks or Pokémon like attacks like fury attack doesn‘t so enough damage because its a multi turn attack. Persian in R/B might net one of your fastest play-thrus on the basis that it's insane speed equates to critting almost every other turn. Plus it learns slash early, which increases it's crit chances.
