Cara Black is an author who sets her police procedural/ detective novels in each separate arrondissement of Paris. I suggest that you have provisions of wine, cheese, coffee, chocolate and maybe a baguette on hand to add to the pleasure of the read.

What a gem of a video to come across! Thank you for making this ☺️ as someone who loves french culture, language, and nuances I am always looking for books, movies, etc. to learn more. I too first dreamed of Paris thanks to David Leibovitz’s book and am very much looking forward to your other recommendations I haven’t experienced yet. 🌷

'Almost French' by Sarah Turnbull is A+. Basically: non-fiction account of Aussie journalist meets young French lawyer and visits for a few days to stay-marry THEN navigate the high-lows of attempting to live French. You will laugh out loud. Fantastic read.

This video appeared at just the right time for me. Just finished reading "My Life in France" by Julia Childs. It's an easy, light-hearted read since she has such an entertaining voice. Highly recommend if you're curious about classic French cuisine or expat living in post-war Paris✨

If you are American, expect an average of 6 months of rejections from les propriétaires because you are not French. Me and all my friends had to find renters who were desperate.

Those felt hangers give more space for clothes. Maybe a little table for the entry way where you can put your keys on? I like the idea of the foldable curtain to separate the bed from the living room. Too bad you couldn’t do a full length curtain from the ceiling to the floor and then slide over when you want to open it up. You manifested your dream. Congrats. It’s truly lovely.

there's a many places in France where water is hard. I don't know where you lived in the south of France, but it's usually hard in most places... only specific places, in mountains, or on special rocks, get a soft water. You say you were in Toulouse, you where lucky in this region, the water is soft, due to the close mountains, i guess.

Just to say that I experienced looking for a studio in Paris more than 20 years ago and it was a nightmare already. I found one after a month, and I lived in the same studio for 3 years there. When I had to leave, the landlord was so bumped because it's hard to find tenants that pay rent on time and don't make any problem to the neighbors, the landlord

Hi ! I don't think you mentioned the "encadrement des loyers". That's super super important to mention. The chambre de bonne you saw that cost 600e were probably above the encadrement and so illegal. Basically, rent can not surpass a certain amount per sqm, (landlords sometimes try to go around it with a "complément de loyer" but it's illegal). A lot of time rents on renting websites will be too high. It's possible to bring your rent down even after having signed your lease. If you look up encadrement des loyers there is info on the internet. PS never tell the landlord or the agency that you know the price is too high before you sign. They will just choose someone else.

Useful video but one thing I miss is what sort of payments do u have to make when u move in? Is it 1 or 2 months’ deposit, what percentage is agency fee if you are going with an agency, what bills are there to pay? Can u choose utility providers, do u need a landline for internet, how do you get back the deposit after moving out (any legal guarantee that the landlord gives it back). Do u do inventory check when u move in (etats de lieux or similar). Do u have to pay anything to reserve an apartment in advance to have it taken off the market? In London we have something called Holding Deposit that we lose if we change our mind.

Great Video, thanks. Yes Fontainebleau is one of the most interesting castles to visit, no other castles had so much kings and emperors in its walls and beds. Most Tourists flock To Versailles but to my opinion Fontainebleau should be a must go for every history enthusiast. And definitely a nice break from Paris!

Welcome! , enjoy! have fun!

I'm so happy to find someone who chose to live in Toulouse :D I hope you like it ! I think its a great choice because you are close to the mountain & the sea, there is a decent airport which allows you to go almost everywhere in Europe, and its a studend city (Second or Third in ranking in France) so its quite vibrant, you will find a lot of people speaking English or Spanish ! Downside it might be very hot in Summer just like Spain ^^'
