@Dave Ravies I guess I'm a bit biased towards Destroyer as it was one of the earliest records I ever heard back in 1976. It's funny how impressionable we are as children but it was ingrained in my brain after hundreds of times playing it on the hifi record player. My older brother had many rock records and as is typical in most households the older brother dominated and dictated what was listened to on the turntable. Either that or fear the impending wrath of wedgies, farts in the face after being pinned down on the floor or nuggies to the head...haha.

Rock and roll Over is so good and his 78 solo sound similar thanks to Eddie Kramer! Was never a big fan of Destroyer but Rock and roll over is Kiss at their best with the original lineup. Awesome job interviewing Ace too! Can't wait to hear him talk about the next few albums

Aces vibrato on those records was fantastic. For those nonguitar players it's a technique used mainly on solos ..shaking the string/strings to emphasize a note or notes. I'd rather here one note with sweet vibrato and feel the passion and soul behind it then some gunslinger playing at a bumblebee speed 100 notes per second.
@mysteriomarvel9334 жыл бұрын
Destroyer is a rock and roll.classic. Im biased to it since it was the first rock album I ever heard as a kid and first I played air guitar too. My older brother had the album and we played it all the time. I took it to show and tell in first grade and remember playing a few songs on the little classroom hifi record player and holding up the album cover proudly. Miss Reynolds was very kind and nonjudgmental to my record selection even though I'm sure she must have rolled her eyes afterwards..possibly at home lol
@aschule56844 жыл бұрын
Mysterio Marvel I couldn't agree more about vibrato and the power of "one note" being a guitar player myself I will often see "how much I can get out of one note" and it can be amazingly creative and powerful and such always inspires me to no end end when I hear it. That's a pet peeve I have, there are more technically proficient guitar players on the planet now than there ever was "some just kids" but, a million notes a minute for a whole song, it's exhausting to listen to and has no time to breathe. Music is all about what speaks to you personally and that's what makes us all different, many younger musicians I know feel if it isn't a million nots a minute it's boring, Zeppelins "Four Sticks" is one of my favorite Zeppelin tunes and there's "NO Solo" in the song. But anyways..........

Mysterio. That was the beauty of Ace style. U could hear and repeat out loud every note he played. He could rip it, like on his solo album but in between shredding he always was bending and stretching his leads with feeling and his own unique classic timing.

I loved Ace's solo stuff during the 80s. In my opinion his stuff was a lot better than most of the stuff KISS was releasing at the same time (after Lick it Up there were just a handful of songs on each of their 80s albums that I enjoyed, most of it not really catching my attention).

Robbie Starz yeah, I’m sure Ace played all the guitars on his solo record. Obviously you already know the only reason Ace & Peter didn’t play certain parts, or certain songs on the later albums was because they either didn’t show up or were too messed up on drink or drugs. I can’t imagine either of them pulling that crap on their own solo records. And even if they did, I’m sure their producers just would have cancelled that day’s session. I bought Dynasty when it came out, didn’t really like it, then went and bought Peter’s solo record because it was the only one I was missing. I was 11 and stopped listening to them after hearing Peter’s record. I was also into Van Halen and Led Zeppelin by then, and KISS just didn’t do it for me anymore. I got back into them in ‘94 when the covers album KISS My Ass came out. But in the mid-80’s I was into thrash & then death metal. KISS lost me for about 15 years.
@russell_szabados4 жыл бұрын
Robbie Starz yeah, I saw that in the other video, lol. I was hoping to hear about Dressed to Kill and was a little disappointed. Just wanted to say one more thing. Rock and Roll Over was recorded down the street from where I grew up about 45 minutes outside New York City. I was total fanatic at that point and a few weeks later, my dad saw an article in the local paper about how KISS had been recording at the Nanuet Star Theater earlier in the year. Dude, I was so bummed out that I didn’t know! All these years later I’m kinda glad because I prob would’ve been there every day and gotten banned or something. Lol.

Ace talked more about his solo record than Rock and Roll Over, which I personally feel to be the original band's best sounding studio album, especially the guitars. Kind of a disappointing interview; I would have loved to hear more about individual tracks, like Flaming Youth, for example. Was it Ace's idea to play that riff in 7/4 time?
