With smart materials, instead of messing around trying to find where to rotate the filters and effects, just go to your filters page in your shelf and drag a transform filter onto your smart material folder, then make sure its positioned at the top of the stack, then you can rotate scale and move the whole material from one setting.

Most of 3D,s teachers are very conceited, they speak quickly and in an inconspicuous manner, and this we do not see with you. Your explanation of the lesson is always perfect, thank you again🌹

Usually, when we want to draw straight line with SHIFT+CTRL we do double-draw at the same position (A-B points). Yes, usually lines are not from edge to edge. To get perfect line-over-line: click at start-position outside of island, hold SHIFT+CTRL, left mouse click at end-position of line (outside of another end of island), DON'T RELEASE SHIFT+CTRL, go back to start-position and left mouse click again. That way we have perfect line over line that fills all the gaps. In short: click pos-A, hold Shift+Ctrl, click pos-B, click pos-A, release Shift+Ctrl. Voila!

the fact that you didnt continue the split lines over the top of each barrel plank is driving my ocd crazy. maybe using good reference is something you may want to accentuate before how to use sp?

Not to continually heap praise upon thee, but I am loving these Substance tutes. I was following Allegorithmic's tutorial, and it was so involved with so many steps, it started to lose me.

Yes, I felt the same way. I was trying to learn substance painter through Allegorithmic and got super confused. I had to learn on my own. lol!

@@AcademicPhoenixPlus Well, your simpler, straightforward approach has helped me to believe that I could actually create some serious texture maps with this program. Keep up the good teaching work.

How do you rotate the texture on only certain parts of the mesh?
@AcademicPhoenixPlus3 жыл бұрын
What I did was duplicate the texture, mask out what I wanted to be impacted, and rotated the texture. I go over how to rotate texture in the book tutorial, especially the pages: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6iqY62Zdq-FatE I hope this helps!

I'm not sure I agree with a lot of the actions you've taken here, particularly the entire section about drawing lines. You make a good point that usually exact specifically distanced lines are bad, but this is a BARREL, where construction of one to make it water tight is genuinely difficult and would very much use specifically sized planks - You'd EXPECT the planks to be identical in this case. Likewise, the drawing of the lines at the top is completely wrong when it goes over the lip. That lip there would clearly have lines inwards from the sides of the barrel, and the way you drew them is very... interesting, to say the least. I thought you'd cover the issue up with a metal lip but apparently not. Both of these issues could be fixed if you simply modeled a high-poly model to bake these cracks in which would probably take less time and give more specific results without having to paint in substance.

Thank you for the input Ellie. This tutorial is for beginners and an example on how to use Substance Painter to create textures from scratch. I could bring other software into the picture, but that defeats the purpose of the tutorial. Yes, it can always be better, but it's pretty amazing what you can create just using Substance Painter.
