Today, this sound can be found on any modeling device, and there are hundreds of copies. But have you ever played, experienced, or compared such a real Plexi “Rock monster”?
Thomas, a Plexi enthusiast and collector, will take us through the tones and unique qualities of this historic amp. We’ll explore the different Plexi models and his famous 1987 JMP, which helped define Thomas’s personal tone.
Los Angeles-based Amp Designer Dave Friedman is also a Plexi enthusiast. In this episode, we'll take a closer look at Dave Friedman’s Plex, the amp that is based on Dave’s own favorite Plexi, featuring a vintage circuit design with modern tweaks to capture the ultimate “brown sound” by Van Halen, along with a Mastervolume. Thomas will compare his original vintage 50W JMP Plexis with Friedman’s new release, demonstrating how the Plexi has evolved and why it continues to be sought after by rock guitarists. And of course, he will compare all these Plexis to his own AMP1 Mercury Edition.

I hope you enjoyed this episode on my favorite amps of all time, that became also part of my personal tone: the Plexi. In this episode I focused on my 50. Watts vs the new Friedman Plex and of corse my AMP1. Sorry for the scratchy pots on my vintage gear… I know it all could use some maintenance… Just remember that they are over 50 years old!!! I hope you get a feel for what everybody talks about, but not everyone has played a real Plexi. If you have the chance to play a cranked one with no master or powersoak-just the way like they did in the sixties and seventies: it’s an experience! Life is different after that!!! Witzig, mein Lieblingsplexi ist ein Super Tremolo mit MV. Leider hat jemand das MV dort eingebaut wo bei deinem das Pilot light ist. Klingt tierisch, auch bei akzeptabler Lautstärke.

AMP1 is actually scalable from 100 watts down to 7 and from 2 to 159mW. (with 1 Control, a device that gives you more options as I didn’t want to overload the amp1 with too many features)
