My niece had a brain bleed from an arteriovenous malformation and had to be airlifted to a hospital a few years ago. She has seizures and memory problems. You are so awesome to upload your progress for people to see.

Oh Becca, the musical interlude!!! Seeing you go through this, I don't even know what to say other than you are amazing and you inspire me. Your being willing to share your vulnerability and experience like this will help so many people. I'm sure of it. Much love to you! Now I have to catch up because I'm realizing I missed a few of your videos!

I had a possible Transient Ischemic Attack (like a mini-stroke) at over 15 years ago and I still have trouble with math and a few other things today. I've been in the exact same place so this really hit hard seeing you struggle. It took some time to get me self back up to roughly normal functioning, though I still have frequent glitches and brain stalls. You aren't alone though! We're in this together, good luck and good healing! it will be okay :)

Awwww, thank you! Although I'm not alone, there is little research on acalculia. It's hard to know where to start with rehabilitation. Thank you for reaching out and typing a message. I feel the love!!🙌

Have you have neuropsychological testing done? My daughter had an AVM rupture in 2017 at age 10 and was in hospital for 8 months. She had neuropsychological testing done during the last month and the results were pretty devastating. Overall extremely low processing speed, ability to maintain attention and dreadful scores on all things mathematical. She just had the testing repeated this past June and overall she shows a ton of improvement except in the math areas. She’s now been formally diagnosed with a math learning disability. We’ll be getting her a tutor as she’s starting grade 9 this year. We’re in Ontario too. Sorry to see how this experience has made your cognitive skills suffer. Glad you’re doing well physically. My daughter’s bleed was very severe. We’re blessed she has come as far as she has.

Hi Allison, Thank you for sharing your/ your daughter's story. 8 months is an excruciating year in hospital. This is a devastating and life-altering experience for your family. I'm not going to offer any platitudes. I see you and I sit with you in your grief. My son, Oscar, is age 10 right now, and so your story connects with me on many levels. Yes, I had neurological testing in hospital and at the one year mark. Last week, I received the results of the testing. I do see the improvement. When we use the first baseline as the stroke event and compared to that testing, the improvement is significant. When I compare the results to my former self, the results are devastating. When it comes to math, I scored in the average range. Yet, I was working with statistics at the PHD level every day so I believe that my education may have been a protective factor for me. I'm able to access different parts of my brain in order to problem solve. Likely my age is another protective factor that I was living a typical math life for many years and I can draw on different parts of my brain to problem solve. I'm happy to speak more privately with you about my neuropsychological testing. Are you following the research led by Daniel Ansari out of Western university on dyscalculia? Here's one of his lectures kzbin.info/www/bejne/eF6tin6Mia19hMU

What kind of test can work out the stroke and acalculia ?
@mydisorderedbrain86073 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean what kind of psychoneurological testing is used? I suppose it was never a formal diagnosis. While I was in the hospital, I couldn't read a clock, I couldn't count, I couldn't use money to pay for a coffee. So, I'm relearning all of those skills.
