Super fun showdown video of three awesome trumpets! We always try to take advantage of having special horns in the shop by doing comparisons. Many of these superhorns either sell quickly on our new arrivals page or are sold before we can even list them publicly, so we try to take advantage with these videos when we can! The three horns in this video are:
1. Lotus: features a two piece bell, flat flare, recessed buttons, and MAW valve block
2. Coppernicus: ACB exclusive with double shepherd's crook, copper plate, and a large bell
3. Blackburn L1 in raw brass: has the 12M 348 pipe and 462 bore, more of a commercial setup
The Blackburn can be found on our web store here: www.austincust...
Raw audio as always in these videos so you can really compare the horns without any artificial reverb or sweetening. Which is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! Can you hear any differences in tone, response, slotting, or some other factor?
We can always get you the Coppernicus, an ACB by Adams collaborative instrument. Order through our web store or give us a call: www.austincust.... We have lots more videos on this horn if you search our channel.
If you're looking for a particular trumpet, please send us an email at info@austincustombrass.com! We may have it in stock or know someone who's looking to sell. Want to sell your trumpet? We might have a buyer waiting! And we routinely have hundreds of instruments in stock at www.austincustombrass.biz

Great horns all three, but for me the Blackburn sounds the best.

Love these three horns! I agree with most of the comments on here. The Lotus has a lot of character and may not be for everyone. That Copernicus is so versatile! It sounds so good in the mid to low register always, but when you played the Phil Collins, you really made it sparkle! The Blackburn is a trumpeter's trumpet! Very clean, centered sound in all registers, and clean articulations. The farther into the video you got, the better you made that horn sound. Thanks for sharing these three awesome horns. If I had the $$$$, I'd get them all!

Even as a novice trumpet player ,without looking at the comments section, I would say that I prefer ... BLACKBURN 🎺👏🎶... However they are all great horns! Thanks for the video 🙏

The Copernicus does it for me, nice middle-brassy "ooooh" timbre, great slotting throughout it's natural range and great workmanship of that valve block just moves me like water down a waterfall...🥇🎺🎵👌😏

I have to go with the Blackburn. There was more body in the sound and it seemed more controllable. It seemed you were able to color the sound more on the Blackburn. Hey Trent when are you going to do another gig from your driveway? Super playing as always!

thanks so much for checking out the video. It's funny you mention that we are thinking about doing another live concert from the driveway next Friday the 17th if our neighborhood agrees!

I agree: Blackburn wins. It's a classic trumpet sound, full of overtones and lively resonance. You also seemed most comfortable on the Blackburn, with the response being immediate and intuitive. Copernicus has a nice velvety tone, like playing into a pillow drenched in caramel. But I agree that it seemed stubborn, requiring more energy than you were able to put in at that moment, lots of air balls there. Finally the Lotus: very even but monochromatic, lacking in color, no sparkle. Sounds like a sine wave without overtones.

The Blackburn is the most even and in tune of the three to my ears.

The Copernicus gave a warmer sound in my opinion, but the Lotus was also good. Great playing.

Coppernicus for me. Played on a much less expensive horn for many years (LeBlanc/Holton), but was/am a big Al Hirt fan (my generation), so what he played was what I liked. His tone was closer (in my ear) to that of the Coppernicus. They were all beautiful. So, it's just a matter of one person's ear as opposed to another one's ear.

I hear the Lotus having the most gentle notes' transitions, which corresponds to Your jazzy, not classicaly sharp and precise articulation. Coppernicus has more stubborn slotting, which makes Your fast notes often cut, misplaced. I love Coppernicus at the bottom range though

Interesting. Want to listen again with better headphones, but the Blackburn had the liveliest (brightest = most trumpety) and most even temperament low to high. The ACB Copperinicus was very nice and certainly looks the best, but as noted already in comments, the slotting caused a bit of drama at times today. The Lotus sounded flat on many lower notes, but has a lovely voice overall. Personally, I like a darker sounding horn, so the ACB would get my vote. If I had a Blackburn I would want it finished in lacquer at a minimum. Just not a 'raw brass' fan once it ages ... but this was about sound, not finish.

I listen with my eyes closed. They were similar in the center of things. I felt Lotus was the darkest and out of the 3 just from being outside of things I liked the sound. Maybe good for a solo player in small ensemble. Sound like it fought back in the upper. The lightest sounding and I wouldn’t necessarily say bright was the Blackburn. Good in large ensemble playing, big band. Seemed like it took you to the top easier.

I was very surprised the Lotus fared so poorly to my ears, didn't sound like it slotted well and certainly did not have as fat a low register as the others.

Honestly I think that was more operator error on my part as the horn is drastically different in terms of the feel when playing.

Fascinating. Thank you so much for these videos. I was surprised that the Coppernicus was relatively "bright" considering it's copper, and has two shepherds crooks. It's a lovely sound. The Lotus is the darkest and smokiest of the three. The Blackburn sounds solid and even, like they do eh? How do they feel though?? How do they slot, how does the low register react in comparison the upper? Thanks again Trent!!! Bravo!

Blackburn... because of it's fat classic sound, it's what people's ears are familiar with! Maybe a Hubbard type listen.
