Very interesting technique and beautifully executed. However, ..I wonder how long the Foil will stay bonded to the canvas over time, especially at the creases. Metal and canvas don't bond that well together naturally. Have you tried this technique long-term yet ? Maybe it would bond to a board much better if an appropriate bonding agent was used.

The deep turquoise that you are using, is that acrylic ink? Surprisingly I get confused sometimes trying to figure out when you are using high-flow acrylic paint, acrylic ink, or traditional acrylic ink. Please advise love that you label your acrylic mediums just wish you identified the type of paints as well as their color name. Maybe list them in the description?
@lydiabroderick867 Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes the deep turquoise is an acrylic ink.☺

So inspirational watching you work and the result is just wonderful. What is the longevity of a foil based painting, I appreciate the paint and gesso help protect it and were those acrylic paints? Does it take acrylic longer to dry out on aluminium? Hope you don't mind my questions, thank you. So look forward to seeing more of your work.
@lydiabroderick8679 ай бұрын
As long as the painting is sealed, it lasts. I used acrylics to start and finished with oil paint after they had completely dried.acrylics the acrylics took a little longer to dry, but not much. 😊

I love it! But is there any risk of the foil to rip and damage the painting through handling ?
@lydiabroderick867 Жыл бұрын
I haven't had that problem. As long as the foil has been secured well to the canvas, I think it will be fine. However, just like anything delicate, it's probably wise to handle with care.😊

How long does the aluminum foil stay on the canvas? Thank you
@Lazarusart Жыл бұрын
Yes, that was my question. I'm guessing not long especially if exposed to any moisture. This is purely experimental which is great, however only time will tell if it holds. My guess is it won't hold long-term, so any buyer would have to be informed of that.

How do you keep the foil from tearing up from the sides and back of canvas?
@lydiabroderick867 Жыл бұрын
I attach it to the sides with matte medium, but cut it so it doesn't wrap around to the back. I use a lot of matte medium on the entire canvas and allow it to dry completely. Mod Podge also works really well. Hope that helps.

So are you leaving the aluminum on the canvas? Want it come off? Thk u. Subscribed
@lydiabroderick867 Жыл бұрын
The aluminum stays on the canvas. The liquid matte medium acts as a glue. You could also use a matte gel medium or even mod podge to glue it down. It won't come off if you allow it to dry completely and make sure there are no air pockets.☺

It’s really beautiful and I have tried it the next day. Firstly on a smooth white coated piece of board using semi gloss gel medium by Golden and a fairly heavy foil. It just didn’t want to properly stick even after leaving it overnight. It was a cold night so maybe played a part. So today I tried same on stretched canvas. Some is sticking but lots hasn’t, despite a generous coat. Would it be because it’s a more expensive and thicker foil? TIA.
@lydiabroderick867 Жыл бұрын
Probably. I use the cheapest thinnest foil to do it. I also used a liquid matte medium by liquitex. Heavier foil won't work as well. I found that out the hard way.
