From what I've been told they were originally going to do just one sequel film, but found the plot they had for it really snowballed out in scope until it was wayyyyy too big to do as one movie. So they basically just took a four-hour movie and split it into two parts, and I think that explains the end result quite well. I went into this knowing it was not a complete story, so I wasn't too bothered by it. Just gotta wait and see if they stick the landing, which I have a strong feeling they will.

I think the problem with where they left off is that as much as I LOVE the Gwen portions of the film, they didn't really do the best of job setting up what clearly was supposed to be the bookends of ATSV. Gwen's story. The film starts with Gwen's narration, including flashes of what's to come. And it ends with Gwen's narration, showing how far she's come. Gwen does generally have A full circle Arc, even if there is more to come with her. And while Miles is given absolutely stellar moments in his conflict with Miguel, its Gwen who ultimately gets the stinging line against Spider Society as a whole in "we're supposed to be the good guys". As well as potentially finding a way to change their canons safely with her dad. And while none of this bad in the slightest, it is a bit clunky. As its not the clearest that that is what this story was supposed to be. Gwen recounting the story as ATSV's Deuteragonist up to that point. As part of her own journey to "Find her place, and find her own Band". Its not that ATSV doesn't have A complete story arc. It in fact does. Its just Gwen's, not Miles'. But its not the clearest about that. Though, given the way the movie is created, if they really stick that landing with BTSV, it will enhance this already very good movie retroactively and smooth out its flaws.
@kbreezy1581
@kbreezy1581 Жыл бұрын
This is a great comment. A lot of people act like ATSV didn't have a complete story but it did. But if this many people were confused about it then maybe the movie could've made it clearer. I disagree with just stop's statement that the movie didn't climax .

Yeah, save for the very beginning and their interactions filtered through Miles coming to the Society, the only thing we had that hinted at Gwen and Miguel's relationship was how she spoke about him to Miles, despite the fact that that relationship affected both of them. You could tell how torn Gwen between her duty and her desire to reconnect with Miles because Miguel not only helped her out of a bad spot, but also gave her a sense of purpose and a place where she wasn't alone. One of the precious few moments of humanity in Miguel was him recognizing how alike he and Gwen were and taking pity on her (as well as being shown to find her to be a very competent fighter after the battle with Vulture.) And the way he reacted to her parting words showed him that she felt some connection with her. His first "We are" was very quiet and gave off the impression that she had rattled him and he was trying to convince HIMSELF that he was in the right. That's not something Miles would have been able to do since Miguel didn't have a relationship of any kind with Miles. But most of that is just speculation and gleaning information from what we're being TOLD, and very little of what we were actually shown. If I'm correct and the third movie has a Miguel focus then I hope we get more about his relationship with Gwen that explains more about why she felt loyal to him and didn't really view him as a bad dude until Miles came along, and why Miguel was shaken so much by Gwen's words.

No matter how wierd it was the memory of me and a bunch of other people (including 2 friends i somehow made in the theatre in less than 5 minutes) just going "WHAT?!" and staying through the entire credits as a mix of coping, processing what happened, and hoping there was a post credit scene. I had this exact same issue with the movie too! A lot of it just felt like set-up/rising action lacking a clear conclusion and I left the theater feeling like a lot of plot points were unfinished and unresolved. Again, yeah it makes sense since this is just part one of a longer story, but especially because of those last 30 minutes or so it doesn’t feel like it can stand on its own as an independent project in the same way the original can. (That being said it was still amazing and blew me away and I can confidently say it’s my current fav movie of the year so far)

For a warning, this is major spoilers for the ending so don't read below Though the cliffhanger is making me excited for the sequel, I feel like a perfect ending would've been either A. Miles being sent home but the camera focusing on Earth 42 on the screen or B. Miguel entering Miles earth and then the post credit scene focusing on the send home device and it showing earth 42 or something, it in my opinion would make sense as a cliffhanger but also leave people on the edge of their seats. If you disagree then thats fair, I just feel like its less abrupt but still leaves room for Beyond the spiderverse

In my opinion, I think they let the movie go on maybe 5 minutes too long. I feel if they had cut at the point to where he had just gotten 'home', and maybe still having the shot of Gwen assembling the crew, it would've left a bit more of the mystery of where he ended up while still having that kind of hopefulness that Empire Strikes Back and Back to the Future 2's cliffhangers had. But that's just my opinion of course.

I think it's a really bold choice to end it on such a sudden cliffhanger, and while I don't think it makes Across the Spider-Verse have a satisfying ending, I think it _will_ make Beyond the Spider-Verse start out that much stronger. It's not a weak ending because it's so sudden, it's a weak ending because it's _not_ the ending - you just only saw _half_ of the story. To make a long story short I want them to release a supercut of both movies that's 4 hours long and rivals James Cameron's Avatar

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is an annual plant of the family Asteraceae. It is most often grown as a leaf vegetable, but sometimes for its stem and seeds. Lettuce is most often used for salads, although it is also seen in other kinds of food, such as soups, sandwiches and wraps; it can also be grilled.[3] One variety, celtuce (asparagus lettuce), is grown for its stems, which are eaten either raw or cooked. In addition to its main use as a leafy green, it has also gathered religious and medicinal significance over centuries of human consumption. Europe and North America originally dominated the market for lettuce, but by the late 20th century the consumption of lettuce had spread throughout the world. As of 2021, world production of lettuce and chicory was 27 million tonnes, 53 percent of which came from China.[4]

The issue is the film doesn't really have an ending, it just stops. The 'ending' didn't really give an indication about what's to come (for example the ending of Two Towers showing Mount Doom and the long journey the Hobbits still have to go). And considering the next film is only a year away, they really should have put a trailer for it at the end of the film. Instead, the film feels like watching a film on TV as a kid, and then your parents turn the TV off mid movie because you have to go to bed.

I think another things is that Miles’ and the Spider Society’s objectives overlap, but they don’t realize that for some reason (at least more on the Spider Society’s part). Like they talk about the fact that they have this dimension hopping demon on the loose who was actively seeking a way to power up, he gets said power up and immediately ditches the scene. Miles doesn’t realize the true meaning of his premonition until he learns of the Canon events at which point he connects the events to the Spots’s threats. Then the SS society at the behest of Miguel hound Miles for trying to stop his dad’s death despite the fact that the SS trying to stop the Spot and Miles trying to save his dad are two sides of the same coin. Or am I overthinking this.

To me personally, this film also had some minor pacing issues that felt just out of place enough to break my immersion for a moment. And overall, it just doesn't feel as sharp as the first, if that makes sense? So many things happen and none of them stand out in my memory bright enough. If i'm asked about what are my favorite scenes from part 1, i'm immediately torn between at least 5. My only problem with the movie is that characters eem to only "glitch" when it's relevant to the plot. Can someone, please, explain to me why they glitch at extremely random intervals for example never when they're in combat but when miles is in earth 42 it's frequent and then later in earth 42 it just stops. Why?

I definitely see where you’re coming from. Although I didn’t mind the ending, it was definitely drawn out a bit longer than it would’ve probably been if the rest of the story just played after. And looking back on it, they probably didn’t give as much screen time to the Spot so that everything else could have more focus as a primary conflict. I heard that they removed certain scenes from the movie with the Spot, which I do find a little unfortunate, but if they kept the end credit scene (which I actually saw a suggestion that they could’ve made it the start of the next film which would’ve worked really well), I think it would’ve undermined the ending of this part a bit. Putting the focus away from the Spot made the ending more impactful as although he is an impending threat, there is a lot more to this story.

It makes sense why they split it into two but yeah, people who were saying everywhere that it wasn’t ‘half a movie’ kind of felt like they just wanted to heap more praise onto it since it truly does so much expertly, but there’s too many loose threads at the end of part 1 for it to feel truly satisfying. That’s fine as a part 1 but as an experience where I have to wait for the next part, it admittedly sucks. Once part 2 is out that problem will essentially be dealt with though for any future viewers.

I dont really know how to feel, I totally get your point but after I watched the movie, I was both hyped and intreeged by the ending, so much that ill try my best to be on day one when beyond comes out but I do see your points. However I think Peter's kid will play a bigger role in the sequel rather then its appearance and the small touching scene when Peter wanted to help Milles escape/understand his faith. The pregnancy... idk might be an end movie reveal or Smth but I liked the ending a lot, the curiosity as gwen clashed her band to help miles save his father. Mighelle and the other 2 trying to find Miles while he is stuck with his evil counterpart that is going to (hopefully) fight against in the next movie. Like im so hyped and since its a sequel they will have MORE then enough to fit in a concluding and nice story.

Yeah, we'll be waiting a good while before the conclusion.

I mean she served as a mentor figure for gwen and it’s not like she took away screen time from anyone else really. When she was on screen it was because someone else’s plot was being advanced. So removing her would also add nothing to the story, but you would lose a pretty interesting character in Miguel’s No.2

@@nivensmctwispo they should’ve made Miguel the mentor which would’ve propped him up as a threat to Miles by being the one who essentially stole Gwen from him. Yeah she undermines Miguel at the start when he’s being a badass by pausing the plot by explaining how much better she is whilst in dangering her unborn child! Now that is true but they literally made up their own character with reference on a comic book that was universally hated. Now back to what I was saying about how she was forced in. Her personality is bent by the plot, backing Gwen up when the plot demands Gwen right (before going to Indian Spider’s world) and vise versa (when Gwen is sent back at the end)
@nivensmctwispo
@nivensmctwispo Жыл бұрын
@@holty1314 Some interesting points, however I do disagree imo. I think that setting up a reason for Miles to dislike miguel by ‘taking away’ Gwen from him would only cheapen his rebuttal against Miguel and the spiderverse, because his reasoning behind why he’s going against Miguel isn’t just to save his family and prove that he can do both, but also becomes going against Miguel as revenge for Gwen, or atleast that’s how I could see people interpreting that relationship. Also, Miguel didn’t want Gwen in the team so Jessica was needed to get Jessica into the group. Alongside that, she doesn’t spend her whole time defending Gwen, as she only protects her once, when she wasn’t watching the spot. After miles gets out of the Spiderhub, Jessica actively tells Gwen that it’s up to Miguel now, she doesn’t try to protect her at all. But once again that is just my opinion and I’m sure there are ways to write the story without her in, but I don’t personally think enough is solved to warrant removing an interesting character and 2nd hand to Miguel from the movie

I remember being in the theatre opening day of the movie and when it got to the "to be continued" part everyone in the audience just looked around confused and bewildered because it felt like the last 30 minutes of the movie had just been sliced off from it, this movie has no actual conclusion and dropped the ball at the very end because of it, the perfect analogy for this movie I've seen was akin to the rebels flying towards the death star for the finale of the movie and then cutting to a "to be continued" text and ending right there, it doesn't matter if this is just a part 1 it *needs* to have its own satisfying conclusion, Star Wars and LOTR worked this out decades ago for crying out loud. Dropping the "Part 1" from the title was the absolute worse decision they could've made with this movie, as atleast going in people would've atleast known they weren't getting a complete story, never the less having a Part 1 movie without its own conclusion to the 140 minutes of time we spent watching and getting invested is just stupid beyond comparison.

Most of my complaints come down to personal nitpicks that don’t really affect plot or characters, like I would have loved to see some PS1 and 2 Spider-Men with that video game joke, and Madam Web was sadly missing, however I do have one major complaint, that may or may not be valid, depending on what the next movie does. That being (SPOILERS): I really don’t think Miles should be able to find another way. If he finds another way, other than not altering the canon, then that will effectively undermine literally every other Spider-Man ever. It will put Miles on a pedestal. The character is already the center of enough debate, in regards to how he may or may not step on the toes of the legacy of Peter Parker, but to have him just legitimately outsmart every other Spider-Man ever, when it comes to saving lives, is just going too far. I think Miles should fail, and he has to learn that some things, like death, are simply inevitable, and we just need to learn to appreciate the time we have. But the tropes of movies like this say that he’s going to find a way, and I just truly think that would be to the detriment of the narrative. But, overall, 9/10

I've had the same concerns ever since the full trailer dropped. Spider-Man is usually portrayed as one of the greatest heroes around, someone who always beats the odds. So if even they think that what Miles is trying to do is impossible, there should be a good reason for it. If they have Miles succeed, it'll feel like they're not just saying that he's worthy of being Spider-Man, but that he's _better_ than other Spider-Men, which would not only devalue the rest of them, but make it feel like they're trying to push the character too hard. Hopefully they'll manage a conclusion that I find satisfying, like maybe Miles does save his dad, but there still has to be a sacrifice of some kind to keep everything from going tits up.

As per watch?v=AdaDtrcN3-4 It also make sense with the world we are in now with how easy it is to access and enjoy media, and with how popular Into and Across was, Theaters have a chance on the release on Beyond to rerun both Prequels (I really hope they do). Change the game, change the way execs and corpos get thier money, allow more develop time and reap the rewards on multi runs of the movie. If they don't take that from this its just stupid fail on ceo/exec part.

The ending was fine because I was lucky enough to be spoiled that "it ends on a massive cliff hanger" so I was able to brace my expectations. I'd rather the film be split the way it was than cut to a single film losing stuff or at a less impactful scene. The ending to me felt fine because it sets up shit will be going down hard in next film but I can see why ending on a crescendo would bug people. My actually gripes for it are both audio based. 1. In some scenes especially early on it was noticeably distracting how they were in intense combat but talking like they were chilling at someone's house. Would've been more immersive if there was straining in their voice to time with their swings/kicks but not sure if it was purposely done to make it easier to hear the lines. 2. I hate they carried from the 1st movie with the music. The volume will be fine with scenes where they're talking then it switches to a transition scene with music blaring at what seems to be 2-3x volume the conversational pieces. Was annoying at home, even more annoying at theatres where you can't adjust volume.

With the fact that they are setting up 5, that's right, FIVE different situations happening all at once, this movie can't simply be done all in one. The cliff hanger honestly, and I mean it in the best way, ends like a cliffhanger would in the comics. AND it also has the same feel that Infinity War's cliffhanger had... well, at least in my opinion.

ill be honest and say that this film, while feeling like a part 1, still feels like a complete movie. miles' story may not be finished but gwen's feels story felt like it had a very satisfying end to it and with her coming around to being able to trust the people around her again and not being closed off by "getting the band back together." miles arc also feels complete but still feels like there will be room for growth. miles starts off by everyone telling him his own story when he realizes that he needs to create it for himself, leaving for a satisfying arc for this particular movie. i imagine in the next movie, he will need to come to terms with something which stems off this part like him having to learn that the things that happen in your life is what makes you unique, like all the other spidermen.
