@johnpollock79524 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. The injury is not the reason for the card. The reason for a red card is there are laws to prevent injuries from happening. The 3 laws, all deserving of a red card in this case are No arms used to control the player No hands used in the contact and a shoulder was used Contact with a player in the air without controlling the contact And yes, the result of not abiding by the laws is that Hogg's game was over and moreso, could have been even more seriously injured
@lonewolf63644 жыл бұрын
John Pollock the laws you state all relate to a "tackle or charge being made". This wasn't either. Secondly, the theory is flawed, players can develop injuries 3, 6, 12 + hours after a game, what do we do then, go red card the player involved because he developed concussion? Well, first of all, it's the correct discision with a yellow card. A referee can't, and shouldn't, give a card based on; "can the player recieving the tackle, continue". So many factors, and lot's of luck/unluck, goes into a situation, that decides if a player is too injured to continue. It's just the wrong view on the referee's role in sport. A referee looks at the tackle as a whole, and makes a discision... That being said, had this been a red card, I still don't think it would have been a massive mistake by the referees. It would have been harsh, the entirety of the tackle taken into account, but it would have been understandable, because of the effect of the tackle. This situation is "orange", and it's more about the game as a whole, and where the line for the game has been drawn, and for this reason, I think that yellow card is correct... I think the commentators gets carried away from the center of making the discisions, and gets more into the fringes of the discision. They loose perspective of the whole game, because they focus too much on the effect itself, and not the situation as a whole. I hope that they correct their focus for upcomming commentating :-)
@merillreadett4 жыл бұрын
Mike Thomassen was the chaser ever in a realistic position to challenge for the ball? It was reckless and the catcher lands on shoulder/neck/head simultaneously so how do you justify it being a yellow over a red? Player safety must be the most important factor in decision making and the catcher at no point was protected..
@MikeThomassen4 жыл бұрын
@@merillreadett - A fair point, and I agree on some areas. It was reckless - yes (partly), explanation further down. It was dangerous - yes. The catcher lands on his shoulder and bottom-neck - yes. This is now where I respectful disagrees. Could the chaser challange for the ball - yes, in my opinion. Player safety most be the most important factor in decision making - I partly agree. It IS an important factor, but not the only factor in decision making. My "justification" is thus: The chaser has full focus on the ball, as he chases it. The catcher gets the ball first, and the chaser hits the catcher from the side, with force, creating a situation where the catcher is no longer in full control of his body, and as a result of that the catcher lands on his top-shoulder and bottom-neck. I don't see the chaser's challenge for the ball as unrealistic or deliberate dangerous towards the catcher. Consequently, the late contact is the responsibility of the chaser, and a yellow card for being careless is, for me, correct. However, I'd like to end by repeating: Had it been a red card, I still don't think it would had been a massive mistake, because this situation is really on the border of yellow and red. I think it would had been slightly harsh, because of aformentioned reasons...

Nigel is one of the top refs in the game and I think the yellow is just. When you chase a ball down like that you never take your eyes off it and collisions are just part of the game. You can see it wasnt intentional. If anything when he kicked the ball another player tried to shoulder barge him off his line which could have been a yellow aswel.
@gillesguillaumin66034 жыл бұрын
And the Glasgow player jumped with his knee directly to the head of the other one. Not very fair-play.
@JoostMehrtens4 жыл бұрын
Law 10.4 reads: Play on - Fair challenge with both players in a realistic position to catch the ball. Even if the player(s) land(s) dangerously, play on Penalty only - Fair challenge with wrong timing - No pulling down Yellow card - Not a fair challenge, there is no contest and the player is pulled down landing on his back or side Red card - It’s not a fair challenge with no contest, whilst being a reckless or deliberate foul play action and the player lands in a dangerous position. A pretty experienced ref took his time to look at the event and made a decision in consultation with 3 others who have been tested on their knowledge. And based on the above there is a case to be made for yellow or just a penalty, a red well... maybe but it is surely not obvious. So why is it disgraceful? A bit more justification would be appropriate, otherwise it just looks like your emotions hinder your decision making.

Lone wolf teach us the laws please. 1) no hands 2) no control 3) reckless Any more you want for a red?
@lonewolf63644 жыл бұрын
John Pollock firstly how can you wrap a tackle you don't intend to make? In addition, 1) Eyes on the ball (mitigation and serves as a further mitigation for intent), 2) body - to - body contact (non charge contact of a shoulder, elbow, head) which was made to the hip (by the side chest) being a non dangerous body area, 3) unable to control descent due to tackling player fall (as a result of no intent the player fell over and could not assist in descent of the tackled player- futher mitigation, 4) player did not land on a dangerous body part (head or neck) resulting in a lower determination of risk and was careless not reckless. 5) Yellow card for a poorly times careless tackle, which in the eyes of the laws of the game, is a fair penalty.
@lonewolf63644 жыл бұрын
John Pollock i've read all your other comments, but unfortunately I disagree with you. As an 18 years referee, I agree with the onfield decision. Not because I am a referee, but within the confines of the laws of the game, without emotion, and merely objective reasoning, with mitigtion, it is sound on this occasion. Coincidentally, both the Referee, one of if not the worlds best mind you, the video Referee, adjudication panel and post match review committee, all agree. You're entitled to your opinion John, but I genuinely think this is a sound decision. I will also say, in all fairness, a Red card would probably have been equally as criticised as right or wrong. It was definitely a border line call either way, and both would probably be right depending on who you asked.
@johnpollock79524 жыл бұрын
@@lonewolf6364 I think you're living in the past. If you endanger a player intent isn't an excuse any more. Kearney jumped after Hogg and across through his landing zone. Ending up in him charging him with a shoulder in the air. Now say that again, charging him with a shoulder through the air, which ended up with Hogg landing on his head and upper body which is the definition in the laws, whether Nigel wants to use it or not. That's all that matters now, intent is not a mitigating factor in those circumstances. Same as a wrap round the neck might start lower on the body, intentional or not it is an immediate yellow and poasible red in the circumstances. Protect the players! It was needless and reckless and did put a player's health in danger, so much so he couldn't play on.
@lonewolf63644 жыл бұрын
John Pollock look at DP Rule 13, 16, 17. For these sections to be made out, the player must be engaged in a tackle. He was not in any way, engaged in a tackle or charge, his eyes were up the entire time. Some have argued the receiver endangered him by jumping into his path, knee to shoulder height. International referees, with decades of experience, the citing commission and the referees review board have all agreed with the decision. You can have you're opinion, but it doesn't mean you are right.. Good day sir.

Dangerous yes, malicious no, intentional no. He was watching the ball and not looking where he was going, he ran into the player without looking and caused injury. It’s an easy yellow but without malicious intent (him having the eye on the ball is evident of this) it’s not a straight red
@spl25724 жыл бұрын
If you have read down this list pretty much everyone thinks the way the ref did, the only person with a different view was the ar5ehole commentator and I don't even think the guy that downloaded it believes it was red, I think he may have just used it to tempt people to listen to the commentator.
