I really appreciate Sorin's no-nonsense approach to repairs... He's not there to spend your money, he's just there to make the damn thing work! ;-) I can confirm that a hinge repair with hot glue really does work... I fixed my daughter's laptop last year, after watching Sorin for the very first time... and it's still working fine! Told her the hinges would outlast the laptop's usefulness... She just recently replaced the laptop, but NOT because of the hinges! lol

I liked your video. It was educational and interesting. I also have the Acer Aspire 3 Hindge on the right side and it broke off the plastic cover. This has been an issue with Acer Aspire's going back several years. They either need to use a better casing that's stronger, or place some electronic thick grease in the hinge assembly to help it with the rotation. I simply screwed the hindges to the casing using screws I bought from home depot.

@em0_tion5 жыл бұрын
@@Oak690 Oh yeah, man, Sorin's technique is a must try for me as well. I've always used a hot glue gun at work, the cheapest and most powerful pointy chineseium - the better :D They get very hot, but you still have the small footprint of a hand tool and the precise control with the nozzle. Heat gun is easy to try since probably everyone has it, but it isn't practical cause you lack the fast control of temperature and air pressure and/or it's not fast enough, plus it's harder to just toss it when you have to squeeze some parts together right after heating them. We use a small gas-powered torch at work to reshape some human errors, it's perfect. I've done so many hindges and laptop legs... Why would anyone let their laptop slide around the desk, it's so dangerous and uncomfortable xD Plus rubber feet are way more expensive and harder to glue on and stay on. Btw i've used Weller glue sticks, they're like 3-5 $ a pop and suck balls at holding stuff together. Dollar store here sells China sticks for like $0.30 a pop! and they work better :D Sorin gave the best advice ever - experiment for yourself and learn new stuff every day ;)

I have been using the glue for a couple of years now. Not one has ever came back. Works very well. If your having problems with it then perhaps there is something your missing. Perhaps cheap glue sticks? I do have some kinda heavy duty spring clamps I use to hold it and I usually keep it clamped for at least 20 minutes. Im not under a time constraint though so I can do that. I use the gorilla glue. Great video as always Dr. Sorin :) I do see the trend with a lot of young kids today. They do not want to work. I guess they get their money from their Mother or Father and do not feel the need. That is sad because they do not understand that the more valuable you become the more your paid. Of course, It does make it really easy on us that do want to work :) . Very little competition for the jobs lol...

Thanks, i counted about 6 or more tips about how to do this with hot glue, and to avoid failure (like uneven surfaces for hot glue to grab, hot air instead of gun, do it in 2-3 layers, hot air at max temp to heat up top layer each time, loosen hinge arms, fill up the area so that the hot glue grabs on both sides of the plastic and then clamp it down ...). If any of them is missed, this will not work. And yes i want to use hot glue (or something) that will allow me to easily reopen the laptop / remove hinges if needed ...

Hey the hinges were overtightened from the factory pretty hard. And then the plastic gets crumbly with age, it's not made to last forever. Maybe an impact here and there, which put a bit of a hairline fracture in there which grew outward. Once one hinge is broken, the other will break too since that's got all the force now. It's just how it is, blame is misplaced.
