This video is inspired by ‪@heathergateswilsonart3232‬
She has a lot of reels on Facebook and some KZbin videos. I really like the way she graduates the paint to give faded and shaded effects.
I used gel plate, brayers, paintbrushes, water, paper, hot glue gun stencil, cardboard collagraph.
I also used a limited palette. I used black, white, yellow ochre, burnt sienna and ultramarine blue acrylic paints.
This is a 1 pull print with a few shapes added by hand after.
I hope you enjoy.

I’m definitely going to do more with this shading technique. I think it looks more abstract, less flat.

Hi Kathy, it’s lovely to hear from you, I’ll always remember your gift for 10 super techniques which was a turning point for my channel. I’m loving having the option of having the archival paper for prints I think will be good.

Great to see you experiment, I think the beauty of the gel plate is the not quite knowing what the end result will be.😀❤️

Thanks kari, especially when you’ve stained the plate yellow with alcohol inks, so you can’t peek underneath anymore 😖😂❤️

Hi Dorothy, I love your name…it was my nanas name and is my daughter’s middle name. Thank you, I do love my very expensive posh paper. I’ve nearly used 1/5 of it!!! But it’s worth it for layered gel plate prints.

Fran, I’m sorry I haven’t replied yet but I knew you wouldn’t mind. I’m going through all my papers and mass making stuff. All because I bought a bit of proper posh paper. It’s helped me establish a bit of a line between the practice work and the work for exhibitions. It’s been very blurred until now.

Have you ever watched the art whisperer, he does full pictures on the gel plate. I learned a lot from him. But I do want to be the only one 😂 I was watching you earlier, I liked the floral fabric you made (the one you showed with red flowers). 🌺 🥰

Hi Kirsten, what an awesome experiment! I love the way you tease out new potential of the gel plate, touching it ever so softly, as if you were soothing a baby. No wonder, it reveales such an interesting result full of texture and subtle colour. Love to watch your experimental journey 🤩, XO Britta

Me too, I think paper quality and paint type are important factors when pulling a dried print. Mine either don’t pick up enough of the dried under image or the paper tears away and sticks to the gel plate. I have tried between 2 and 10 minutes but still with minimal results. Any advice would be appreciated. Love your experimental attitude.👍

Hi Kirsten! The gradtions of soft colours is lovely. Your very first black mark that you partially pulled off at the beginning is perhaps my favourite bit. A bit of story: last year was my beginner's foray into paints. (I've primarily been a fibre artist all my life) and to learn colour theory and find "my palette" I would set myself challenges of using only two or three colours for a few weeks. My fave combo was ultramarine and burnt sienna; I adore the earthy greyed out pinks and purples they make. Thanks for reminding me of that. I hope you're well! I'm chugging along just fine.
