As a dentist, I stopped watching when you said a dental implant is one of the most painful procedures. Yes it's true that if you aren't anesthetized any dental/medical procedures can carry pain/discomfort. However a dental implant surgery on its own (as graphic as it sounds) is one of the easiest surgeries to numb the patient for, and one of the surgeries associated with the least amount of pain after.

My husband had a crown snap off for some reason, and he just had an implant in his maxilla. Time between break and completion of the procedure was only 2 months. He was inconvenienced by not being able to blow his nose, but he didn't complain much about the pain. I'm also getting an implant, but it's from a shoddy crown in my lower jaw. The original cracked tooth hurt more than the extraction I got yesterday, and more than when my crown snapped off. (Army dentists aren't very motivated to do high quality work, and we were both army.)

@@msvaj what he's saying is true! My father is a dentist (and I was initially studying to become a dentist before changing majors), I have spoken to him at length about several procedures, and I can confirm that what Basal Dabbas is saying is true. As long as you're fully anesthetized you won't feel a thing! Also if you do feel anything at all, let your dentist know and he will give you more anesthetic before proceeding. Hope this helps to make you feel better!

The most painful medical surgery I've had so far is a Liver Transplant, my entire body was so messed up afterward, I couldn't sit up because my abdomen was completely cut open, and it's honestly the worst thing I have ever experienced, it took my body 6 months to stop hurting and even now when I get a pain in my side from running I have flashbacks to being in the hospital bed. This was December 4th, 2017.

For me, it was getting a piece of my brain cut out, and then waking up to find out my brain was swelling, which is obviously dangerous too. Doctors said it was pretty rare for that to happen. It took over a week for it to go down. The surgery was resumed and it went fine. That's the worst pain I've ever been in though. Edit: If anyone's wondering, I had epilepsy seizures. I had it somewhat under control with high dosage of medication, but when I did have a seizure, it was severe. I had to be revived once. So my neurologist said the best thing to do was find the source and remove it. It was my left temporal lobe. My neurologist said it was pretty much destroyed at that point(former neurologist had done nothing for years). So it was removed, and it cured me from epilepsy. It was in August 2010 when I was 12 years old.

As a victim of dental neglect when I was a child I have had 7 root canal surgeries as an adult (with more to come). I'm pretty much used to them now and they don't hurt me at all. Except for one time when the anaesthetic wore off during an operation once. There is no pain in the world that I could compare that to. I can't even begin to describe it. It is like every sense your body is capable of was enhanced to the point of sheer agony. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to open my eyes because everything was too bright. Even the quietest of noises sounded like being front row at a death metal concert. I could literally hear the air moving around the room and it was deafening.

For me it was waking up after having my entire large intestine removed and replaced with an artificial intestine made out of my small intestine called a "j pouch". That was the most rediculous pain I've ever experienced. Not only was my body in shock, but my entire abdominal area was sliced down the middle. You don't realize how often you use your abdominal muscles until they're cut. I had to force myself to walk every single day and it was too much. For #2, you forgot to mention that most lumbar spine surgeries (like mine) are done through an abdominal incision much like a C-section. One surgeon literally holds your guts out of the way for 4 hours while another surgeon literally reaches all the way through you to work on your spine. Insane. And yes, the pain that I woke up to in the recovery room (and what awaited me in the following months) was absolutely unimaginable, from the bone aches to the spontaneous muscle spasms that felt like my abdomen was trying to tear itself open again. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have an artificial replacement disc instead of a vertebral fusion! I have almost full range-of-motion.

Yep. Mine was a 360°. My abdominal incision was about 8” up & down around my belly button, removed & replaced the discs, fused the vertebrae from the front…, once fused through the front & my guts put back, they flipped me over and cut 3 different incisions along my spine from the back to install the pedicle screws & rods. Loads of fun! & a few years later, they did it all again a few levels up….

My wife had (or was told) to have an arterial blood pressure monitor put in during her C-Section. Biggest issue is that my wife has notoriously been a VERY difficult stick (needle wise) and they literally couldn’t get the needle to go into her artery in her wrist. They called just about every person they could and tried countless machines but it just wouldn’t go in. I’ve NEVER seen my wife is so much pain ever, she was so over the pain that she told the hospital she’d rather be discharged right then and there and go to another hospital to have the baby in another day or so. This was all at John’s Hopkins in Baltimore. They ended up just putting a blood pressure cuff on her and she was just fine.

Ridiculous. I've had four brain surgeries, more dental surgeries than I can count, gallbladder removed, thrombectomy to remove a pulmonary embolism, bone marrow draw, and some other minor surgeries. Sure there was pain after each, but that's what pain meds are for. The only one that was extremely painful during was the bone marrow draw, and I've certainly had worse pain than that in my life. If you're feeling pain during a surgical procedure, then you and the anesthesiologist need to have a very looooong heart to heart. I actually asked them for more pain killers (aka, fentanyl) during the thrombectomy because I could feel them rummaging around in my chest. At first it was just odd, then it started getting painful. That was the point where I scared the surgeon and asked for more fentanyl. He assumed the twilight anesthesia had put me to sleep.

Not that it compares, I've had several crown implants done. And during each procedure, the anesthesia wasn't enough; there were certain spots in which I could still feel pain. I assumed the anesthesia couldn't be any stronger than this, so I would have to endure. Which I did. But one event later, they drilled a tooth in which a nerve seemed unaffected by the anesthesia, and the pain I felt was excruciating. That's when I told the hygienist about the pain and immediately thereafter, they gave me more anesthesia and we were able to resume the procedure with no pain. It took over two hours to get it done. The moral of the story is, Don't be an idiot like me. Whenever you feel any pain or sensitivity while a dentist operates your mouth, immediately tell them about it and get more novacain! There is no shame in that. Enduring when you don't have to is unnecessarily taxing for the body and the brain. Be smart unlike me.

Make sure you go to an anesthesiologist that is newly trained and will provide you with something to ease the event. I've had a number of these procedures. My first spinal tap was pretty bad, I was just 15 and the needle both scraped the bone and tore the surface of a disk. A surgical infection after my hysterectomy was nasty, coming on the heels of an emergency C-Section for twins. The most painful thing was a massive build up of fluid behind that C-Section wound, where a mistake was made and the fluid was simply pressed out through the surgical wound, without anesthesia.

Well pain in each individual is different honestly. What one person deems “the most painful experience in their life” can be different to someone else. There are medical and dental procedures that have high statistical rates but from what I’ve seen (also in this thread) is that pain is subjective. So imo just empathize with someone and hear them when they say they’re in pain, because we aren’t in their shoes and I can’t stand doctors who do not do this and think they know a person’s pain better than they.

I can confirm that a spinal fusion is really painful.. I‘m 26 and have already 9 vertebraes fused, from C0 (the back of the skull) until my second thoracic vertebrae. The days after the surgery were incredible painful. I was on Fentanyl, Ketamine and Methadone and still had pain when I had to stand up. Even now, 6 months later, it’s quite painful from time to time. The vertebraes lost their function, so the muscles are angry. 😅

Having fibroids removed doesn't hurt at all if you have endometriosis! I had one so big, that ultrasound techs usually ask if I've had a c-section. Nope, just that fibroid removal! The part that hurt about that recovery was the bloating, but that didn't last more than a couple of days. The army cut the required recovery time down by more than half, so unfortunately my intestines and some nerve tissue fused to my scar, which hurts when I cough, but is still more pleasant than endometriosis WITH the fibroids.

My hip replacement in July was easy peasy. Prior to it it was misdiagnosed as me needing a third back surgery from my CT Mylogram. It may need operated but is painless so duh!!! I begged the VA to look at my hip. I was on a four wheel cart to get around. The last 4 months I fell 3 times and sat on the edge of my bed 24/7. I finally gave up and went to see my back surgeon. He saw me struggling to walk in the building and without missing a beat had the nurse get an x-ray of my hip. Boy was I hot!! It was fractured and being miserable for 10 months showed signs of healing then refracturing from falls from having a fractured hip and walking/ limping bent over on that cart and losing my balance. Standing up from the toilet was so bad I pulled the sink just to the left of me outta the wall a little at a time over 10 months. Bone spurs that were jabbing at nerves and surgery 5 days later. Easiest recovery I ever had from about 14 surgeries I’ve had. EMG is already not fun but once they find the region damaged it can only be described as the pain when you accidentally touch a soldering iron but for 10min deep in your thigh. After this I had a urodynamics test where my body started to spasm and my bladder rejecting the catheritor with muscle cramps and pain. Most physically painful day of my life even more than my original injury.

I had a myomectomy- Ive had issues with fibroids for over 20 years . One of them got so large it was the size of a cantaloupe and was causing a lot of issues . I had already had a c-section as well a few laparoscopic surgeries so definitely thought it would not be a big deal. Well I was wrong - it was horrific ! At the same time I have cared for patients whove had the same surgery who didnt seem to have the same degree of pain ( Im a nurse )

The most painful thing I’ve ever experienced was breaking hairline fractures over the tiny bones at the top of my foot and messing up the tendons as well and then having to walk around a hotel, pack up my bags and sit on a 8-9 hour bus ride from Canada back to america. All while my fellow classmates didn’t believe me and thought I was faking it. Having an officer come and carry me off the bus at the border was so embarrassing. Hour by hour I had to watch my foot swell up and bruise purple. Not to mention the doctors visit when I got home where they had to cut my leggings and push my foot into position to put my split on…. And the bed sores while sleeping that made me cry all night long… 0/10 would not recommend. Needless to say, it did feel good to walk into class the next day with my broken foot and crutches and having everyone apologize for not believing me and not helping me when I needed them. Lol

Foot injuries are no joke. I fractured my ankle jumping a hurdle sideways and has the most sharp pain I've ever felt in my life. I just remember that night I wanted to die because it hurt so bad 😂 had to learn how to walk again on it 2 months later

I’ve actually had a spinal fusion surgery which was a year ago now. It shocking wasn’t that bad. I thank my surgeons and anesthesiologist for that. If it wasn’t for them i could of been in a lot worse pain then i was. The worse thing was when they made me walk i felt so weak every single step felt like a ran a marathon my next thing was this annoying after affect that’s gone now. It would feel like i was extremely dizzy to the point i could almost throw up and my vision would constantly bounce it would go away to 1-5 minutes. There’s a whole bunch of other stuff i could say about it but it would be too long.

I've had so many medical procedures in my life that I already knew that I have a very high threshold for pain but after watching this, it must be higher than I even thought it was. I've had 4 of these procedures and didn't find any of them to be excruciating as the video would suggest. I've had 2 spinal fusions (cervical and lumbar), multiple lumbar punctures (epidural steroid injections are far more painful but still not that bad), gone through childbirth and had my Gallbladder removed back in the day (1989) when they had to cut you all the way across your belly- 8 inch scar. I've also had sinus surgery which was horribly unpleasant and painful but nothing I couldn't handle. I've been hit by a car which shattered my nose (separate surgery to reset it), broke my ankle and my collarbone. By far the worst pain I've ever experienced was Pancreatitis as a result of gallstones, which is why I had my Gallbladder removed. I was in so much pain and so close to death that they had to put me in a medically induced coma for a week before they could do my Gallbladder surgery. I've never experienced anything remotely close to the pain it caused. Next day after the Gallbladder surgery I actually went to the salon and got a perm in my hair

@@darkstorm08 my body has always been different than most, as far as my tolerance for pain, as well as the way medications react in my body. If something normally makes a person sleepy, it'll keep me up for over 24 hours, same with meds that make people more alert, they will knock me out. Strange

I had to have almost all my teeth removed and replaced with implants when I was younger as an added bonus my wisdom teeth (which haven't even erupted yet also had to be removed at the same time as the rest of my teeth. I was thankfully put right out both times, once when my teeth were removed and when the titanium posts where put in a year later but the 2 weeks after both were really rough even though I was kind of snowed out on stupidly strong pain killers for the first few days. My cheeks swelled so much that I could actually see them in my peripheral without a mirror. The second time (getting the posts put in) was even worse because I knew what I was walking into and it actually somehow hurt more. It was totally worth it in the end though. Being able to just drive my face into a burger or a whole fruit and just bite off a piece still feels like a super power. Also, I have the totally awesome memory of the day I finally got my teeth installed and my dentist kneeling on top of me, wearing a full face shield holding a diamond grinder to my face and sparks flying out of my mouth, yelling over the noise "keep your tongue back or you lose it!" as he shaped and sharpened the cutting edges. I was fully awake and aware for that day (no freezing), but he was awesome, made zero mistakes and it was totally painless (If just a little intense).

Lol great story mate. It's what I need to get done, all my top teeth removed, (what's left of them) and have 4 titanium posts put in for the implants.. have you had yours for awhile? Just wondering how long they last?
@zachcrawford5
@zachcrawford5 2 жыл бұрын
@@xxxneoxxx I've had mine for 18 years now. They are as solid as ever and have even held their original cutting edge. He (my dentist at the time) said they should last as long as I do. I will say even though mine look like individual teeth, they are actually one solid piece for the top and one solid piece for the bottom and each span like four titanium posts. Having multiple point of attachment like that probably give them more stability and structural strength than just one point of attachment like when people get individual teeth done. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me and I'll try to answer them the best I can:)

@@zachcrawford5 thanks mate really appreciate it, here in Australia it ain't gonna be a cheap trip to the dentist, I think I'm looking at over 10grand closer to 15g, so I wanna make sure they are gonna last till I die lol. Might be cheaper to take a trip to Thailand and get it done there and have a holiday at the same time but I've heard some horror stories getting any sort of surgery done there. Thanks for the reply mate.

@@xxxneoxxx I was born with a rare genetic condition and had it done when I was under 18, so I was really lucky and I (or my parents) didn't have to pay anything. I don't want to knock on Thailand, as like everywhere, I'm sure there are good, bad and seedy dentists but I get the feeling that if you get the work you need done at home (Australia) and something should go wrong, you have a much better chance of making them liable to make things right again, whereas in Thailand, it will be more like "tough luck, your on your own". Also, recovering will probably go more smoothly in your own home where you are more comfortable and familiar with everything and are close to friends and family that can give you a hand if you need it.

I know this is just a video but let me tell you something I avoided dental work because I was so scared to go to the dentist and ended up losing a lot of my teeth in the back. I also lost one in the front of my mouth completely and I had a dental implant put in. Let me say this now, it's not unbearable pain. Once the lidocaine wore off I was at the CVS getting my ibuprofen 800 fiilled and I will say there was some discomfort pretty bad but only because I had no medicine in my system. Which of course there's swelling in the bone then there's going to be discomfort. My doctor actually offered to write me out pain medicine but I couldn't take it so he at least wrote me out some ibuprofen 800s and I remember being in the line at CVS starting to panic because the lidocaine was wearing off and it was starting to hurt pretty bad. I think the sales lady could tell I was in pain and hurry up and gave me my medicine and I popped one ibuprofen 800 right then and there in the parking lot. Within 15 to 20 minutes all my pain was gone. Not one ache or pain. Don't be fooled by what people tell you is the lesson I'm trying to tell you. People will scare you until you that it hurts horribly bad but it's not like you think. It was completely bearable after I took the ibuprofen 800. I believe I took one or two more after that and that was it.

How did you manage to swallow that ibuprofen at the store? While painless, I had multiple surgeries with implants, and for the first day after each I had to crush up a vicodin into pudding to take it cuz of swelling/numbness. couldn;t actually eat or swallow anything hard or large, tried, and the pills just fell out of my mouth with the water :)

Well pain in each individual is different honestly. What one person deems “the most painting experience in their life” can be different to someone else.

@@HicSvntDracones The dentist gave me some kind of steroid pill while I was there and said it would help me swelling. But other than that I didn't have much swelling when they put the implant in. plus my pharmacy was right near my dentist office. I started feeling the pain while I was standing in line when I started getting worried because it wasn't like loving pain but it felt like the bone was literally swelling or something like that. But as soon as I was able to get that first Ibuprofen film but then I would say 12 to 15 minutes the pain was gone. I was really surprised that it actually worked as well as it did.
