I cannot express how thankful I am to you. My system shut down in NC during this 100° heat wave. Turned out the system in the attic was filled with water. I sucked out the water with a shop vacuum and it fired back up again with no issues. Tomorrow I will cut the evap pvc pipe, clear it out amd use pvc unions to reconnect it. Sir, you saved me a fortune. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the tutorial, my A/C went out on one of those 100 degree days, my HVAC guy was out of town and I would of had to wait three days til he got back. I don't trust just call any repair services from my experiences with dishonest or over charging, so I stick with one company I trust, anyways I changed my capacitor on condenser, still didn't work, when you mentioned checking the thermostat by jumping the connectors nothing happened, then I went up into the attic (100+) I found the condensation safety switch in the drain pan was a little tweaked, realigned it and cool air was back, thank you very much you saved me a lot of money and being miserable for days in 100+ temps!!!!!

Never would've guessed something as simple as the condensate safety switch. Used my shop vac to remove the water from the pan and the unit instantly kicked on! This video was very helpful. Thanks! 👍👍

Thank you AC Service Tech and @soccerplayahershey. Had issue with thermostat not being on, replaced battery and still nothing. Water in pan was at the top and could see damp areas nearby. Wasn’t comfortable around the system especially with water and electricity but after reading @soccerplayahershey’s comment I went down, turned circuits off and shop vac’d the water out. Success! Thank you so much, I have air flowing on this hot day in August. Just to show a woman in her late 60’s can make things happen. Very happy.

I couldn’t find a video to where the inside blower and the outside unit wasn’t working and I almost didn’t watch this video but I’m so glad I did, I started by using a jumper wire at the thermostat and nothing so I checked the control board and remembered I use to see a green led light on the board, so I pulled the 5amp fuse and BINGO! I already had an extra fuse on hand. Thanks for the video!

Yo I've been stressing about my condenser shutting off for the past 24 hours. We had my gf's mom over yesterday for a labor day grill and the ac stopped working! I panicked and spent some time in the heat trying to figure out what could be wrong. i woke up today, hot, and worried that I would have to replace my entire unit for thousands of dollars...was about to call an AC company but decided to watch this video. When I got to the part about replacing the batteries in the thermostat I scoffed, but figured its worth a shot at least. There's usually an indicator that says low battery, but since you convinced me to try it, I changed them despite the lack of any indication of them being low. Imagine my relief and joy when I walked outside to a spinning fan in my condenser. Thank you sir, you probably just saved me from someone trying to scam me into buying a whole new unit. I've been laughing with relief since. Thanks for the video!

The tip about the switch was super helpful. Our A/C condenser dumps water into our sump. When I replaced the sump pump, I must have pushed water back into the system causing the switch to trigger. Although the switch is different and doesn’t have a reset, I was able to twist the switch allowing the water to drain and move back to the original position. The A/C started right up. Thanks for the great video!

Great informative video very much appreciated. My Tran AC stopped working a few days ago in the middle of high heat. Since I had changed the capacitor before, I rechecked the capacitor and found it to be the correct value. Checked the low voltage and found out that 27V is missing. It was challenging to find the source and it happened to be the safety switch on the swamp pump!!

Excellent instructional video. The internal low voltage fuse was blown due to a rookie mistake on my part. The condensate pump wasn't working so I swapped it out without killing power to the entire unit (I did unplug the pump). Somehow, power found its way to the LV fuse & killed power to the main board. Now I have spare fuses but won't make that mistake again.

I have a question I diagnosed my AC system from watching this Video. and figured out. It’s the thermostat. My system is combo AC & Heat. I jumped the Red & Yellow wire together. So now the AC and the blower are working but the AC compressor is not turning on. As to before I jumped the 2 wires together the AC unit would not turn on at all. So I am assuming that based on the video that I need to jump Red Yellow Orange and green together?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

If the condensate line is clogged and triggers the shut off, will just clearing the clog be enough? Or do you need to do something to reset the trigger switch? Mine was clogged, I cleared it, poured water down the drain and it stays clear, but the AC won't come back on. Originally, I happened to be walking by the hall closet where the unit is (1969 house) and I heard some clicking, shortly after the AC went off. So I checked the Safe-T-Switch, which I normally pour vinegar down 4 times a year - but hadn't in at least 3 years.

Looling for suggestion: AC unit went out and the capacitor was changed on the first service visit. Was told need a new unit but Choice warranty approved to change the compressor instead. Ok, compressor was changed yesterday and house back cooling. Here's the issue, the air filter needed to be changed so I head up to attic (turned off AC at thermostat) and changed the filter. Turn thermostat back on to cool, and the AC unit outside never kicked on. Checked breaker and everything and still does not come on. Any suggestions on what it could be? Serviceman cannot come back out until next week. 😩 Thanks in advance,

What would be common problems for BOTH indoor and outdoor units not running? I turned air off but forced fan “on” and it doesn’t blow. Outdoor unit never kicks on. Does the thermostat directly control outdoor unit or does that signal pass through the indoor unit first? Meaning, can a problem with the indoor unit (like a condensate drain) also cause the outdoor unit to not come on?

Just to mention I learned about the word tau , and the capacitor charges up and then discharges in 5 tau. ! 1 tau. 2. Tau. 3 tau. 4. Tau. and 5 tau The capacitor will start a motor up in 5 tau then the contact will close if I remember really well ! The capacitor and contact combination are a parallel combination in series with one leg of the motor or one hot wire!

My ac unit at this rental looks older than anything you've showed. Their is a pvp pipe coming out, but it's just ran down the side, and then parallel to the ground, down to a drain in my basement. Not scorching yet but it is almost 80 and ac unit won't work. Landlord said he will get someone out here tomorrow. Worst part is I absolutely can't sleep when I'm hot. I keep it around 65-67 when I'm going to sleep. 😪

I had a new fan motor and capacitor replaced just over a year ago and am having the same issue. When I first turn on the cool setting, the compressor would kick on and try to start for about 5 seconds then shuts off. Only the fan would stay running. I need to shut off the thermostat and wait a few minutes to try again. Then on the 2nd attempt, the compressor would stay running and continue blowing cold air. Is it a possibility that the capacitor has gone bad in such a short time?

Oh the nest the number #1 issue with those are the common wires not being connected at the time thermostat or at the air handler or period due off factory charge . I always check to see if common is connected, not recommended but I grab a little piece of wire and barely touch r and c to see a little spark (ounce again not recommended) keeps you from going in air handler attic up stairs etc …. You know common is connected SO I then hook it to the thermostat or connect it at the board air handler etc..

Hi! Thanks for this video. In the past couple of months, sometimes when we push the thermostat down a few degrees, it won’t trigger the on. It’ll flash “cool on” but the AC doesn’t turn on. I then turn off the system and then reset the circuit breaker. When I turn it on again it starts working. It doesn’t appear to be a condensate drain line problem as water isn’t backed up. Also, the unit is only 2 years old, got it installed a couple of years ago. Do you have a sense of what this could be? I don’t understand why it always works after resetting the circuit breaker for AC. (The breaker doesn’t appear to be tripped when I reset.)
