I had exactly the same thing after my stroke. I could write fine, but I couldn’t read. I worked hard, just as you clearly did, and most of it came back. So I speak from experience when I say that you are a hero.

You explain BEAUTIFULLY with courage and so clearly the Learning Disabilities after a stroke. I had a stroke in MY left hemisphere about 20 years ago and STILL you surprised me with facts Well done 👏

Whaaaat?! Is love to hear more about your book, and happy to talk! One thing about Agraphia is that I can often spell the word on a keyboard even though I don't know how to spell it! I need to make a video about that!

I just found your channel. I had an hemmoragic stroke from an AVM in my temporal lobe. I also have aphasia. So many people don’t understand. The biggest thing for me is that I was a kindergarten/grade 1 teacher. I couldn’t read or write and still not able to go back to teach

The best thing is that I have colleagues that could send me my grade 1 spelling words, and leveled reading books for me. I worked hard to get to a level G that first year This past January (2023) is my 5th year anniversary 🧠

I’ve had several strokes (one due to a venous malformation) and have complained of this. It’s very mild but very stressful. Mine was May of 2030. Thank you for sharing. This really meant a lot.

Thanks for taking a moment to connect with me! There are three things needed for neuroplasticity: connection, exercise and novelty! You are helping our brains heal!

@@AmyPerkinsonHale I'm @ComfortHeadbands on Instagram. I make wide-wired headbands designed to stay secure without causing tightness or pressure. They are inspired by my own experience with hair loss. Please follow me! I'd love to share more with my American friends! Also, I've partnered with a national organization to speak at their spring annual conference! Can't wait to share more about it! I'll be speaking about my experience in a stroke hospital.

I no the feeling. I had my brain AVM rupture in that spot. It damaged my reading and short term memory loss but It’s a little different than how yours is. If I’m just reading to my self than it’s no problem. But if reading out loud to someone I won’t remember it as well. My therapist said it’s sort of like reading a 2nd language some are gifted with it others not as much.

My dad suffered stroke this weekend and he lost his speech and his ability to do math… he was in for 4 days and they sent him home already. Is that normal?

Once stable, it's better to get home and start the reabilitation therapies. My father had a stroke 4 months ago, how are your dad doing?

Rebecca - I’m in the metro Detroit area if I can help you on your journey with the brain restoration research track I’m pursuing. I’m 3+ years post-injury plus the added concussion, post-COVID, mold and staccybotris in our home and bodies, and a natural gas leak in home while alone 70+% of the time or more. Could you help our young stroke survivor group and teach me how to advocate for better patient care in America? Thanks, Sarah! Great-granddaughter of a terrific French-Canadian! :)

Hi Sarah! I'd love to connect! Not sure how I can help! I'll be presenting at the Heart and Stroke foundation annual conference this spring and Vancouver. But, we're so close to! And I've been wanting to go for a bike ride and you're amazing biking infrastructure in Detroit!! 😍 Maybe message me through Instagram or Facebook @comfortheadbands

Can alexia cured by itself? Or its a disability!?
@mydisorderedbrain86073 жыл бұрын
Rehabilitation can help improve reading. It's been 15 months since my stroke. I read at a grade 1 level. So, it's both a disability but also something I work to improve every day. I believe it's unlikely I will ever read at the level and speed before my stroke. I hope that helps answer your question!

My father had a stroke in his left occipital lobe which left him unable to read, he can do math, he can write but can't read. It's been four months and he barely recognize single letters. But I didn't give up yet.@@mydisorderedbrain8607
