i honestly don't care too much that they reuse assets, even animations, i hope they use the most effective animations, like a lot of people just want new animations, but when you want to many new animations for something like fighting, you end up getting an assassin that takes forever to kill his target because of very long extended flashy moves which is both stupid and not realistic at all,. why people insist on new animations and put this above everything is beyond me, now with that said, i do enjoy some quality worked animations, i just don't want them spending all their time on something that is just flashy and takes forever to kill your target because the animation is different and takes forever to take down his target. i mean they do this in every new assassins creed, they waste time making animations that are pretty much pointless but flashy, i say stop, make it practical and simple, but fluid enough that it makes sense, this isn't kungfu where they move their arms aimlessly for show and then attack you, that shit is stupid flashy nonsense. mic drop.

The trailer editing and Ubisoft not really showing parkour makes me think that this is pretty much exactly like Valhalla. But a stealh based mission design could make Valhalla's system work. Appreciate someone analysing reused assets without immediately shafting the game for doing so, as it isn't always a bad thing and it's common (and healthy) in small doses for development. Imagine the surface-level thinkers horror when they find out sequels sometimes share a lot of code too! I'll say this though: Hope to see more proper climbing, we saw a couple fancy moves but haven't actually seen Basim climb a building properly. If it's anything like the Ezio or Kenway games I'll be pretty happy but it won't ruin it for me if it isn't, because it can't be worse than Valhalla's if they've stated plainly that they're putting more effort into the parkour this time.
@TheFrostedfirefly
@TheFrostedfirefly Жыл бұрын
Yeah for real. It's an incredibly common practise for all game devs to reuse both assets and animations where it makes sense. I think the only time it becomes a "problem" is when there's a clear jump in gaming as a generation and the stuff being reused is clearly outdated and hasn't been polished to blend in.

I mean Origins still had great cutscenes so I don't really know why they couldn't do cutscenes. Especially for a game like this that is smaller scale. I think they moved away from cutscenes in Odyssey and Valhala, because of the dialogue choice system and the fact that you can choose between characters. But now that we have a single protagonist, I hope there will be a fair amount of cutscenes. Doesn't have to be for every mission, especially side missions, but defintely the important ones.

hi there. i just wanted to say that im really thankful that in this world exist people like you who have the resources, the capability and the will to script and then do this so meticulous and interesting videos about specifically this franchise, for it is special to me. it is a delicate topic the reason why. This is probably the first franchise whose story really wrapped me up. i was really young when i played this games, so there were a lot of detailes, aspects and, in general, interesting things to discover and apreciate that i simply not pay attention to since my thirst to continue advancing on the story i barely grasped was uncontrollable... but i really do not regret discovering these beatiful games at that age. i was old enough to grasp the main aspects of the story and young and impressionable enough for this series to take a really important place in my heart. i was so inspired by the creed that i started climbing trees, walls, and jumping from all kind of contructions. that is not something i take pride in though. you see, up to this date i have problems on my knees because of carrying out those activites, but well, nothing is perfect, right? it was also thanks to these videogames in particular that i started to look at videogames in general not simply as something to have fun with by enjoying its mechanics but also by empathizising with the desires and objetives of the protagonists and by immersing in the fictional world and story which they proposed. not everything these games made me feel and experience is good though. no, im not saying this only because of the knees misfortune. even at my age, assassins creed 3 ending left me with a kind of depressing feeling... but not those that are "good". not that depressing feeling you experiment when a brilliantly scripted story destroys you by the incredible and sad way the development of the conflict occured... and after ac3 i started feeling that something was wrong with the new assassins creed i was playing. at that moment i didnt really think about the cause of that feeling, but it really made me feel sad. something was different. even now i still havent indagated much into my feelings regarding this topic and a replay of all the main entries of the saga is required to be done for that feeling exploration, but taking into account what i think i know now, i attribute the cause to the terrible way the present reality of those games developed. up to assassins creed 3 i was really interested in the destiny of desmond. i really liked him. damn, i really loved shaun too. i had forgotten of him. all those moments is which he did a little joke on some entries of the database really made me love him... but going back to desmond, although the concept of the ending of his story is not bad at all, the way they executed it definitely is in all means, and i understand a little bit more why things happend the way they happend thanks to your video in which you talk about when assassins creed got bad. the result of all of this, the really sad thing that this series caused in me, is a deep feeling of letdown, impotence and even sadness. letdown because they messed up what could have been an incredible, memorable and deeply emotional ending for greed. for money. impotence because its a widely spoken topic and still we can do nothing about it and because there are great creative ideas circulating through some members of ubisoft's team heads, but that just cant be developed for they are not provided with the time they need to think about them and the money that will make selling another soulless assassins creed must be earned. sadness because will probably never be different. abstergo (ubisoft) is really suffering some important crisis. related to money, of course... and to the personal. Anyways, the present, sometimes seen as prescindible and not really important, i think it contributed a lot more of what we think about to the identity and, overall, quility of the story of the good old games. its not like i hate all the games that came after desmond protagonism. i love unity. somehow i was able to simpthyze with arno. i love bayek and origin itself, even if is the game that, regarding its mechanics, stablished a point of no return in what assassin's creed gamplay respects. its just that this little me who really connected with desmond and his friends and relatives (plus with the assassins he encarnated, being the best for me either altair or ratonhakèto:n or something like that) will never see what he wanted the most to see regarding videogames: a proper ending to the tale of desmond, juno, minerva, etc. its true that im writing this in a moment of the night in which i may be more sensible than usual, but this feel of sadness is the first thing that, for the last 6 or 7 years, remember first when i think of assassins creed and what it could have been. this started as a comment which had the intention to thank for your work and ended up being whatever this is. i am sorry. its just that i dont really have no one to talk about with this, and finding people who love the saga just as much as you is beatiful. anyways, i want to let you know that if you ever feel like making a more phylosphical video about the series expressing, without filters, your most true and sincere opinion about the franchise, know that im totally down for it. and if you read up to here... i dont even know what to say. the word "thank you" falls short considering how much I appreciate you taking the time to read this far. i will continue going through the night. hope you are doing fine, friend

I wasn’t aware this was meant to be a DLC. That sucks. I was excited for Mirage, this has made me slightly less excited. When I heard online that it was returning to AC roots I got hyped, especially with the Middle Eastern setting. I note you picked up on the way the door opened too, I thought that was so fucking ugly and unrealistic, surprised it mate a trailer like this. It just feels so unpolished or something idk, especially when comparing to the other big reveal last night; Spider-Man 2. Everything in that game loons crisp, this kinda looks like it’s from 2017 lol

I don't mind reusing animation, I just hope that it will not feel sluggish or heavy and slow like in Valhalla. Also, I miss playing black box missions so much, so seeing the trailer gave me hope, but I don't want to be disappointed so I have to keep my expectations low. Kinda wish they go full cinematic motion cap again tho like before odyssey. Watching cutscenes in ac back then felt like watching a movie and I miss that too.

I think one of the biggest things that dictates the assassins creed feeling is the high/low profile. Walking around automatically changes your approach in gameplay compared to full on sprinting at the push of a stick. And that was part of something not seen in this trailer, social stealth. Will Basim be able to blend in crowds? Will running have any effect on your social status?
@MrAmorim

I think it looks interesting but, as you said, we need to see more unedited gameplay and see mechanics and features happening without this highly edited and stylized trailer. The city density and the options for traversal, so far, look pretty interesting, a lot better than Origins, for example, but if they're also not adding back features we had in older games, if we will have more freedom of movement, how deep infiltrations will be. And i really hope taht interiors have a bigger complexity, or at least more paths as options for the player to go through. This trailer has some hints that it could be going in the right direction but i still need more to solidify a tought on it. As for the DLC part, i think the director of the game has come out to say that Mirage did start, conceptually, as a dlc, but that it only lasted for a couple of weeks, and then it fully transitioned to a full game. So, i don't think we should treat some of its limitations due to it being "firstly planned as DLC". But i would genuinely trade mo-cap cutscenes for gameplay mechanics that made this feel more like a more traditional AC game. And when i say that, i also don't mean "bring back the jankiness", i want them to take good ideas from older games and polish them for a new one. Now, one thing you mentioned in the video i kinda wanted to act as devil's advocate here, even if i am pretty lukewarm to the trailer as a whole and not much impressed. By 7:10 you mentioned the guy holding the sword clipping, and i definetely agree it is a shame to see it clipping on the shoulder, but i feel like the reason the hand is "above" the sword is ebcause he is holding the sword almost as someone could hold a bat in their back, like a lever, just resting their hand on top of it and preventing it from falling that way. Similar to this picture: image.freepik.com/free-photo/back-view-man-holding-baseball-bat_23-2148347905.jpg . But yeah, just a small detail anyway and i wish AC Mirage was on new gen only and maybe the clipping would have been reduced.... i say that but Zelda Tears of the Kingdom does a better job and runs on the Switch, so there is that. I still think it is a bit of a shame this is a crossgen game, i thought about what they could have done in regards to environment interactivity if they had more pwoer to work with. After this one i think the only AC game that *might* interest me is Hexe, and that one could take up until 2026 for us to see anything on it. Cool video! i like your observations and i have a similar reaction, i am still waiting for more before i can fully judge it. Has potential but i'm not keeping my hopes up for it. Have a good one \o/

Im glad many see this game as revival of the franchise, it might look a little similar to Valhalla but it does seem to resamble the older games a lot, it seems to fix the gameplay problem, but what doesn’t let me be hyped about this game is the fact that we played as Basim, the same guy from Valhalla…the lore was just as broken as the gameplay, it doesn’t feel like a genuine revival of the franchise if they still tie it up to the last two games, I’ll just wait until it’s available and see if the fans like it or not.

You want to know something I like a-lot? In Valhalla, most "Stealth" ended with a fight, Eivor was a warrior more than a sneaker. But Basim, a-lot of options for him can result in him running away or getting the drop on his foe. That's something worth noting if you ask me, This game is less "Go in and swing your blade like a madman!" and more "strike from the shadows, get your target, retreat when finished".

I think for the chain assassination in the trailer, he first lands on a chain/rope that's slightly above the nearest guard and then jumps to the farthest to initiate the chain assassination. Cause, the trajectory path shown during the next cut (1st assassination) is way different than what it would have been if he jumped his best from the ledge to assassinate the farthest one, but looks similar if he jumped from the chain/rope I mentioned.

I sincerely hope if we’re being limited by weapons, that we will still have the 5 outfit piece options so we can customise Basim’s looks. Please don’t take away the great parts of the RPG experience to cater to the older style of gameplay. Take the best of both worlds. While this is obviously a speculative video, I feel like my takes are relatively sensible. This isn’t a cinematic trailer, it is in-engine, so everything Basim does will be playable in the game. We see that the free running animations carry the weight of the last three games with sped up animations. That doesn’t mean it won’t also have controlled descent and ejects but what they have shown us so far explicitly iterates on the last game. The crouch, ledge assassinate, running assassinate, and standing/forward assassinate are all from Valhalla, so stealth will also iterate on Valhalla. I think that it looks like they will work on the AI and stealth level layout, and so the systems of Valhalla could totally evolve to work well there, but it will almost certainly be an evolution of Valhalla’s systems. As I say in the video, we don’t know how the game will play. But Ubisoft crafted a trailer that almost exclusively shows us things we could already do in the last three games. While we don’t know what else they are hiding, I wouldn’t call it reaching of the highest order per say to identify that we are looking at iterations of Valhalla’s mechanics. What really remains to be seen is whether or not those iterations change the game in big and meaningful ways, and I am still looking forward to seeing more.

So, I'm not sure if this is true however I believe it was leo k that had a theory on the Assassin focus ability. (Multiple assassination) and the potential reason why it looks like that. He said that it could be the animus glitching out and not being able to captivate or record basim speed. Which makes it look like he is fading in and out of assassinations. I sorta of like that idea of having basim being super agile that it causes the animus glitch out. However I don't think the story will continue after valhalla and it's more like a flashback to his previous life. I do like the idea though and it would make sense if that was the case. Or it could be they add it as super natural power as basim becomes more in contact with loki. Either way, it needs a explanation instead of just existing.

Maybe it's just me trying to be positive, but in 8:29, there is a chain right above the guy with the big sword. Maybe Basim swings off of that & that's how he gets to the furthest guard away first. Also, there were rumors a couple of months ago that suggested that the Assassin Focus ability is how the double assassinations come back. Hopefully that's true.

Unfortunately I just didn't have time to make one, but I also felt it would be a bit redundant because in all honesty, the new footage mostly just confirmed what we saw in this trailer. Free running will most likely be single button still given their reluctance to show us any descent or eject options. What does concern me is the jog and sprint, which I hated in Valhalla. Having default be jog and toggle to sprint meant the player was constantly falling out of sprint and having to re-engage. I hope that if it remains a jog to sprint system that it becomes hold, not toggle. It does seem like improved free running was mostly based around world design for them, not changing the mechanics, which will probably still appease most people. Stealth is definitely better, with clear vision cones and what appears to be totally revamped AI. Systemic social stealth is great to have back, and I hope it has meaningful uses in-game. The tools look simple but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Do I love the teleport skill? No, but it doesn't bother me like it does everyone else. However, I hope they don't build around it too much. Combat hasn't been seen much, but it looks similar to Valhalla with the same parry animation. I hope it feels a lot less sluggish than it did in that game. Cinematics clearly take a page out of Valhalla's book with the same animations and facial rigs. This is not surprising, but it does look a lot uglier than the system they had for Odyssey in my opinion, so I am a bit disappointed there. All in all this looks like Valhalla with simplified yet improved mechanics. The character will play mostly the same, but the world around the player will have vastly improved opportunities for free running and stealth. I think that if they stick the landing, this could be my favorite stealth system in the series since I don't love the jank of Unity and Syndicate and I'd hardly call any of the PS3 games stealth games. I think the free running having set paths but not much complexity will be fine for a vast majority of people. Combat I am iffy about since we have seen so little, but it sounds like they want to encourage people to avoid it anyway. Very excited to explore Baghdad.
