Justin, today of all days, was perfect timing for this video. I am bi-polar II, with PTSD, anxiety, and a month ago, diagnosed with Lyme disease, and now just this last week, found out there is something wrong with my heart. I use music for a lot of reasons, to focus, or to play my guitar and song along. Get out a depressive rut, like today for example. I listen to broad range of music, from old school rock, to classical, celtic, folk, bluegrass, etc... I could go on for sometime but you get the idea. Music is SOOOOOO undervalued in so many ways. It is sad to say that even the number of people going out and learning to play ANY kind of instrument is not what it used to be when I was growing up, and you and I are the same age, or even learning to sing. Sadly, here is in the US, unless you go to a private therapist, music IS NOT in any shape or form used as a therapy tool even. If people want a good healthy form of healing, or whatever reason it might be, LOOK TO MUSIC! Loved the video! ✌️

I've used a bunch of methods including sound healing vids on KZbin with different frequencies alongside listening to my regular music which can be anything from heavy metal to pop and i find it lifts my mood. and I'm no evidence of disease currently. Sending healing vibes. ✌☯️🖤

Not entirely true. Music therapy is used at lots of renowned hospitals, as is art, horticulture, and other types of therapies. I have experienced alternative therapies bedside as well as part of a group while at a well known hospital short and long term in NYC. I have gone there for rehab and treatment from an accident dating back to 2003. I’ve experienced it both in patient and outpatient. It exists, but sadly not in nearly enough medical settings. If I didn’t know where to seek a hospital with an open mind that offers these types of options, I don’t think I’d be the same today.

@SuziQ. I will try and keep this as short as I can, but it is lengthy! I was bit by a tick in 2019 just above my left knee. I was in the ER about 10 days later and had the classic bulls eye rash and the ER doctor confirmed it was a tick bite. Not sure where you are located, here in the US, following standard procedure, I was given 14 days of doxycycline, took all of it and thought I was all set. About November 2020, I began feeling very fatigued and had bad headaches and that was just the start. This went on for years, until my mom asked if there had been any further testing done afterwards, as my cousin had the same problems years before and was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Somone gave me a resource, a website Global Lyme Alliance, and there you will find a PDF of the list of symptoms it causes. I highlighted everything and brought it to my PCP, they did run the blood tests, and came back negative, which we knew it would as the CDC has not changed the testing in the US for decades, the only labs that will test for EVERYTHING in the US is Igenenex - NOT covered by insurance, and Medical Diagnostics - IS covered by insurance. For me, I was fortunate enough to have a PCP, who looked at my chart saw that the EM rash was confirmed for a tick bite, looked at the symptoms and said yes this all adds up and started me on antibiotics, I am only two weeks in now and some of the symptoms have started to clear up, but it looks like a minimum of 3 months of antibiotics up to 6 months depending on how my body responds. If your doctor is not willing to listen, ONLY a suggestion, but maybe another doctor might help? If your doctor is an infectious disease doctor, I AM NOT 100% sure on this, but they will not recognize chronic Lyme disease as a diagnosis. Hope you get better! ✌️

When I'm feeling down, I suppose, I actually play and write more. Playing guitar is healing beyond any measure, for me. I actually watch the Taylor Hawkins tribute from Wembley, often. It was not just a celebration of Taylor Hawkins, but rather, a celebration of music in and of itself. I wish there were more concerts like that. Those that just celebrate great music and musicians. I can't stop listening to the Darkness, Supergrass and Them Crooked Vultures. I find you guys energizing especially when I exercise or want to get my energy levels up. The endorphins released help alleviate any darkness (no pun intended) that creeps in. Taylor's passing lit a light for me...for millions. Sharing his favorite music saved people from another dreadful day of existence. We live in a World that takes from the poorest and weakest. Music gives everything good in the world back. It tops off our tanks with rejuvenating sonic amazement. The problem with the world is not that we're on drugs, but that we're on the wrong kind. Music is a drug because it alters our state. So is proper meditation. You have become a strong force in my life. Your good energy shines. Your stage performance and presence alters perceptions of what live performances should be. So, in a way, you are healing people. Hey! Dr. Justin Hawkins Performs Surgery Again...AGAIN!!!

I’ve lived most of my life with depression and then in later years anxiety was added to the mix. I’ve always turned to music for not only its musicality in that I love different kinds of music for all kinds of reasons, but also for its therapeutic power to help me to focus, elevate my mood, allow me the means of pouring out my emotions happy or sad and simply help me to navigate through life with the pitfalls and challenges we all encounter. Put simply, music makes me feel alive. So therefore I am of the opinion that music is at the forefront of my day to day existence and is with respect, is never merely in the background.

Music is so healing. If I'm feeling unwell (e.g headache) I can play my acoustic guitar and it completely grounds me and makes me feel better. I listen to music when I need to focus. I'm terrible for procrastinating and get overwhlemed easily but when I put some good tunes on, it helps me concentrate on what I should be doing. I play music when I'm in a good mood and I play music to put me in a good mood - when I'm feeling low. And I definitely play music when I'm feeling sad. Whether that's to confront or overcome emotions. All in all, music is medicine and it's my favourite thing ever. 🎶

Music is everything. Whatever the emotion or moment it resonates with people somehow. If I don’t listen to music daily that makes me feel like something is missing. Some songs make me overthink, some songs make me heal, so pump me up. It’s whatever the listener feels at that time when listening. I do however have to have my daily fix of the Darkness 🙌 I also think you listen to songs in whatever mood you’re in, what you’re feeling, because some albums or songs can just play whatever you’re feeling.. I can’t articulate it but I feel music. So I’d say it’s a very important component in life. And I’ll always share music, discover new artists and keep on looking for it.

You look very fresh to be just awakened! Love your hair! To go into the subject to debate, i never expected to be necessary to look into this stuff. I thought that it was something taken for granted. In fact music has been used in a lot of aspects to have effects in our activities or even to get something of us. Roman use drums to set the pace to slaves and worker prople. Music can heal, and can be used in the opposite way. Nazis used classic music to torture, and the Guantanamo's prisioner were tortured with rock music (they were forced to keep awake listening rock music during hours) So, of course music has effects on us. I have to say that i never train listening pop music, i listen rock to train. I think that chosen the music depends on the mood, i agree with it. And sometimes i do it properly, i mean listening lyrics or reading them, depending if it is in my own language or another one. I remember that i took part in a reiki sesion and music was very important in it. Finally only to say, if music heals i love your medicine Dr Hawkins 🎸❤️🔥😉

Hey Justin I used to use Spaceman 3 to go to sleep at night but the most amazing 'music as therapy' story occured when I was a primary teacher. I had 5 boys, either fatherless or had step dads who were, let's say 'challenging'. I would ask the class to close eyes, listen to some music ( I would even play Spacemen 3 Ecstatic Symphony) and make marks on white boards and after we would discuss what the sound 'meant' or made them feel. I then played Mogwai's Tracy. Amazingly, all 5 boys began crying and the young lad, whose father had been murdered, asked to speak to the class and shared his story. These were 8 to 9 year olds. Aftre this, although not perfect, their behaviour improved 10 fold. It remains the most satisfying moment of my, unfortunatley, short lived teaching career. Just like to say as well, not a big fan of much of the music you review, I like much less produced sounds, but I very much appreciate your positive manner and your technical musical knowledge. Please, please review French band, Slift. I believe their album, Ummon, a modern great. Thanks for the channel.

Music is everything. Definitely addicted to it. In fact most days I’d rather listen to music than do literally anything else. Some days I do! 😂Music is integral to my life and of course it’s mood altering, soothing & healing. I mainly listen to it for happiness and energy, for exercise and motivation, but sometimes I listen to it to concentrate and wind down. If I feel like I need a good cry but can’t quite get there, I have a tear-jerker playlist that always does the trick and if I’m angry, there’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned rage-mosh! Music affects mood, but for me at least, mood affects music too. Music is the most important thing in my life. It’s always been there & has helped me through all manner of things. Music helps me through my body which acts as a soundboard. Movement, dance, or just sitting in music (with headphones creating a bubble to really be in the music) helped me release what needs to be released, help me change emotional state, and also bring high joy. I like that I don’t have to overintellectualize with music, it brings me down to earthy plains, otherwise I can be overly in my head and yessss the anxiety, rumination, etc Some Darkness songs have brought a lot of fun and smiles, or dancing to it is great for letting go so thank you dr Hawkins ✨💛 ✨

I've even gotten in trouble with some colleagues due to listening to music at work as they think I should be working and not listening to music but when I'm listening to music I'm way more efficient and make fewer mistakes so the manager just lets me do it. Music is intrinsic to my well being. If I couldn't listen to music everyday, I am actually not sure who I'd be. It interests me that the study says that slow tempo, simple melody stuff is great for relaxation. I would find it agitating! I've been to a couple of spas and I'd rather be there in silence than listen to what can be played in places like that. But that's the thing about music. There's something for everyone and if it makes you feel good then it doesn't matter what genre it is.

There’s been believe for a very long time that the type of music played when pregnant will affect the baby. I feel total silence is important, but having soothing music in the background or energetic music during the day is important. When, I’ve had loss in my life, the type of music, if any I can have playing is greatly affected. Same applies to happy moments in life. It’s nice to let the music lead the mood, without anticipating it’s next note or direction

Music affects everyone at different levels. Some people get very little from music. Some people never get the chills or goosebumps from music but they may get mental stimulation by listening to lyrics. Others it changes their lives profoundly.

If i'm looking to relax or even get to sleep I find "Hawkwind - It is the Business of the Future to be Dangerous" works well. Something about the beat on that album.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this research doesn't seem to have been published in a peer-reviewed journal. I couldn't even find a fully written-up study. Just an excerpt from the study which is written by the founder of The British Academy of Sound Therapy.

Well, one way to listen to music doesn't really have to exclude a number of different other ways to listen to it, sometimes at the same time. That music does something to you, that's clear. I rarely listen to things in the background, as that makes it harder for me to concentrate on things, but I do actively listen to things like Judas Priest to give me more energy when I do physical stuff. I definitely listen to things to cheer me up and combat my depression. As my arthritis pains often is very bad and my joints stiffen up, music helps me to move when my body doesn't want to. I start to rock out to something I love, I forget to focus on the pain, as I just can't help myself, the music makes me do it. Your music, along with a lot of other artists I love, simply make me less "whiny" if you will, and gets me going! I don't use music to relax, silence does that, I use it to energize me, yeah, definitely 🙂

I'm risking sounding sycophantic but seeing The Darkness at least twice a tour is my escape and absolute Joy. I've even shed a tear at 'Arrival' (first time out after shielding). Music is definitely a healer.

I can attest to using music and the audio gear hobby as a way to kick alcohol and prescription medication. Not sure it's efficacy is going to be as ubiquitous as we'd like but occupying my free-thought space with ideas about music, critical listening, evaluating gear, getting into new and old music, got me through the pandemic with no chemical assistance. I'm sure a clean diet and exercise also go hand in hand but unfortunately some folks are going to need more help than music or healthy living are going to be able to provide. Regardless, I can definitely give protracted listening sessions a big ol' 👍 for helping someone stay centered. Not sure if therapy would have been cheaper than the money I've spent on headphones but it's only money, some music is priceless and they tend to get upset if you headbang in the therapist's office.

I'm right there with you in the audio gear hobby, and I'm more onboard with the camp that "uses the gear to listen to music" rather than "uses the music to listen to the gear." I think if more people had a little exposure to even slightly-better-than-average gear, they'd appreciate the benefits of listening to music even more. And after landing on my ZMF Calderas, my headphone endgame is here, and I can spend more time listening to music and less time hunting for gear.
@dasninjastix Жыл бұрын
@@TomStacy1 right on, I own 2 ZMFs myself in an Auteur Classic and Eikon (love me them biocellulose drivers) but I still consider myself more enthusiast than audiophile in that, I love the gear, but will still enjoy the music regardless. It's just fun to hear how resolved, how expansive, how dynamic you can get something to sound, to the point it's like listening to it for the first time. I think there's a slippery slope with audiophila that loses the forest for the trees and trys to abate diminishing returns for the sake of prestige but honestly I've found that sometimes less is more. Can't lose sight of the enjoyment aspect, seems like a lot of audiophiles induce themselves with anxiety, that's the wrong strategy to me. So gear is great, love gear, but imo the gear has to serve the music not the other way around. Enjoy the Caldera, they're frigging beautiful!

@@dasninjastix Exactly... I've always had a thing for the gear, but the gear is not the reason that I listen to music. When I started getting interested in headphones in 2020 I moved up in price and quality twice, but never broke the $400 barrier. I knew that if I went any higher than that I'd easily be stuck in a loop of moderately priced headphones that may or may not be any better than what I already have. When the Atrium came out, I was convinced that it would be my end-game, so I kept saving... and then the Caldera was announced. So I kept saving and got them when they launched, and I don't think I'll ever have to buy another pair in my life. The diminishing returns at this price point combined with all of the rave reviews that back up my own impressions have convinced me that I'm not missing out on anything if I stop shopping. Now the burning desire to get a tube amp worthy of the Caldera is another story...

I switch between Rock when I'm angry and reggae when I need lifting up. I am permanently unhappy and music follows me everywhere, that's how I cope, I need a soundtrack for my day.

When I am angry, frustrated, fed up, etc. I listen to Faith No More's album Angel Dust - not sure why that is my go to, but it is. Sometimes Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime. It helps bring me down of the proverbial ledge. When I'm feeling good, it's The Darkness and The Darkness elevates that good feeling.

This was really interesting. I don't think the two modes of listening are mutually exclusive. I listen to music all day every day for pleasure (6 Music mostly). But I also have playlists I have made for different moods and in different genres. So if I'm sad and want to wallow; if I'm needing to be perked up (largely Paramore based!), if I need to relax etc

Great subject and I am sure we all know it really is a thing.Sometimes you just have to hear certain music because you know it is going to do something to you even if it is in the background. I play The Darkness because I just need to hear the guys and want what their songs do to my ears and mood. Then i might just need to hear an old record by The Damned to reminisce and have the music do its thing. Then it might be The Church or Deftones. No doubt the music you like to listen too is always therapeutic In some way no matter what the genre.

I think it’s true. Seems to be able to make you happy, or if the music’s really good it makes the hairs on your arm stand up. And yeah you can get relaxing stuff or stuff to sleep to. So varied an cool. It’s hard to explain but it brings people into a sort of resonance, right? You tune into the music.

Music always alleviates anxiety and puts me in a good game of mind. A heavy beat will bring me out of a funk and yes, I’m an exercise junkie. Oddly though, it pisses me off when I’m running, silence is best then

I know of a training programme with classical music (Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi) first and language after for children (and adults) to help them concentrate and understand better, basically building the bridge between hearing and processing information in their brain. It's based on the principles of - Neuroplasticity, - Neurobiological activation: Release of messenger substances (hormones and neurotransmitters) - Multimodal stimulation of the brain (connecting brain areas that are specialised for auditory signal processing with the vegetative, emotional, motoric and cognitive systems in the human body) - And voice feedback during the language phase It helps with hearing loss, noise sensitivity, auditory processing, concentration, retention ability, attention, auditory attention and locating noises. Personally, stimulating and upbeat music has helped me with obtaining a goal that I thought I'd never obtain again, losing my excess (a lot of! ) weight while waiting to actually see this band live.

There's a passage in the Wilhelm translation of the I Ching about music having the power to release 'obscure emotions' , Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychsynthesis suggested music as a therapeutic tool, though he was scathing about jazz! I think wrongly and I doubt he was listening to Miles and Coltrane. A Guardian article some time ago reported that doctors in Turkey used music as a healing tool and there's a plethora of New Age sound healing 'modalities' out there. No doubt about it music has a capacity to heal us, mentally and physically. Listen to what makes you feel good. ❤

On my way to my last job interview, I listened to The Darkness’s “Givin’ Up”. It was in my head for the whole time but completely banished my anxiety & I nailed the interview! 😂 They offered me the job 2 hours later & I’ve been working there ever since. Best job I’ve ever had too! The Darkness have been like my good luck charm for the last 14 months or so. Just makes me love them even more 🥰
