Funny how the FC40 looks rosy and the XHP70.2 greenish in the video, even though the Duv values say differently. Domed Crees have had an issue of inconsistent tint over their beam, with the hotspot being rather neutral, corona being very green, and spill being pinkish, which is why I really prefer domeless Crees, because they're more consistent in tint across the beam.
@cheule2 жыл бұрын
These XHP70.2 aren’t any different really, they have pretty massive tint shift as well, but even with that tint shift they are much rosier on turbo than the FC40s. The fact that you can’t get video to show what they look like to your eye is infuriating but real. Same think happens with XP-L HI (looks yellow on video, rosy to your eye) and to a lesser extent 219b (looks rosy to your eye, and then very pink on camera-overly so). It’s basically a psycho-visual thing. Our eyes just simply do not see light the same way a camera does. And emitter manufacturer know this and use it to their advantage when they create the phosphors.

That .s why i love the Cree XPL-HI v3 emitter without any greenish titshift although a domed NICHIA 219series emitter issomuch better no greenish tints

It’s very difficult, especially with the fact that video doesn’t show the Cree emitters the way they look. We’ve noticed this issue with XP-L HI as well.

Stumbled upon your channel and subbed. I like the beam comparison with the color palette. It makes such a difference when reviewing tint and honestly the xhp looks better in my eyes.
@cheule2 жыл бұрын
💯 right. The XHP70.2 looks far better to your eyes. The FC40 looks so very green to your eyes, but it’s nearly impossible to catch on camera. This is due to the difference between how a camera records light, and how our brain interprets what we see. And believe me, our eyes do not see the same as cameras. And a lot of folks don’t realize that.

Thanks for the review. I was very curious what the high CRI one would look like. One could argue without the meter the Cree was a lot warmer. I expected the CRI version to be like the MTG2 emitter, but it’s no where near that as well. What gives over at Acebeam?
@cheule2 жыл бұрын
I actually don’t like the way FC40 looks to my eye at all. I always prefer the XHP70 80 CRI. Now, once you start photographing, or videoing, the FC40 looks much better. That’s one of the reasons this video was hard to make. But when I got to flashlight meet ups, people are always surprised how green the FC40 looks to your eye, and how great it looks in an image. The XHP70 is the opposite, really rosy in a lot of cases to the eye, and yellow on camera.
@paultruesdale76802 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the explanation. Perhaps Acebeam should illustrate this on the packaging and on the website. I’m learning all the time, but that could have been a very expensive mistake. Thanks again 👍

Unfortunately I don’t have a hook up with Imalent for a review sample. If they would provide me with one, I’d love to review it. Companies are often reticent to send out sample of expensive equipment, but to be those are exactly the ones you need to spread the word on!

Try a light that is high CRI and has the dome installed on the LED. The light emission pattern for domed leds is better in my opinion with reflectors. They make for a more even distribution. I think the reflector for a domed vs no dome led should be different.
@BlueWingedRino2 жыл бұрын
My most powerful light is the D18 and I think I went with 5K or 6K, it's been a while and I cannot recall the exact emitter. I do have a few high CRI lights and I really like them but I also like a less warm looking light and not burning my hands too. In the end though it is good to have different choices and I enjoy trying new emitters as much as new lights at times.

To CRI, or to Cree, that is the question. Tint shouldn't be a problem for the eyes to adjust to, unless you're in an environment with other light sources, but you're always going to be missing those low CRI wavelengths. Do your neighbors ever complain about the floodlights being blasted down the street? Must look like an alien abduction in some of those rooms.

It’s hard to explain until you do enough reviews, but there is a “Cree Video issue” that me and my reviewing buddies have realized. Cree emitters look yellow and weird on video, but rosy and nice in person. Basically, what you see on video looks different than it looks in person. We’ve tried over and over to get video to look the way we see it, but it’s impossible because the sensor just doesn’t work like our eyes/brain combo.

@@cheule 10-4, thats common with lower CRI light sources to change color at different shutter speeds and ISO's.. @artiet59822 жыл бұрын
I mean it makes a lot of sense the xhp70.2 Version is a lot better, it's basically comparing the most efficient LED on the market to a very inefficient LED. Inefficient in brightness, heat, and ultimately battery life. There would be no reason xhp70.2 wouldn't beat it. Based completely on use of Course Edit: that white wall shot is so crazy! It's just like XPL-hi, Because the GTFC 40 looks so much nicer on camera. But I know exactly what you're talking about of course.

Men see 20% less color than women. And still for photos there is a difference. With wider color difference you can see it, and even there you can see a difference, but lower output makes seeing color harder anyhow, so for personal use by males, it is pretty silly.

Thanks Cheule, soo much for the informative video about this. This is an amazing piece of information. I am really surprised that you, such sw45k lover, tint advocate would end up having a conclusion leaning towards anything xhp XX.2 There's something to take in consideration about these monster cans is that they are supposed to be work horses, whoever buys a flashlight like this is in probable need of lighting up an entire area at once. This requires power. Alot of it, and for that the ability to generate more light than heat is necessary, more than a little more red. And tint is often more noticeable than CRi. This is an awesome observation. I think that whoever needs photography lights may be better served with those little cat shifting panels anyways. But for the sake of light quality Improvement, perhaps the next gen of this light having the third gen of xhp70 emitters may have a significant bump in tint quality.
@cheule2 жыл бұрын
I call it code switching. There is a time and place for CRI. I just don’t need high CRI in my throwers or massive flooders. I’m going for max intensity or lumens; respectively. Now when it comes to edc or indoor lights, 100% I care about CRI.
