RE-REACT kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZXPh2qJjbqWd6ssi=k390KtON1zsXFwyg As for the more recent negative comments regarding this reaction and my lack of familiarity with these legends, I was NOT even born yet when this single was released. For those who left kind messages, educated, and encouraged me to do my homework, I hope you have seen how far I've expanded my music genres since this video. Feel free to comment if you want me to re-react to this. BE KIND & stay blessed!

Well, of course you weren't around then, which is why it's important to do these reactions for future generations. And thank you for them! Btw, just found a documentary on Netflix about the making of this historic session, "The Greatest Night of Pop". I was around back then, and I didn't know all the artists featured, either, so that was cool. You do reactions your way, someone else will do them theirs. Music - and reacting to it - is at its heart, subjective. 🎶♥

So funny to see how youngsters only regonize MJ as a legend, but when you would ask any 45+ year old they would say that each of these artists are as legendary as MJ is. Bob Dylan he was almost a god, Bruce Springsteen "the boss" the name says it all, Tina Turner who does not know her, Billy Joel come on.. the Pianoman. Cindy Lauper one of the first female rebel rock stars. A huge inspiration for Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or Ariana Grande, Kenny Rogers or Willy Nelson known as the biggest you can find in the country scene, Paul Simon also a legend, and the list goes on.

But when you are a country fan, you have a different opinion, artists like kenny rogers or willy nelson are gods too you. And don't underestimated what Bob Dylan is too the world. He is the king of the protest songs, and don't speak about Tina Turner, the Boss Bruce springsteen or an icon like Cyndy Lauper. For many fans of those days, they were the legends.

It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie (with arrangements by Michael Omartian) and produced by Quincy Jones for the album We Are the World. "We Are the World" opens with Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner and Billy Joel singing the first verse. Michael Jackson and Diana Ross follow, completing the first chorus together. Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson and Al Jarreau sing the second verse, before Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry and Daryl Hall go through the second chorus. Co-writer Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper and Kim Carnes follow with the song's bridge. "We Are the World" concludes with Bob Dylan and Ray Charles singing a full chorus, Wonder and Springsteen duet-ting, and ad libs from Charles and Ingram

Thank you for rightfully mentioning Lionel Richie and Michael Omartian. There's too many MJ nuts out there who insist on giving him sole credit for everything. It should also be noted that after hearing what Bob Geldoff was doing in the UK, it was Harry Belafonte (@9:17) who got the ball rolling on the US side, contacting Quincy Jones. Quincy then reached out to Kenny Rogers for use of his studio in Hollywood, which was located not far from where the Grammy's were held. That few seconds of Harry always get me. He's one of the elder statesmen, a musical legend in his own right who initiated this project, and he's perfectly content to stand in the back row and sing his heart out.

This video came out when I was in 8th grade and it was a huge deal. Monster artists coming together for a humanitarian cause. I wish we still saw this kind of thing today. To understand... in the mid 80s, Africa was experiencing severe drought and famine. A group of British rockers lead by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure released a record (Do They Know its Christmas) with all proceeds going to famine relief in Africa. Then USA rockers lead by Harry Belafonte, Ken Kragen and Quincey Jones, recorded the video here with the same goal. The last effort was LIVE AID. This is a weekend concert televised from three continents. The Live Aid video of Queen you watched is from that concert. Phil Collins flew on the SST Concord to both continents and performed in USA and the UK in the same concert. It was televised on MTV. Incredible concert. The finale song in the UK included Bob Geldof, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and most of the huge array of rockers that performed throughout the weekend event. The videos of the Uk Christmas record and that finale are on You Tube. They raised over $200 million and it was sent to Africa. Unfortunately it was intercepted by a dictator and terrorist group who used it for weapons against its own citizens. Still... no generation before or after in music ever took on such a huge task which could have made a difference. Next to this, in 1986, you have Comic Relief USA by Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal. They raised OVER $50 million for the homeless in the USA. I am very proud to be part of the generation that gave so much to humankind. ✌🏻

You knew a few of these artists, but allow me put things into a bit more perspective for you: _every single one of these artists has sold AT LEAST 1 million albums, either as a solo artist or as part of a group._ If you add up the albums sold by all the artists who sang the individual verses, their total is over *2.1 BILLION ALBUMS SOLD.* So please, do a deep dive on the following artists, which have been listed in the order that they appear in the video. Where they are part of a group, I've made sure to include the group's name in parentheses. Lionel Richie - solo artist (and also as a member of The Commodores) - 4 Grammy awards Stevie Wonder - 25 Grammy award Paul Simon - solo artist (and also as a member of Simon & Garfunkel) - 16 Grammy awards Kenny Rogers - solo artist (and also as a member of Kenny Rogers & the First Edition) - 3 Grammy awards James Ingram - 2 Grammy awards Tina Turner - solo artist (and also a member of Ike & Tina Turner) - 8 Grammy awards Billy Joel - 6 Grammy awards Michael Jackson - solo artist (and also a member of the Jackson Five - but you already are solid with his info) - 13 Grammy awards Diana Ross - solo artist (and also a member of The Supremes) Dionne Warwick - solo artist (and the Aunt of Whitney Houston, which is why she sounded a lot like her) - 6 Grammy awards Willie Nelson - 15 Grammy awards Al Jarreau - 7 Grammy awards Bruce Springsteen - 20 Grammy awards Kenny Loggins - this guy had almost as many #1 hits during the 1980s as Michael Jackson did! - 2 Grammy awards Steve Perry - solo artist (and also a member of Journey) Daryl Hall - solo artist (and also a member of Daryl Hall & John Oates) Huey Lewis - member of Huey Lewis & the News - 1 Grammy award Cyndi Lauper - 2 Grammy awards Kim Carnes - 2 Grammy awards Bob Dylan - 10 Grammy awards Ray Charles - 18 Grammy awards This is a total of 160 GRAMMY AWARDS between them all... _and it does not include any Grammy awards won by people who were only singing in the choir (such as Harry Belafonte, who won 5 Grammys, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Grammy to bring is overall total to 6)._ If you don't recognize some of these artists' songs when you listen, I guarantee that your favorite artists have either sampled their work or have found inspiration from their recordings.

I've watched many reactions to this song - but yours is my very favorite. Your facial expressions are solid GOLD. The first one you asked about is soundtrack KING of the 80's - Kenny Loggins (Footloose, Danger Zone, Nobody's Fool, This is It, Forever, Meet Me Halfway). He was followed by the greatest voice in rock - Steve Perry from Journey (Don't Stop Believing, Faithfully, Lights, Open Arms, Separate Ways). The next was Daryll Hall from Hall and Oates (Private Eyes, You Make my Dreams Come True, Out of Touch, Rich Girl). After Daryll was Huey Lewis from Huey Lewis and the News (Power of Love - must watch video from Back to the Future, Heart of Rock and Roll, If This is It, Walking on a Thin Line, I Want a New Drug). ALL are amazing songs and artists to start your next journey. Have fun going down the rabbit hole. See you on the other side. Cheers from Canada!

“Check your egos at the door” read the sign on the front door of A&M Studios in Los Angeles on the night of January 28th, 1985. Producer Quincy Jones had placed it there because dozens of the nation’s biggest singers were walking through that door, and he had exactly one night to cut a record that would save lives by raising money to help alleviate a famine in Ethiopia. --- Rolling Stone

AB my friend.... Looks like you're going to have to go back to the 80s and 90s and do some reactions to these amazing talented singers in this song. Colored hair was Cyndi Lauper... Love her! The guy with the really raspy voice that's Bruce Springsteen. The guy you said that looked like Sean Connery was Kenny Rogers. It goes on and on. There's just so many... so many talented people here I hope you do some reactions to their popular songs from back in the day. Doesn't matter who you react to though I'm here for it...love your reactions!

@ABtheKreator ...Just to clarify what another commenter said about who organized this event that resulted in the song and album for USA for Africa. Michael Jackson neither organized nor started this. MJ is well known for organizing other benefit projects, and Michael's star power certainly helped in the promotion of this song, but it was singer and humanitarian Harry Belafonte who was instrumental in getting the USA for Africa project started. Belafonte was so moved by footage he saw of the suffering in Africa due to the famine that he contacted a music and business manager he knew, Ken Kragen, about getting a lot of stars to do a benefit concert. Instead of a concert, the manager suggested a record with a lot of mega stars donating their time. Belafonte and Kragen got Quincy involved, who, as you may know, had a lot of contacts, including Lionel and MJ (Quincy produced works like "Thriller" and many others). Quincy asked Lionel Richie and MJ to co-write the song. And Quincy got the various artists to participate in recording the song when most of them would be in town for the American Music awards show, and they skipped the after-show parties and stayed up till dawn in-studio recording their parts for the song "We Are The World." Quincy set up the parts, selected the soloists and their order, reminded the artists that egos were to be left at the door, guided the takes, led the chorus, and handled post-production for the resulting song as well as the album that was put together (both Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian are on the credits for the arrangements and production). There was a universe of stars taking part in this song... diverse in style, but all shining, stellar examples... from legends like Paul Simon (singer/songwriter of Simon and Garfunkel... "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Sounds Of Silence" and subsequent solo hits) to Bob Dylan (singer/songwriter, lyricist, musician, activist, poet, and someone who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature because of his lyrics, and with hundreds of songs he wrote and performed, including the famous "Blowin' In The Wind" and "Like A Rolling Stone"), to singers like Dionne Warwick ("Walk On By" was one of her hits; she was also a Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization, and also happened to be the aunt of Whitney Houston), John Ingram ("Baby, Come To Me" with Patti Austin, "Baby, Come to Me," "I Don't Have the Heart", and "Somewhere Out There"), and firecracker Cyndi Lauper ("True Colors," "Time After Time," and "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"). All taking part donated their time. Equipment, supplies, and even the studio time and post-production costs were donated. The song and album were wildly successful with heavy and well-received promotion assisted across the country and the world by radio stations. Monies raised from the project did reach the people who were suffering... buying food, other supplies, and assuring clean supplies of water. Some monies from this project and others, however, were stolen, diverted by unscrupulous forces wielding power in the parts of Africa, and in some cases diverted to pay for bribes and weapons used against their own people. Still, we can't give up on trying to help others who are suffering, despite the evil acts that some orchestrate and carry out because they've no scruples in achieving their goals of power and wealth. "We Are The World" is more than a classic song featuring classic top artists. It is a reminder that we are all a part of humanity, and we need to help each other instead of thinking only of ourselves.

The one you thought was Sean Connery was Kenny Rogers (country music superstar) the one making the stank face with the fire voice you were mimicking is Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen. The man after him you asked who he was is Kenny Loggins. The woman with the crazy hair I'd Cindy Lauper. The woman singing the first chorus with MJ is Diana Ross of the Supremes. Hard to believe so many ppl don't know these superstars. But every reaction I see to this someone has to post the artists. It's a shame but its a good reason for you to look further into some of these artists. They were true artists. No fake stuff.
