In this video I let you hear the killer sound of the comp Mutha Thumps cam in my dads 1932 ford Hot Rod. We installed this cam into a stock crate 350 chevy that we got from jegs.com. This cam really woke up this crate motor and sounds awesome. I highly recommend this cam for your cruise in type hot rods!!!! Ill put a link below from my amazon affiliate account. You can purchase the same cam we have in our hot rod in this link . By clicking this link it helps out our channel at NO COST TO you!! Thanks for watching and God Bless Adrian at AC Designs Garage!!! I've got a 5.7 vortec I stuck the big mutha thumper cam in, i put an 800 cfm edelbrock avs2 and .125 pop-up hammers in order to get any power out of her. Im pulling around 12:1 since i went with the big chamber stock heads. I had to do that in order to really get that cam to shine, i also went with the retrofit hydraulic roller version. Later on i put a fitech throttle body injection kit on, that one is 50 cfm bigger, now I just have to build a transmission that that dinosaur burner won't break. Im still able to run pump gas in her too. I also went with 3" dual exhaust. The cam you have is very close to what the dz302 had as a solid cam, they were usually running dual quad cross ram intakes, i might find out that i will need to bring even more cfm to my dinosaur burner in order to really get everything i can from it, but i still love the idle just as much as not being able to dig around on the stereo when im launching tho, and your whip got a wicked idle, hope you enjoy yours too!!!

Big chamber heads doubt you have anywhere near 12:1

Big chamber heads, 12:1 compression, and pump gas? I smell BS. Unless you're running domed pistons, you're not making 12:1 with big chamber heads. And anything higher than 11:1 needs at least a race gas mix to not ping like hellmin warm weather

If your going to race it you get a custom converter ! Not as critical on the street !!! There are a lot of variables to choosing a converter if it's made just for your typical application !!! Mine was custom but racing only !! In the early 90s and I got it cheap for only 944$ ! Weight tire highth gear ratio trans type suspension type cubic inch compression cam card intake carb head details header size type of ignition everything !!! ATI and TCI are the best companies out there !! When I raced the most widely used was named appropriately the treemaster I think was ATI !!! Not cheap by any margin but mine was a high flash at 6300 rpm flash 8 inch !!! Consistent 60 fts on a good weather day 1.28 to 1.30 !!! On the street you want a pro street converter !! Race converter promote a lot of heat !!! A good trans cooler would be advisable !!! High heat is a converter killer !!! The hotter it is the more slip you'll have !!

I'm trying to find the right cam for a snotty idle but everything I'm running is a stock 350 from 1972 with a new Edelbrock 2101 intake and 1905 Edelbrock carb I will be running headers too. When you say crate engine from jegs I'b be curious as to the heads I don't want to have an issue where the lift is too high.

Comp cams 272 cam ! .454 lift with a duration right at the edge !! This is as high as you can go without going aftermarket parts !! Has a nice racy idle and makes good power without changing anything !! If it see me I would still put better springs in it to get the true rpm out of it ! It would be a I believe a 6000- 6200 rpm cam but probably better at 5500-5800 !! 3.73 gears would work well with about 9-9.5 to 1 compression about 34 - 36 degrees of total timing for max power !!! Stock or not factory torque converters are junk !!! I would put a 10 inch in it with about 1000-1500 rpm over factory stall !! Just my simple opinion !!! It's not about big it's about a good functioning working combination !!!

@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage Жыл бұрын
I think factory is around 1800 stall. The way to tell roughly is look at your tachometer and see what rpm ut starts to move at and that will roughly be your stall. So if it starts moving at 2000 its probably 1800 to 2000 stall.

Thumper cams are feel good cams !! Sounds great at idle but lousy to tune a carb !! Will always run fat or not right !!! A big duration cam with a tight center but lousy driveability !!! @@gordocarbo You are correct Gordo ! I didn't realize it was bone stock !! I need to pay attention better !! The thumper cam specs are all over the place !!! .490 int. - .475 exh. ??? In a stock motor that's a little high and those #s should be reversed !! 107° centerlobe ??? That is way off for the street !!! Should be 114° !!! Then the worst is 235° into - 249° exh. ??? Way too much for the street and you would need a serious converter for those #s !!! But that can makes no sense !!!!! Like a 3500 - 5800 rpm ramp ??? How do you even tune that !!!! Sounds # wise like an NHRA stock eliminator cam for a small block chevy with all that duration and that super tight center !!! Yes , the 284 - 292 - 305 are too much !!!! At least all the centers on those cams are only 110° !! The lift and duration #s are more compatible !!! A 260 - 268 comp cams can hyd would be a much better fit !!! You might be able to get away with a 272° cam too !!! With that thumper cam he'll foul out a lot of plugs and never be happy with the performance of it !!! That's my take !! He needs a performer intake a 600 cm vacuum carb and a cam range of no more then 1500 - 5500 !!!! Please give me your opinion on this ??? I'm 61 y o and ran a number of years bracket racing ! Mostly Atco Raceway started in the mid 12s and finished in the 9.0s. After 20+ years of bracket racing !!!! I miss the racing but not turning the wrenches !!!! Probmissably could still drive but my body could no longer do it !!!! I still love talking about it and miss the mingling with other drivers and track officials !!!! I do value your opinion sir !!!! I always invite constructive criticism !!!!!!

@@gordocarbo According to their profiles they are the biggest cams you can use without using aftermarket parts !!!! If that's true or not I don't know !!!! If it was bone stock on the road I never touched those ! I raced on the track and had no desire to hot rod around the streets !! Way too unsafe and I felt that way even when I was young !!! If I was ever challenged it was my race car and that only saw dragstrips where the cars get tech inspection !!! I saw bodies on the road when I was a kid !!! That was a very convincing thing for me !!!!!
