Here we go with another meals of the week video. For sure I love to watch meals of the week videos, too. I get new ideas, new ways to use basic ingredients and even a reminder of favorite meals that we haven't had in a loooong time. My recipes can be screen shotted; I don't mind one bit. I also have cookbooks for sale (both volume 1 & 2) and the link to buy them is down below. Also during July any cookbook order will be shipped with a FREE sticker set.
For more info on low carb and fat adapted check out this video or her entire channel. • Put Fat Loss on Autopi... Dr. Becky knows how to break down the research into perfectly understandable bits of information and present it in a gentle way. She's very much about health and reasonability, not just fads.
Are you into stickers on your water bottles and laptop cover? I have stickers in my shop. The #stillmowing sticker is there as well as my complete set of stickers. Check them out here. www.acountry-l...

Hi friends! I'm Jennifer, a fifty-something wife and mother of 7 children ages 10 - 26. We are Catholic. We homeschool. We cook from scratch. We farm cranberries. We drink coffee. We advocate for Down syndrome awareness. We are loud. We are chaotic.
Here I'll share vlogs about all these things, what I'm doing that works and what I've tried but didn't work. I hope to encourage you in your journey through motherhood, homeschooling, learning to cook, and growing in your faith through it all.

Something I have heard of but have never tried making is beurre manié (French "kneaded butter") to thicken a gravy. It's kind of a cold roux--you make a paste of equal parts by volume of soft butter and flour and knead them together, then add them to your hot liquid. It keeps lumps from forming. You can make extra and store it in the refrigerator for up to a month or longer in the freezer. If you make gravy frequently, it might be considered a convenience food!

I was going suggest just this, I do it all the time, works great especially when that gravy isn’t quite thick enough.

Jennifer, I love your videos! I'm a 63 year old woman from scratch cook, baker and love making desserts. My Dad passed away April 6 (I'm my parents caregiver) Dad was my taste tester, idea maker, lol. I've been watching some of your cooking videos, and I was able to bake a red velvet cake and actual a whole meal ( with veggies). My mom and hubby have been so sweet. It had been so hard, but I wanted to say thank you

I pretty much love your videos no matter what you're doing Jennifer. I appreciate that you make them longer than some of them that are out there. I am tired of living in an abbreviated rushed world so I enjoy being able to listen to a longer video. How you manage to upload the longer ones is beyond me given your limitations there. Know that it is appreciated. The grocery hauls help me to know little snacks and things that might be out there that I can have too, the food ones are always fun for me even if you make something you've made 40 bazillion times before. Those help to establish the basic structure of life. The homeschooling ones bring me great joy as I see the family learning to learn. A lifelong desire to learn is what makes for true education and for a degree of satisfaction that non-learners wouldn't understand. I just enjoy listening to you. I find your voice soothing. During periods of terrible stress such as I'm under right now with a an illness that's taking a while to treat, it's very nice to find one of your videos and put it on to be soothed. Now I know the kids are going to roll their eyes if you read this to them. They're going to roll their eyes and go "Puhleeze" but that's their job for now. One day they will understand. Thanks a bunch.

Cook my ribs the same way, low and slow. I still use crisco, a lot of recipes wouldn’t be the same without it. I just made an angel food cake, my family loves it, I’ve never tried a box mix, with the cost of eggs and how good yours looks going to give it a try.
@acountrylife

Warren’s birthday came just a few months after we married and I had a lot to learn in the kitchen. I knew my grandma would make angel food from scratch and then make a golden yellow cake with all the yolks. Anyway I was reading the directions in the old Betty Crocker cookbook and it seemed like more than I could do so I called my mother-in-law asking for pointers because she made Angel food a lot; that’s when she confided that she always used a boxed mix and that’s what I’ve done ever since.

Each to their own of course but the best method for weight loss I have found is intermittent fasting. I don’t eat after 7pm at night, have one meal at dinner and eat what I want during that one hour window. I only drink water or black coffee as everything else will break your fast. Well there’s a few drinks like green tea that won’t but I don’t like that. Happy Birthday Sam welcome to adulthood (it’s rubbish)

50 -60 carbs a day is a lot. One carb is 15 grams. The nutritionist told my husband he should have 3 carbs per meal (45 grams) plus 1 carb for morning, afternoon, evening snacks totalling 3. For the day that is a total of 12 carbs a day. That is 180 grams.

One gram of carbohydrates = 4 calories. I don't count calories, but I do keep track of my carbs and all my research shows that 50 grams of carbohydrates a day works for me.
@eileenhuntoon87
@eileenhuntoon87 Ай бұрын
@@acountrylife that doesn't make sense. Fifty grams of carbs is slightly over 3 carbs. That equals approximately about 1 and 1/2 slices of the average bread.

I am so paranoid of cooking anything that doesn’t have an expiration date. I have friends that do canning but how do I know how long the stuff is good for? I mean like turkey broth can that stay good if you can it for a year?

Most canning lid boxes say the food is good up to 18 months.

I love your videos, but honestly. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from. I have a degree in nutrition and a 2000 Calorie diet recommendation is Based on your individual health needs. And is always to have between 45 and 60 gm of carbohydrates daily. 275 gm of daily carbs would send your blood sugar off the charts, and you would end up with horrible diabetes., so I would love to hear what source you are getting that information from?? If you resource the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition, you would get much more reliable science based diet therapy info ❤

Hi Kathy, I copied and I'm pasting straight from the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition website: Recommendations for carbohydrate goals will vary from person to person. For someone who eats 2,000 calories a day, an RDN may recommend that one meal contains about 45 to 60 grams of carbohydrate - or three to four servings of carbohydrate. This may vary depending on how frequently a person plans to eat throughout the day. It's recommending 45-60 grams per meal. Times that by 3 meals per day and that's 135-180 grams of carbohydrates per day, which for my body is way too many and causes my blood sugar to spike and the sugar cravings to increase. I share my situation and thoughts here on A Country Life and hope that those listening do their own research.
