You know this thing is old when "disco" wasn't even a beat yet.

I love these! One of my all time favorites which is no longer in my possesion is the SR-88 (Soundmaster). I used to have one with a mod making it easier to program ❤

I remember Yamaha Electone C-55, Tainted love Soft Cell version, by ears, hours. But the sound quality of this Ace Tone is The tone.

Thank You. Suprisingly these vintage machines are very helpfull when you learn beatmaking. Just raw beat and your brain as a counter... That foxtrot is a good base for "Tainted Love" and beguine for Oxygene IV :D

What a coincidence, I've been studying all week rhythm boxes from the 60s and early 70s! This is one of them. One of my findings sadly is that there is little accuracy in the documentation, certainly in the samples available on the web. Instrument sets are incomplete, names are wrong, or are named very rudimentary (perc1, perc2, perc3), sets/names don't correspond with frontpanels, nor with owner's manuals. Year of introducion is often unknown, mostly '60s' or '70s. Your name appeared regularly in the back off my head as an example how things should be (your synth preset pages). And thank you, you show at least four beats of every example.

The Dixieland setting is definitely used on Wall of Voodoo's "They Don't Want Me"

Despite the years, I love the way the sounds of this machine resonate with a distinctly unique texture, making them totally worthy of revival in current productions.

I don't know how many of you know the music of Arthur Brown. Best known for hit single "Fire". In the earlyish 70s his band Kingdom Come made a brilliant album called Journey which featured this drum machine. The drum parts were credited to Ace Bentley, ( Bentley being the UK manufacturer if I remember right). Also saw him live playing it real time, fantastic show.. Check out the album. Loads of synths (ARP 2600, MiniMoog) and Mellotron. Still listen to it to this day half a century on.

Beautiful old box. Such personality. You should write a song with it! I definitely hear Suicide. Did they use the Ace Tone? Or maybe a Wurlitzer? Thanks for a great KZbin eye and ear candy.
@SynthManiaDotCom2 ай бұрын
Ha :) Suicide was a very cool band, I remember buying their first album and being into them in the '80s and playing "Ghost Rider" on the sound system at our teenager parties. I remember making an inspired video a few years ago ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4ateJeema9-pqc ), but I used samples for the drums on that one. I'll try to make a video with the Ace Tone in that vein. Martin Rev used a "Seeburg Rhythm Prince" per this Quietus interview: thequietus.com/quietus-reviews/reissue-of-the-week/suicide-debut-lp-studio-review
