Thank you very much! This was a wonderful video! Your use of colour is impactful. Ideas? Something that comes to mind is a basic step-by-step on how to navigate photoshop in order to enhance images:). If art prospective art students only have non-digital skills, photographing work can be tricky. Making my artworks appear the same in photographs versus real-life can be difficult for non-experienced photographers (for example, colouring, warping and resolution). This is majorly important for the quality of the portfolio. (and would be a great video!) Looking forward to your next videos and best of luck on your adventure!

Thank you! And yes, that's a very good point. Photographing work can be very difficult. I know a few people who have hired a photographer friend to photograph their work because of this... But if you photograph them yourself, there are likely some tutorials online to help with lighting ideas or Photoshop tutorials about altering color! Sometimes I find that natural daylight is a great source of lighting (as long as you avoid shadows or shooting at a super harsh time of day).

Hello! If you are a year 4 student does this mean that you will only own an MA after graduation? I am currently trying to have an answer about whether I have the right to enter year 2 in Ecole des Beaux-Arts Paris (I own a degree in French Litterature and an MA-Sociology of Education) They still have not answered since the beginning of November... !!! I guess it's typical for...french Universities? (Great videos by the way -and great room decor-and thank you for uploading them!)

Hi! I will have a DNSEP after I graduate (essentially the equivalent of a Masters Degree in the USA). Entering year 2 of 5 would mean you are entering in the "undergraduate" portion. After completing year three you receive a DNA (essentially equivalent to a Bachelor's degree). It's difficult to figure out the equivalency when your degree is in a different field or from another country. I personally had a Bachelor's Degree in Film and decided to apply to enter into Year 4 (since I felt I had sufficient arts training with my Bachelor's degree and outside experience). I think a lot of it has to do with the strength of the portfolio, since if you are entering after year 1 it is part of the "equivalency commission", so they are judging you based on your portfolio and letter of motivation. I would recommend reaching out to the specific schools you want to apply to (via their educational coordinator or an admissions person) and see what they recommend. They should be able to help (versus a general contact email for the school such as info@___.com where your message might get lost!). Best of luck!

Thank you for the tip! May I ask you What program are you in at the school? Photography major or fine arts??
@hellonicolette
@hellonicolette 10 ай бұрын
I was a general Art major ("Arts Plastiques" in French). My program allowed for art majors to work in the medium(s) of their choice. There were people in the program who did painting, photography, sculpture, performance, etc. So it was a diverse mix! But the majors weren't separated by medium (just by Art, Graphic Design, and Design).

Don't they ask for motivation letters and artist statements besides the portfolio?
@hellonicolette
@hellonicolette 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the school. Most ask for a letter of motivation. I wasn't specifically asked for an artist statement, but decided to include it as part of my portfolio.

I want to apply to year 4 directly too, is the process same or do you have to do something else?
@hellonicolette
@hellonicolette 4 ай бұрын
Yes! That's the process I went through (entering directly into year 4). In my experience, this required a portfolio and an interview (but no sit-down exams, which many Beaux Arts schools require if you are entering into Year 1). You'll just have to prove you either received a previous degree (like a Bachelors in the US or a License in France) OR that you demonstrate enough professional/artistic life experience to be permitted without prior higher education (this is a more rare case, and I believe requires a written letter and resume).
