Hi Ken, I would like to say that I heard mention of possibly eliminating the need to work the traits workbook. I believe both workbooks are very important to ACA recovery work. I have received immense help from the content of that particular book. I am currently working on the exercise in LPG to integrate and reparent myself with each trait through journaling. It is invaluable to have the brown workbook as a reference. I am happy to have the ability to share my thoughts ❤

I am currently working on the loving parent guidebook with another member and this talk is extremely helpful to me in understanding the work that i am doing (about feelings,, thoughts etc.) and the use of other modalities (internal family systems, EBT, cognitive ) in creating this book.. It is good to know that there are other videos that further break this down - thank you.

Yes. Thank you for your great talk and explanations. When did ACA bring this book on board? I've been in the "rooms" for decades, just not alot of ACA. And did some DBT years ago. I didn't find it super helpful that I can remember and I didn't stick with it. Where do you do your group work? I'm in the Seattle Washington area "ish"

The LPG has been around now for over a year, and is still in the review process. Click here for more info on that: adultchildren.org/literature/contact-lpg-subcommittee/ DBT works, with ongoing practive, to help reduce emotional reactivitity. This allows better ability to manage what comes up in deep therapy and recovery. I practice in Los Angeles, CA.

@@TheIntimacyGram Thank you for your reply and I will check out the link you sent. I wish you were closer. Do you know of any group work here in the seattle-ish area..(outside Seattle.) That does ifs, DBT, etc. Its been years since I did dbt, around 2005 I believe. I feel like I've always had very strong reactions to certain particular triggers and I tend to be sensitive. Tough road.

How does this book work in the scheme of the workbooks? Is it done before the steps? After?

It really depends on where you are in your recovery. This might be something to discuss with those who know you, such as a sponsor, fellow traveler, or therapist. The LPG is fairly deep therapy, and the steps prime you for this. Working Steps 1-3 help build spiritual principles, Honesty, Openness, Willingness, Acceptance and HUMILITY. Once you build a safe supporty system and have a foundation of humility, you would be more open to the concepts presented in the LPG. For most, I would say to do the Steps first...but discuss with those around you who know where you are coming from. :-)
