Love to Love You Baby the single was banned by the BBC, and a lot of conservative European countries. In the US Jesse Jackson and PUSH campaign against the song to have radio station not play it. Neil Bogart played the song at a party and after having many of his guests request he play the song again, he got the idea of having an longer version. Thus the 16:50 extended version appeared on her Casablanca debut in the US. It was the entire first side of the album and it revolutionized the industry. The extended single was born. The song appeared on Rolling Stones List of the 500 songs that shaped Rock and Roll. It hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts on Valentines Day 1976. Donna was promoted by Casablanca Record as the First Lady of Love, others called her the First Lady of Lust. She was kept in the boudior sort of speak for her first 3 albums with Casablanca, with Love to Love You, Try Me, ( I Know We Can Make It), and Spring Affair which were the lead singles for those 3 albums.

Heh, I'm surprised that Jeese didn't try to bed Donna. He was lowkey known for sleeping around. 😅

I was about 12 years old when this song came out, and i can remember the only time you could hear this song on the radio was after 11 or 12 at night. This was a VERY RISQUE song in 1975. 🔥🔥

This song was a massive hit in the States and was played on pop radio quite a bit. I was a kid then and I remember it being played and I was not staying up to midnight.

LOL!! Almost made you blush huh? LOL!! This was her breakout hit that propelled her career in 1975. She didn't want to record it either. She wrote the lyrics thinking another singer would perform the song but the producers liked Donna's demo and had her record it. She was embarrassed with a room full of guys and made them turn the lights down low as she laid on the floor singing, imagining how Marilyn Monroe might sing the song and just tried to get into the character. She wasn't expecting it to be a hit. There's actually a 17 minute version of the song. This is an edited version for radio, which, only played it after certain hours at night LOL!

This was very risque back in 1975 in the US but was a hit with DJ's and discos and it ultimately became a no.1 smash hit in the States and for Donna Summer. A classic , super funky world wide smash hit , a masterpiece still today !

I was 15 years old when this song came out and we'd hear it on the school bus on AM radio. That was the 1960s and 1970s--society was more nonchalant about sex than these days. It was the time of "The Sexual Revolution" or as I refer to it, "The good old days." BTW, Time magazine counted 22 orgasms on the 16:50 album version of Love To Love You Baby.

I saw her in concert in 1979 .My very first concert at age 14... (coming from a catholic school upringing ,I didnt know what to expect). All I can say is.. you had to see her perform this song live. Every guy in the audience was focused on what she was doing on that stage..Slithering sexy moves around the microphone stand ... it was mesmerizing. ..She was an incredible live performer..her voice was impeccable. Disco music was ebbing in 1979 and she was the badass ' it girl ' of our time...Way before Madonna or Beyonce..

The album version of this song is almost 17 minutes long. If you think this version has a lot of moaning... This was also sampled for the song "Freaks Of The Industry" by Digital Underground.

How about some Irene Cara finally.... had hit songs early 80s. Here the theme song of the move Flashdance and Irene literally wrote the lyrics to "What A Feeling" while in a car on her way to the studio to record it. It went on to win an Oscar for the movie song. Here live at the '84 Grammy's (not sure if you can do this video?) (LIVE) on the show singing.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJTGoWNpnZWDask She also did the hit soundtrack song for the movie and TV show - Fame. Song of the same name released in 1980. Hopefully you can get something thru in video form from Irene.

It was an album side version instead of an actual 12” single. In the early days of Disco the 12” single did not exist.

This 1975 song was her first hit single in the US but her second hit single in Europe, where her song "The Hostage" had charted high in 1974. "Love to Love You" was played on the radio a lot just as it is, and there was an even longer version with even more moaning. Summer said that they asked her to adopt a Marilyn Monroe sort of voice for the lyrics. The blatant sexuality of the song embarrassed her a little in later years.

You american are so prudish 😉 in the 70s (after the 60s sex liberation) it was a experimental, opimistic and free time. That all sadly ended with AIDS in the 80s. I was 15 when this record released and loved the extended version, a little bit embarased, but loved the synths and groove. My mom hated it 😅
