A5hun, I just got this new (not recertified) for $280 at microcenter (it was on sale, and they are now selling it for #19 lol), and so far I actually like it. I pair it with a 2080 ti, and soon it will be paired with a 3080. If I am able to keep it at 144 frames, do you think it would do okay? Would keeping freesync off help? I was also thinking of exchanging it for the viewsonic XG2760. I also considered exchanging it for the 32inch VA panel Samsung C32JG56. Although, the fact that 1ms VA panels are almost always 4ms GTG has me worried. I want good response times, but I am not really trying to move into the $400 price bracket.

When taking the pursuit shots, I used a bubble level to make sure the screen was at 90 degrees to the camera, and it seemed straight enough. The stand, while limited, does have tilt adjust. Are you saying you couldn't get the tilt just right?
@victorsegoviapalacios4710
@victorsegoviapalacios4710 4 жыл бұрын
@@ApertureGrille Well, I knew there are internal nuts into the stand, and I suspected those could be used to adjust the tilt a little, but I didn't want to touch that because I though the stand was pre-calibrated, but now it seems that not, they are not tilt calibrated.

This was the only monitor in europe 1440p 144 hz that i could find below 400 euros (bought it for 380 euros). I have it for a couple months already and thought it looked decent :(. What do these bad CAD scores actually mean? Will it just give a bit more 'ghosting' like you showed with the frogs (and maybe wrong colors)? This video makes me feel bad, will all this stuff you mentioned actually matter in fast reaction time games? ... that would kinda suck anyway, great video, thanks a lot for making it!
@TweeZerLEWIS
@TweeZerLEWIS 4 жыл бұрын
I really really want to like this review... BUT as this monitor is marketed as a budget "gaming" display and there weren't many games in your review it's difficult to tell why this is a "bad" monitor for the price. Color accuracy and pixel response times aside, if the display has high refresh rates and low input lag doesn't that make it a decent "gaming" monitor in games where these factors are important (CS:GO, PUBG and other FPS)? I'm just wondering if there are caveats to your very detailed and technical review of what is supposed to be a low frills, high speed budget monitor. Thanks.
@ApertureGrille
@ApertureGrille 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the detailed comment! I'll try to give a detailed answer: My review may seem highly critical for a monitor that costs $250, but $250 is still a lot of money for most people, and I don't want them wasting it on a display that isn't very good. I like your suggestion to show more games, so I'll try to add more footage in future reviews, but I think you'll find that most sites that do "proper" monitor reviews (I'm arrogantly putting myself in that category) don't really mention particular games at all. I don't want to be a review channel that opens the box, plays a round of CS:GO on camera, and then says "it seems fine!" The objective pixel response time measurements are true across every game. So whether you're playing Counter-Strike, or PUBG, or Rage 2, or The Outer Worlds, you can use those measurements to discern how the monitor is performing. There's really only one reason to buy a TN monitor: you want the best pixel response times. And that's a huge problem for the KG271U. Even though the screen is 144 Hz, at that refresh rate it's barely any better than an IPS (and, perplexingly, way worse than the other TN screen I've reviewed). And as the refresh rate drops, it keeps getting worse. Try out the pursuit images here: www.aperturegrille.com/reviews/AcerKG271U/#Pursuit-Hz And check out something I've added since the review went live: www.aperturegrille.com/charts/#InputLag The Acer has great input lag, but so do all the others :) So other than input lag, the KG271U does nothing well. The only way I could recommend this is for someone who exclusively plays graphically undemanding e-sports titles that can push past 144 Hz, and that person should also have a second, actually good monitor for general desktop usage, video, etc. This Acer only makes sense at around $160. At that price, I'd maybe give it a luke-warm recommendation for someone who is REALLY on a budget.

If a review, based on nothing except raw scientific measurements, for every single measurable aspect of display performance, is a bad review.... Then this is the worst review EVER! lol. Seriously though, imagine if there was a massive database containing all the measurements provided in this video for every monitor available. It would allow you to compare them all for any possible use case/use cases. For example: I'm going to play FPS games 50% of the time, RPG games 10% of the time, and do color critical work (photo editing, etc.) for the remaining 40%.... Now I can go in the database and determine which monitor in my price range is the most valuable to ME, given what I'm using it for. Also, showing someone playing a game in a review provides no information to the people watching.

I have this monitor and it's really good for 144hz FPS gaming. Obviously for the price I did not expect top notch performance but for $450au for 1440p/144hz it's damn good value. In the USA I'm sure there are many monitors in the same $$ range but not in AU. Doom eternal at 1440p ultra nightmare settings with my 2070 super looks amazing and I don't see any ghosting or screen tearing with freesync on and I always play with motion blur off and the game runs at 144hz.

acer kg271u monitor :How do I get rid of the blue tint overall esp in the whites ( normal warm, cool settings all have a blue bias)? there is no white colour balance setting , there are bad banding in graduations especially from hdmi input from tv set top box set at 1920 1080frame rate 50, worse in graphics programs like krita and gimp 16 bit format gradations show clear banding steps on a black and white gradation on an image 1920 by 1080 in 16 bit no gradation should show banding at all, windows start up screen shows clear banding. i can assure you my old asus ve276 from 12 years ago had none of these faults, i brought acer kg271u monitor to replace it the monitor as it stands is unusable for gimp or krita or as a tv monitor. the screen covering mesh gives all pictures a bad speckly mulicoloured appearence especially on black and white web pages and makes type very hard to read any attempt to downres to 1920 1080 means you will have badly blurred images and type way worse than any 1920 brand monitor. Try a 16bit airbush in gimp and try to see the airbrush edges shown by acer kg271u as speckly airbrush when on my old asus monitor its smooth as...i dont know wether to put up with this monitor or send it back...

the antiglare screen 3h matte on the Acer KG271U monitor causes headaches the reason is given below. literally 10 days in looking at this monitor makes you sick as your eyes are trying to see thru the antiglare shifting speckle pattern. i quote "I have now finally seen this Acer/Agon panel type (27" version) in store.... (i did not get to do that unfortunately It is even worse, than described. You dont feel the 1440 resolution at all. Spots of higher/lower brightness everywhere, a feeling like grease spots under the antiglare coating foil. The foil itself is "sparkling" because of giant grains (which also slightly split light into rainbow colors too), if feels like text moves, if you slightly move head during reading. It has much pixel and higher density than my 12 years old 1080 screen, BUT the between-pixel-distance is higher too, making me see black lines at usual view distance. " reasons why are given here Acer KG271U Abmiipx Review kzbin.info/www/bejne/eouvoKynndKqfqM

day7 well the screen is a lot worse than i thought, if say you use a white airbrush over a bright cyan blue, with either a thin or fat airbrush in gimp you literally cannot see the edges of your airbrush stroke behind the Acer KG271U monitor speckly antiglare glue pattern

Not sure if you're going to see or reply to this but this is a really high quality video, except you are using a lot of jargon which makes it hard for people who do not understand anything about monitors/video technology (which is the main demographic buying these types of monitor I assume) to follow. The weird naming of the monitors don't help either but it would be nice if you took a little more time to explain things better. This will probably make your videos get the popularity they deserve because they will be more accessible to a wider audience.

@@ApertureGrille Quick question, do you think that the coating on this monitor is bad enough for someone that knows nothing about monitors and has no frame of reference to compare it with to notice?
@ApertureGrille
@ApertureGrille 2 жыл бұрын
@@blueshorts8820 I'm pickier than most, but it's really bad. The KG271U somehow has all the bad aspects of a TN panel while having none of the benefits. Something like the Lenovo G27q is not much more expensive, but I think it'd be a much nicer monitor. Only get the KG271U if you can find one for really, really cheap.

end of day3 using Acer KG271U monitor to sum up if you make the mistake of buying this monitor as i have done you will realise you will never see any image done in ANY and i mean ANY graphics, picture editing program, or video editing program or 3d program as the makers of those programs intended as all you will see is your fine artwork image/3d render/photo retouch with a permanent glue antiglare speckle patchy overlay stuck on top that doesnt move, its like you have to look at all of your images thru that glue forever the moment you buy this monitor....the most depressing experience a computer artist will ever have.. in fact you will have to buy another monitor to know what your artwork actually looks like..my advice dont make the mistake i did.

I'm bothered by this idea that higher numbers mean a better panel. Take for example the Sony X95K 4K TV, on paper all of the numbers for contrast & brightness are far lower than the Samsung & LG equivalent yet in practice the Sony smokes them both in both departments on top of colour accuracy. Numbers don't account for much when there lacks an industry standard, it's a race to the bottom type behavior.

day 3 Acer KG271U user artist experience... i backtrack again all of what i have said is true with this Acer KG271U monitor, the antiglare coloured speckles is the only thing you will see using this monitor its like speckles blotchiness floats above whatevers on screen and because its static glue i presume its annoying as hell, the down res to 1920 is very blurred and splotchy its overall its so hard on the eyes i want to smash it to bits...acer seriously ask yourself what are you trying to do to your customers... can i remove the antiglare screen and get a better monitor if so how do you do it? Acer users get the full acer experience use the airbrush in gimp in 16 bit on any other monitor then try this Acer KG271U and wonder why you cant see the airbrush only Acer KG271U speckle sh.t....part posters video time 4.41 to 5.57 says why

lay down a blue colour in krita 16 bit, then over paint a green colour, you have only used two shades, krita has mixed 2 shades,shown on any other monitor BUT the Acer KG271U antiglare speckly sheet SHOWS you the artist multiple shades including red and yellow blotches ranging from minute speckles to large areas suspended above the krita program you literally CANNOT see or draw blended flesh or do a carpaint graduation because of this disaster.

Sorry! This video was kind of a continuation of a series of how I'm testing monitors. I can see now how it only really makes sense if you've seen the previous videos. In the future, I'll try to better introduce my testing methodology so each video can be viewed on its own. But if you're watching this, I still recommend going with a different monitor! This Acer was the most disappointing monitor I've ever reviewed.

@@ApertureGrille thank you for replying! I’ve found this monitor for a very good price (£185) on a trusted website I use. Im currently using an old acer led 1080p 60hz tn monitor. Do you think its a good upgrade for me? Considering I don’t not have enough for a budget over £200/£250. :) Btw my knowledge of monitors and testing their specs is very lacklustre, probably why I didn’t understand much going on
@ApertureGrille
@ApertureGrille 3 жыл бұрын
@@ottoc8895 That is a pretty good price! I'd generally recommend going with one of the newer QHD IPS screens, but everything in the hardware world has gone expensive. Right now I've got the ASUS VG27AQ and Lenovo Y27q-20 side by side, and they're both way better than the Acer TN, but... they're also quite a bit more expensive. It really depends on how picky you are. I might be the pickiest reviewer on KZbin, so if you're finding the KG271U to be OK, don't let me dissuade you!
