Think it's better to make the whole bathroom a "wetroom." The whole bathroom floor slopes towards a large drain. That means much more maneuverability and fewer things to catch toes on. There's a bigger sense of spaciousness when the curtain is pushed back to the wall. Use the shower curtain to protect cabinets, toilet, etc. Much easier to clean, too.

Make the bathroom a wetroom with a shower curtain to protect toilet, cabinets etc. The whole bathroom floor drains off instead of just the shower area. Fewer things to bump into getting into the shower. Fewer corners to clean. The sink overflows it goes towards the drain. Lots of plusses.

Each of us….whether age -ready or not….what is being done at the county level? Is planning in place? Low cost loans and grants? Information of every kind for Age in Place-what is your county doing ? So much can be open source, homeowners can make improvements incrementally. It should be a family affair. Bring everybody together for ideas and to finance improvements for family members who need assistance. Items shown here…the things are durable and would have resale value if you changed your mind. If you were looking to buy a home, wouldn’t you favor one that had ramps and a home elevator and lowered cabinets? Assisted living averages $7900 - $9000 a month. Compare that to handicapped fixtures shown here. Talk with family members about how it can work. As we age, set aside money that can be used to modify and improve. People understand downsize. Let’s think right size. Good for This Old House for bringing up this subject. More please.

Home builders and developers have failed us. This market while helpful, price gouges the accessible needs. Get rid of stairs and replace with gradual ramping; have only one story. Mandate 36" wide doors, better is pocket doors. Drains in floors like kitchen and bathroom...make all kitchen appliances counter height. Have more sensors for falls along with touchless lighting and access. Stop with overhead cabinets. Its a start but long way off. Make corners radius and features for grab access.
