I had seen this video before but kinda put it on the shelf because I didn't really have the time to practice it (that's what I had told myself). But decided to finally try it now, and to anyone who's reading this, if you really want to improve your Rs, this is the perfect video. This video is REALLY worth investing your time. With just these 10 minutes of practice I can ALREADY feel it's noticeably easier to pronounce the R sounds (especially saying "further back" which I could not for the life of me pronounce correctly). Thank you so much, Hadar!

Oh my! This is one of my favorite comments ever! So glad it helped!
@denou1241 Жыл бұрын
@@minecat3707 the next day in casual conversation I said "further back" and it just came out right. While I practiced the video for 10 minutes, I also tried to make the sound without tensing my tongue too much (which I believe was the issue for me, since I was tensing my tongue quite harshly). I just tried practicing the sound in a way that felt more natural rather than forced.

hey so I know it’s been 6 months but in doing this how’s ur progress been if you’ve kept up w it?
@denou1241 Жыл бұрын
@@cjhalloway179 I no longer have any problems pronouncing any R sounds. But I didn't stick to this video only. I did both shadowing exercises to get the R vowels/consonant to the right place, and I also used this video to help me memorize the sounds for once. This kind of exercise actually works pretty well with other vowels too (and consonants, I think, but I never tried that so I can't know for sure). I find that if you exercise the vowel sounds using consonant/consonant cluster + vowel, it's much more effective than trying to memorize a vowel by only repeating words with that specific vowel.

I'm a professional VO and grew up outside of Boston, MA. We don't pronounce "r"s at the end of words. We say "nevah"..."caaah"..."paaakh." It's pretty awful really. And when we need to pronounce it at the beginning of a word such as "red", our top teeth come down on our bottom lip, our tongue is not touching anything. Sounds like "erred." Again, pretty bad. Very hard to unlearn that if I wanted to sound neutral. This (and all) of your videos are incredibly helpful too. There is always something to learn. Thank you for your expertise!

I've watched many speech videos for the R sound and I think this is the best one. I've recorded myself and I finally got some semblance of an R sound with these shorter, simple words. Still not even close, but it's a tiny, tiny bit there. I'm 29 years old and have never been able to pronounce the R sound and it affects me in almost every aspect of my life. And I've never had the money to afford going to an actual speech therapist even though I've always wanted to. I have to avoid jobs involving lots of communication because of it, I'm not very social because of it, and I've even come up with completely different words and terms to use in conversation to avoid saying things with the R sound. I've always been really embarrassed by it and even writing this comment right now gives me anxiety about it. I feel confident that if I can manage to nail the sound that I can force myself to stick with it, I've just never been able to make it sound right to begin with. When I was a kid all my R sounds always sounded like a W, so words like Ray and Rock would sound like Way and Wock, but as an adult it changed to L and UGH sounds so words like Rock now sounds like Lock and Harder sounds like Hardugh(or something similar to that). Anyway, thank you for the video :)

same with me. I am a teenager and I have never been able to say the r sound at all. it always was a “ugh” or “o” sound which is incorrect. I’ve tried countless videos and different positions of my tongue and teeth and mouth but I never once got it correct… I am super self conscious and I avoid talking to people because of it. I hope someday I can figure out how
