Hitachi TRK 9100: A Future-Proof Boom Box (1984)

The Hitachi TRK-9100H stereo cassette boombox (1983-1985) has a line input, a line output, and even a built-in a phono pre-amp! Although it is not high end or collectable, it seems to be an item of reasonable sound quality and durability, considering it is almost 40 years old.

Seriously, by the mid 1980's these things grew to Goliath size. I remember the 1970's "small" boom boxes. The ones with a built-in cassette player/recorder (using built-in mic), AM/FM stereo and maybe a tone dial. Battery or AC they were swell to use in the park while hanging with friends, smokin' weed, drinkin' brews and chillin' out to some boss tunes. I still have two; a Superscope and a Sanyo. These big boys were really more suited to in home use as (at least in NYC) were too expensive and heavy to drag around outside. I did get my dad a Sanyo C-4 system in 1982. Looks like the only thing this TRK 9100 can't do is brew coffee. Still though, it sure is impressive.

I just got the tiny boombox I had when I was little. It has line-in but you can't even hear it when you hit record, you have to play it back later.
