The best thing I have been able to do to counter my traditional oil painting is doing pop art palette knife paintings. Freedom to make a mess, play with paint and finish something quick.

Hello Julie, Thanks for the stream, there was much good info! I wanted to just ask one question, if okay. I also paint in layers, but usually as follows (after I transfer a drawing) 1st layer: thinned, scrubbed paint without solvent (my Underpainting) 2nd layer: paint straight from the tube (to get form) 3rd layer: paint with just a bit of linseed oil (for details) So, sometimes, I will do a 4th or 5th layer. Does this mean, that, in these additional layers, I should always add a bit more oil (a bit more than my 3rd layer) to follow fat over lean? So 4th would have a tad more oil than 3rd, and 5th, more than 4th. Or also, I should never go back to paint just from the tube in a 4th layer yes? Just wanted some general principles. You would want to repeat the consistency of oil content of the previous layer
