Since the licence fee isn't a legal requirement the BBC should not be allowed to use the term "enforcement visit". That should be replaced by "sales visit" written in blue rather than red.

Hi Chilli - End of last year I tried to cancel my partners licence on the phone. After waiting ages and ages for someone to pick up the guy told me cancellations have to be done on the internet on their website. I lied a bit and said I don't use the internet and his response was there was nothing he could do over the phone and I had to use the website and hung up on me. The website is an absolute nightmare to use to cancel the licence and something I never want to do again. Everything is hidden and worded very carefully to trap you and have you going round in circles. I finally got it done but had no idea at the same time if I actually had because they said they would be in contact within the next few weeks to let me know if I had been successful in cancelling my licence. My partner said she would have never managed to do it and that's what the BBC rely on. I cancelled my own licence years ago and it wasn't hard in the slightest. Perhaps you could make a video on how to navigate their website to help people out. Peace

4 years ago I had a guy knock on the door, he said he was here to read the the electric meter, he showed me his ID, I let him in, once in the kitchen he read the metre then said with hessitence that he was also here to check my TV licence, I was watching game of thrones on now TV at the time, I grabbed his and physically threw him out, i was so angry he got a dig for his troubles, next day police came I said he was full of it and nothing more was said, to this day I've had no issue, but now watch live TV, I felt bad giving him a dig but sod it he came in under false presences. 3 weeks later was at my parents and the same guy was at the door, my dad knew nothing of what happend but when he walked in I just smiled at him, he walked out

Jon. I got a visit. I don't have a door cam so will try to describe it. When I opened door he showed I.D and told me `Television Licensing` As he was about to ask (I presume) if I was the `occupier?` I just politely said "No Thank You" as you advise and closed the door- plus bolting it. He then proceeded to knock another three or four times, the last pretty loudly. I had gone upstairs to watch for his departure and could just hear him utter something, but as I was upstairs and window closed I just could not make out what he said. What do you think of that? I sent you a copy of the letter that precedes this one, the "10-Day Window" one. It contains many assumptions that the recipient is breaking the law. It says, right off the bat, that they are, "giving you a 10-day window to get correctly licensed." Later on, also in red bold, it reads, "You ONLY have until 13th January to act before this window closes." The gist was to say that as you don't have a licence they are putting your case "on hold" so you can buy one. They have no idea (and I'm never going to tell them) what the TV situation is here at Hippie Towers. They can take a running jump. I laugh at these scary (not) letters and their fruitless door knocking.

The courts are only available to people with the money to pursue such things, and since legal aid has all but gone the law is simply unavailable to those they target, and they know it, it's also why they continually pursue but rarely go to court if there us any doubt they'll fail.
