Monette has a slightly richer tone while Coppernicus seems like it slots better. I think it would depend on what you were playing primarily but when you factor the cost of a Monette vs Adams it's not as tough of a choice!

Coppernicus has got my vote for a much more darker and smoother tone. I dig it!! 😎🎺👍

No idea on the Monette and the Coppernicus is proprietary and I care not to disclose.
@teslasintern3 жыл бұрын
I definitely prefer the Copernicus; it's cleaner... The Monette is darker, but it sounds too dark for me. the Monette is almost "airy" (like it has leaky valves, but without the poor articulation that comes with that).

Thanks Scott! I prefer Coppernicus as well ;-) hope all is well your way!

If you would asked me two years ago what I liked more, I'd say Monette. But the older I get, the more I have to say that Coppernicus is just better trumpet with beautiful sound. Bright and centered (my opinion)

I own an Adams Coppernicus and I’m in love with it. It can be smooth and warm or bright and sassy all in the same piece of music. I don’t play anywhere near like Trent, But it is a great horn to use in my community bands. I grow with it more and more as I play it every week. My band buddies like my sound on it too. I get complements from the trombone players across the band and they say they hear that beautiful horn over there cutting through all the rest. It is distinctive. You can’t go wrong with a Coppernicus!

You sound great on both! The Monette has a more prominent core tone. The Copernicus has a great center, but with more sparkle, brilliance without being too sizzly. To me there's no clear winner. I might choose the Adams today, but if that Monette were handy I'd play it as well.

The coppernicus seems to be a little bit less bright than the monette, but honestly for the price id get the Coppernicus 😂 (Monette is like 15k lol)

Wonderful head to head! Love both horns. Adams is a bit more brilliant but the Monette seems to have bigger targets, especially from the top of the staff and beyond. Great horns! I'll take both!

Fascinating Rhythm there.... Monette sounds warmer. Gotta say I like it better for bop.

Interesting... I'd absolutely say that the Coppernicus is a *much* warmer sound - if by warmer you mean darker/more cornet like

Both are great..... How about an A1 gen 2/Coppericus comparison? I haven't had the opportunity to play Coppernicus but i must say it seems like a great horn. Wish i were able to test it out at Midwest Clinic.
@TheRcbb5 жыл бұрын
REALLY enjoyed this video...thanks! IMO Monette is darker, heavier; Adams has more spark, maybe more definition in the very rapid playing? Are the cup sizes about the same? Maybe that could account for the difference in sound?

I think a more fair trumpet comparison would be the Coppernicus vs a Monette Flumpet. The Coppernicus is closer to a Flugel sound than a trumpet so comparing it to a trumpet doesn't make as much sense to me :P

Hi Trent. Great job on both, of course. And both sound excellent in all registers. If forced to choose, I'd say the Monette has a slightly more pleasant low register. Thanks for the head-to-head.
@caroljohnson88175 жыл бұрын
Now I’d like to add, that the feel of holding these two horns is also a factor. The Coppernicus might feel a little heavier because the bell is larger than the Monette. Monette is a traditional build, unlike the Coppernicus. When you set it up to,your lips, you’ll know what I mean. But your ears really perk up when you first play the Coppernicus. Instant magnetism!
@robertkerr97384 жыл бұрын
Those two horns sound so similar (and amazing)! I do feel like, if I can put it into words, that the Monette has a wider sound and that Coppernicus's sound is slightly more narrow or focused. But man, they both sound amazing (though really I think it's mostly because of the guy behind the mouthpiece!).
@newunderthesun73533 жыл бұрын
The better the player the harder to hear the differences in the horns. A great player makes great music on any horn. He'd make my high school Yamaha sound pretty good too. When you put a less skilled player on these horns the differences are more apparent in my opinion.
@aragon12534 жыл бұрын
The bottom end in that Copernicus is so fat. At first I preferred the Monette but the more you played the more I preferred the Copernicus. So many great overtones.

Both horns sound great and you Sir make the most interesting videos of the internet. My clumsy ears let me think that the monette has a tiny bit more sizzle and the copernicus and hint more well refined power.✌
@AgileMarketer5 жыл бұрын
Pretty darn close! I actually think I prefer the Adams in your demo. The Monette has a great sound but I hear what I would best call a harmonic overtone in the sound.The best way I can describe that is the Adams is more velvet as if a harmonic been suppressed. It's kind of weird - I don't have the best headphones right now so like I said - pretty darn close
@AgileMarketer5 жыл бұрын
I should add tho - I would prefer the Monette sound for this style of playing
@linkbox9 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree! Seems like there are higher overtones in the monette; if I had to guess its because the coppernicus has a bigger bell? If you got a shallower mouthpiece then you can increase the brightness that way. I prefer the monette but its also kuch more expensive 😅

Damn Trent, you are killing on this video!!! I love that Aebersold, so swinging! Both sound great, but what I hear is a slightly brighter sound on the Adams and the articulation is a little crisper. I know what Dave would say, but could you play the Monette with a Monette mpc? You killed it!
@jmathesonjr5 жыл бұрын
It seems to me as a non-trumpeter, that the Adams was a little easier for you to play. The definition and sound seemed clearer and more articulate. The dynamics seemed better on the Adams. The Monette has a darker sound. It seemed to me to be more muffled, if I can use that term here. If I were hiring Trent to play this tune on a gig for me and I could pick the trumpet for the gig. I would go with the Adams. I would have preferred to hear the trumpets with Trent's own mouthpiece, but I know that is not possible with the Monette. In all honesty, neither trumpet is my favorite. Trent did a video a while back with a bent bell, a la Dizzy, trumpet that beat both of these trumpets and all others featured on these videos hands down. The sound on that trumpet was fantastic. It really made these two almost seem like they were not in the same family of instruments as that horn. Not sure what the make and model was of that trumpet, but that sound has stuck with me for a long time. These trumpets will shine with the right player. Trent is a great trumpeter. However, neither trumpet really tripped my trigger., but if my vote counts, I would go with the Adams all the way.
