The issue with Taiwanese military purchase program right now is that no major powers other than the US is willing to sell a modern offensive system to them, due to potential political/economic backlash from China. As a result the Americans pretty much charge whatever they want. The latest example is the $2.5 billion for 30 AH-64E + ammunitions. This is more than twice what Boeing charges for the US army, so the high price tag for the Abrams really does not say much about how watered down the export version would be.

I think one thing we have to consider is that Taiwan's planned usage for their tanks is to utilize them as a counter force during a theoretical invasion attempt by China, massing up a distance from landing points and then counter attacking to try to throw the Chinese back into the sea. Against initial amphibious forces, the M60s should still be effective for that. Once a larger landing area is secured and more army forces arrive, those tanks would disperse as much as they can with the infantry, as Taiwan's terrain is not suitable for mobile warfare and they will do more good as dispersed fire support, moved forward for ambushes on tanks trying to go around the urban areas.

When only looking at Chinese and Taiwanese forces, it is theoretically possible that China could conduct this sort of long campaign and handily win, however they don't have that time because of the US. They need to be able to quickly gain air and sea superiority and land troops to secure the island, otherwise, the Americans could reinforce Taiwan and put the air and naval superiority in question. Several things you miss from the Chinese side: 1, The original ZTZ-99 has a 1200 hp engine while the ZTZ-99A has a 1500hp engine. ZTZ-99A is not a "normal upgrade" from ZTZ-99, its turret and hull got completely redesigned which is much bigger in size. 2, The ZTZ-99 and ZTZ-99A actually have soft-kill APS. There are laser receivers around the tank. When enemy tank measuring distance using laser rangefinder, it can actually calculate the relative angle of the laser signal and shoot back a beam of laser jamming up the enemy rangefinder. Official documents also mentioned that the system can set to output a higher energy laser to burn the optic sensors of the rangefinder. Without the rangefinder the fire control system is disabled.

@@76456 1+2: The Abrams Honeywell AGT1500 engine is multifuel. It can run on, but is not limited to, jet fuel, gasoline, diesel and marine diesel. So, no, it's not going to run out of fuel. If the Chinese tanks are getting fuel, there's infrastructure for Abrams to refuel from... including siphoning from other vehicles or abandoned tanks. 3: Did you honestly just say the 125-3 can penetrate 1 kilometer of armor...? I'm gonna guess you meant 1000mm of armor, which is not 1km by the way. The 125-3 can penetrate 1000mm of armor at about 2,000 meters, IF it impacts at 0 degrees to the armor point. That never happens except in test conditions; that's basically the "perfect scenario" result. The likelihood in combat scenarios is at least 3-5 degrees of angle, with every degree of angle losing roughly 70cm of penetrative power. 4: The upcoming XM-1147 AMP is capable of HEAT penetration of up to 1400mm, with upgrade options packing enough power to perform at least 1500mm of HEAT penetration coming in 2028.

The ability to predict enemy approach routes and strategically place your forces is a huge force multiplier. @@tomk3732 Ummm... what? As far as I know Taiwan already declared independence since over 70 years ago (1949). That's why we call it Taiwan in the first place, right? The Leopard 2A6 or 2A7 would be a slightly better export tank, but not that much better to make an actual difference. The Leoaprd 2 is overall very equal in most terms to the M1A2 Abrams. And in the end, both tanks will be destroyed by China's new Top-attack missile "Red Arrow HJ-12" anyway (which is a copy of the famous Javelin Top-attack missile). So the tank would need some APS that can intercept Top-attack missiles, because any tank without such APS will be completely uselless on the modern battlefield anyway. But don't worry, China is not gonna invade or attack Taiwan, it's just not worth it. Because it would be too much costly for China to attack it. Even though Taiwan is only a very small island, but as I already said, it is still one of the most powerful militaries in the world with one of the biggest army in the world, which means that China would have to sacrifice a lot of its military arsenal just to occupy this little island. And then there is of course the USA which would probably do something about it too. So no, it's just not worth it.

@@xAlexTobiasxB Taiwan is not independent nation de juro, it is independent de facto. If it was de juro there would be embassies in it from other countries - US only has "trade mission". This is why the talk of independence of Taiwan comes in and out occasionally & is used to "irritate" China. Notice almost no country recognizes Taiwan as independent. If Taiwan wants to force a war all it has to do is declare independence from mainland. China would probably try economic means first but later on war would be inevitable, even at great cost to China. Spike missile is better then Javelin. Leo 2A7 can easily destroy Abrams from Taiwan but Taiwan's Abrams has almost zero chance of taking out Leo2 A7 armor from the front unless it gets a weak spot. Leo also has far better sensors and other equipment. It is not a downgraded monkey model for export. For 12m USD per unit Taiwan could have gotten much better tank. Heck fully loaded T-90 is far and wide much better tank then what Taiwan is getting. And its only half the $. Heck you could get T90 with Israeli active defense system for 1/2 the price. But no weapon purchase is non political. If Taiwan plays the ball any invasion in the next 20 years looks very unlikely. If Taiwan does not play the ball it will be part of Chania ruled by mainland in tops 30 years against its will.
@xAlexTobiasxB3 жыл бұрын
@@tomk3732 Again, Taiwan already declared "full" Independence in 1949. Even if most other countries don't want to recognize Taiwans Independence, doesn't change the fact that Taiwan is already de facto a fully independent and self-sufficient state with its own political government system and can make its own rules and has its own police force and has its own independent jury and has its own Army to protect the island country against any outside threat. Which makes Taiwan a 100% fully indepenedent country as much as independence goes. I mean, that is why we are talking on a video about Taiwan receiving American Abrams tanks right? Because Taiwan wouldn't even get American Abrams tanks in the first palce if it wasn't independent, right? There are some Taiwanese embassies in other countries, but only in very poor and weak countries (mostly Southern America which have no big value in the world anyway). Yeah it sucks that most other nations around the world don't want to recognize Taiwan as independent state, but it still doesn't change the fact that Taiwan is de facto a fully independent state anyway. And it is highly unlikely that China would attack Taiwan. You can say it all you want, but it won't happen. Only in your fantasy maybe. So keep on dreaming. The Leopard 2A6 /A7 has only slightly better front armor, but that doesn't mean anything if a top-attack missiles hits the weak roof of the turrrt which has no armor whatsoever. Any tank that doesn't have APS is useless on the modern battlefield anyway, because top-attack missiles make armor useless.

I can imagine them getting a kill with a lucky shot but they only have a 105mm cannon. Using them to support infantry with ambush tactics seems impractical as getting them to move through the jungle would be very hard and obvious. Any kind of thermal imaging would pick up the heat of the engine and it's exhausts easier than the body heat of a few infantry men, I believe. Imo these tanks would only be useful as part of fortifications to protect against infantry, as armored scouting vehicles or in a similar role, maybe even something like an IFV but worse since they cant really transport troops.

$12 million dollar tank, destroyed by a $1 million dollar drone. Another point to note is that the Taiwanese Abrams will be entirely stationed around Taipei, which means when hostilities breaks out, they are pretty much stuck there, and are unable to maneuver to other spots on the island, due to the fact that the PLA air force would eliminate any re-deploying tank formations. So the Abrams purchase is first and foremost a political consideration. If you insist on finding a military application for such a heavy tank, then it might be used as a last stand weapon when the PLA reaches Taipei, but when that happens, it's already too late.

So they'll fair as well as the Iraqi formation during their retreat from Kuwait. Search Highway of Death. 3) China has thousands of ballistic missiles pointed at the island. as well as limitless 2-stage rocket artillery with a range of more than 300 km, that means it can reach any part of the island from the mainland. kiss all of taiwan's airports goodbye as soon as war starts. So, PLA air force will be uncontested in the air. 4) The so called intervention of America is usually brought up by taiwanese apologist as a last resort trump card. they often bring it out as if uttering the name of America somehow gives them automatic victory. The likelihood of America going to war with a nuclear power for an island they don't even have diplomatic recognitions with is very low, next to none. If the Americans are confident with their resolve to defend the island, why don't they sell Taiwan F-35s? the F-35B would be of great importance for the island, since they can takeoff and land from damaged airstrips. America only sees Taiwan as their one of many bargaining chips. They won't go to war with China for the island. Which it obviously dos not.
@danydash3163 жыл бұрын
@@obsidianstatue do you know that taking an island is more complex form of war than going on into an offensive in a desert. Taiwan had enough of weapons and hardware that it can give a massive casualty to any chinese invading force, actual military experts say that taiwan can take out atleast half of entire invading chinese force and if china is so powerful then why it has not done it by now. Does any chinese soldier knows about how it feels to be shot at? Are they experienced to take on an enemy that is fighting for survival. Just like israel was doing back in 20th century against forces that were superior to it. Forget about taking on an island, does china even knows how to use carrier strike groups in wars, does china knows how to lead formations effectively in wars? Nobody in china have the most crucial thing that is "experience". They fought their last battle in 1979 and even that was fought by sending huge massive human waves of chinese troops in Vietnam just like their other conflicts but got their butts kicked up just like the americans who had no experience in jungle gurilla warfare. Taiwanese are already at the defending side, they will be preparing defenses but an offensive is more complex. and even after you win a war with hundreds of thousands of casualties possibly the largest number of casualties after the world war, I don't think china will have enough courage to celebrate that victory. Otherwise if they think their soldiers as cannon fodders then it will be pretty embarrassing for china on the world stage where modern militaries will outperform their cannon fodder soldiers. You wanna know the chinese understanding of battlefields? India china Standoff at galwan example for it. read the chinese reports they simply deployed their soldiers who were not accumilated in high mountains of himalayas while around 200,000 indian mountain corps soldiers are well accumulated in the same terrain and they are the only ones that will ever fight any India's war in the mountains but china didn't understood that and hastily deployed their troops from tibet military district later in the same standoff when the winter came around 90% of chinese troops were doing troop rotation every day and they were in dire need of Oxygen supplies to survive in cold high altitude battlefields and that percentage of troop rotation will wear out morally and the chinese troop strength in the Himalayas. Can china use all of its force in the himalayas? No! Every ordinary soldier can die against the battle of nature instead of bullets, engines don't start, helicopters lift weight in fraction of what they can actually do, tanks break down then entire himalayas make it impossible for china to use their military. Then would you like to know what their Indian counterparts do in the mountains, out of 1.4 million indian soldiers only 200,000 are mountain warfare specialist largest mountain corps in the world, they have seen combat and wars, their officers have fought both conventional and unconventional wars. Then troop rotation, every other indian soldier gets deployed in himalayas for around 2 years with after 1 year of troop rotations and they have world class facilities to train these men and women where even every major power comes to train their own winter and mountain soldiers in India while china lacks all of it. Same thing will happen with taiwan, they train with militaries that have taken and defended islands and every power is literally building themselves up because of china also to mention taiwan is a global chip manufacturer, it will impact global economies and industries of china invades taiwan and china lacks the ability to manufacture good quality chips and therefore it is a point of interest for everyone including US specially after the global chip shortages. Then a mjor factor will be the navy, does chinese navy knows how to fight naval warfare while their adversaries even with smaller fleets at strategic locations surely knows how to fight a naval warfare, india sits right upon chinese trade and have lead carrier strike groups into wars and wiped out half of the entire pakistani navy in a single war and they are the only chinese ally who has seen naval combat, Australia have got its experience because of the US, japan is well trained for naval warfare that will be the first thing you will expect from an island nation is to have a trained and well maintained navy then forget about competition with US having 10 carrier strike groups the only thing US is Afraid if of losing soldiers in massive numbers that is what your chinese experts says about US forces.

The logical fallacy is Red is comparing M1a2Sepv2 to these Chinese tanks not M1A2T. M1A2T's armor lack DU armor array which means armor on both hull and turret is no better than IPM1 from the 1980's which at its strongest point can only protect up to 500mm and the hull having even worse protection at 350-400mm pretty much every Chinese tank in service can cut right through it.
@Aes8803 жыл бұрын
The DU insert is there to keep the armour intact after any penetrator dig into it,prevent amour degration beyond impact point,the added protection is negliable the M1A2 have more NERA element than the old IPM1
@nemisous833 жыл бұрын
@@Aes880 no it doesnt..... M1a2 has the exact same Turret dimensions as IPM1/ M1A1 so its physically impossible for M1A2 to have more NERA elements that's why they went with a DU layer replacing the rear most NERA panel to add protection against APFSDS rods and Tandem warheads. Where are you getting that M1A2 has more NERA elements? The honeycomb pattern of the M1a2's DU insert shatters APFSDS rods at their weakest point( at the end of penetration) so it basically works like K-5 but in reverse.

Army Chief of Staff Yang Hai-ming said that the M1A2T is more capable than South Korea’s K2 Black Panther, Japan’s Type 10 and China’s Type 99, their main battle tanks. For amphibious assaults, China relies on lighter tanks, such as its Type 63A, which have even less firepower than the Type 99, he said in response to a legislator’s query at the meeting. Asked by Tsai about the M1A2T’s fuel, Yang said that it can use either aviation fuel or diesel, adding that the army is considering using diesel. The US state department approved the sale of Abrams tanks, a move that has considerably angered Beijing which has been exercising for a possible amphibious assault on Taiwan which it considers a renegade province. Taiwan is expecting to thwart a possible Chinese invasion by recently ordered US-made weapons including Abrams tanks and F-16 fighter jets. I'D Rather Trust the Army Chief of Taiwan than these Red Effect who is hater of U.S and allies made Military Equipment's 100%.

The M1A2T Abrams tanks are a variant of M1A2SEPV2, which are specially customized for Taiwanese Army requirements. Equipped with a series of enhancements, the M1A2 SEP (System Enhancement Package) version has better survivability in the warzone. It could also use different types of fuels like military-grade jet fuel and diesel. ABRAM-TANKS According to reports, the tank has composite 850 mm armor and is equipped with a digital battlefield management system that ensures combat efficiency. It uses an AGT-1500 gas turbine engine that can generate 1500 horsepower, giving it the ability to rush onto the battlefield with no problem.

After witnessing the first gulf war, Afghanistan, and Russia/Ukraine, I'd wager we have no idea how strong China is, least of all China. Iraq and Russia both thought they were the shit. We thought they were the shit and tough opponents. It turned out they were both utterly shit and they themselves didn't realise that fact themselves. China? We could either roll them up in a couple of weeks, or fight to a stalemate. Military analysts, like Economists, have lost a lot of credibility.

Nice analysis, especially considering the lack of data. I am also interested in the comparison of factors other than firepower and armor protection, such as fire-control, auto-loader, counter-measures, and the digital integration into the strategic battle system, although maybe this will be subject to much speculation because of limited information. I would also presume that the mountainous terrain would be a negative factor for both Type-99(a) and M1A2(T), hence it will be interesting to see how China's new Type-15 light tanks come into play.
@stepankubicina27683 жыл бұрын
