ACG Alpine and Uniqlo Blocktech Parka review

nice video. glad i got to see how blocktech faired against the acg. Uniqlo has two lairs. the first is just water repellent so it will absorb heavy rains, but the second lair which can be seen on the inside of the jacket is what is waterproof.

There are a lot of variables in this video that haven't been considered. Showers have a different pressure than rain and what type of rain is the shower mimicking. What is the hydrostatic head rating for both jackets?. Both jackets are water repellent, meaning they will repel water for x amount of time until water permeates through the membrane inevitably making you wet. But I'm sceptical about the ACG I think that has been treated with a superhydrophic coating. Verdict: purchase the Uniqlo Blocktech jacket and apply additional treating thus you will increase the hydrostatic head rating and save unnecessary expenditure.

Thank you for your input! Yeah... Now that you mention that I did not factor in those variables you mentioned. But I will definitely look into it for next time. I do believe acg is pretty good since it uses Gore-tex fabric which is the same one from Acronym. From what i have generally gathered online about Gore-Tex is that it isn't treated with superhydrophobic coating. But it is the fabric technology that is making it waterproof. That is why the acg jackets are thick and bit rigid compared to Uniqlo jacket. I think that is another reason the way acg cut for the sleeve is bit wider than regular jacket too. Uniqlo jacket also has membrane. It consist of two layers. Outer may become wet but membrane is the inner layer that guarantees the water won't touch your body. How long? Based on the features of membrane, but not the outer layer

gore-tex is not water repellent or water resistance, it is waterproof. that means no water(from rain, any rain) will get through.

@@dankmemer2774 that is incorrect. Gortex or Teflon which is made from the same as nonstick pans, has a hydrostatic head rating of 20,000mm. The highest being 30,000 milimeters.

did you soak this jacket into water during washing process? and how long you wash this jacket using hand? is it necessary to iron this jacket? i have it, but its looked messy after wash, need to iron it, but I fear it will be broke the seal

You don't need to soak it. You just delicate wash it and air dry it. Don't put into dryer or use iron because it will compromise the Gore Tex membrane. And if you feel your jacket isn't repellening water much then use nikwax after it is dried then it will be good as new! Thank you for watching my video!

Gore-tex has been around forever, so it has known qualities. All higher end hiking jackets use gore-tex. Unwell is more about city fashion, so the material will be headed for people using umbrellas or being in the rain for short bursts. You would also have to test after hand washing the jackets. They always work better out of the box versus used a bit.

I prefer my uniqlo jacket over my jackets with goretex. The material is breathable, keeps you dry and doesn't have that plastic bag feel/sound.

Yeahhh I feel that way sometime too. The material for gore-tex can be stiff at first but over time I feel like it got softer too though. But it is still harder compared to Uniqlo and Uniqlo is very compact and easy to bring around too so it all depends on the weather conditions I think.

Hi! I think you will definitely a pullover or the inner shell that came with the 2 in 1 ACG jacket or one of those puffy jacket that uniqlo sells for inside. Then it will keep you warm! I hope this helps! I just wore this in Utah where it was snowing and the acg inner shell withe the outer shell made me warm!

Any jackets will Gore Tex will definitely waterproof. Uniqlo water resistant is not waterproof.

Uniqlo Blocktech Parka very stuffy in Hong kong, very sticky on sweaty skin, just buy cheap plastic rain coat will be fine

How tall are you I’m 5’6 I think I can get a small, how warm is it in the winter. It’s hard to find that color way. If I can get it in that color I will get the mint.

I am about 5'4/5'5. I think small might work for you since I am using XS. For me it is warm enough in California. I just use this with Uniqlo heat tech and it's pretty warm. But I imagine you will need more layer if it's somewhere colder and in snow. I hope it helps!

Dr Akira Your advice helped I ended up getting a small but it was the Mens Olympic Nike ACG Alpine. It was impossible to find your jacket in a small. I only found it in a medium which is to big. I will be wearing a polo Ralph Lauren bubble jacket under it.

Tiger25NYC Brooklyn the olympic one is not the alpine, nor is it acg, it is just nikelab. It is a re-deco version of the nikelab acg 2-in-1 that came out in 2015.

How can i wash my blocktech? I just bought it 4 days ago and i don't know shit about washing water repellant jackets

I was it the same with as my goretex jackets. If your washing machine has gentle cycle use that and the cold water as well. Hot water can deterioate the waterproof coating fast. Also make sure it's just a short cycle too. You don't want the jacket to be in there too long. You can use little detergent. After it's done, hang dry it. Don't tumble dry because that can deterioate the waterproof coating too. I hope that helps! Thank you for watching my video!

It looks the top of the hood should have extended out further.

trust me, it's as far as it needs to. the hood when put over your head, fully zipped, create a funnel that shields your face from most of the rain and stuff. the hood is so extended that when you have the hood off and the jacket fully zipped, it covers your nose.

I just checked using uniqlo.com/us. I do not think there are huge noticeable appearance difference between those two SKU. However, I think the 404362 is the first generation Blocktech Parka, since the inseam of 409312 looks a lot better and it has more color variations. But the material and function for both of them are pretty much the same from the looks of the website.
