That's not a great example. If you have a car it is assumed that you need to pay the tax unless you tell them with a Statutory Off Road Notice that you don't drive it on roads. If the TV Licence worked the same way you would have to send in a Statutory No TV Notice to not pay the TV licence.

I've been living in my flat for 13 months now and not one person from TV Licensing has knocked on my door, despite all the shi**y letters I've received from them telling me they're coming for a visit, which go straight in the bin. I would encourage everyone who receives one of these letters to do what I do and report the letter to the police. Get your local stations number from the web, don't use 101 or 999, and ring them and say you've received a letter demanding money from you and threats have been made that make you fear for your safety, be insistent and get a crime reference number. My thing is right, if you feel something upsets you nowadays you have a right to complain to the police whether this be something said to you, in a letter put through your door, or even if something said online upsets you. We have to turn this woke bulls41t back on the very people who push the narrative at us, this includes law enforcement, who will happily turn up to enforce a Capita warrant, or TV licensing. Report them and get a crime number, play the victim and force them to change the letters, make them back down and stop bugging innocent people.👍👍👍👍👍

I've not needed a license for over five years, and finally went license free back in 2020. I did the declaration, all above board, but I still get the threatening letters. As Jon rightly says, they are worded and presented to create the maximum fear. However, once you've had four or five of their increasingly shrill letters, what Jon says repeatedly on here really sinks in, they are impotent. The letters may get more threatening, but the more they threaten, the less those threats worry you, because they are entirely empty. Go license free, do the declaration or not, but do not worry about the letters whatever you do.

Had a so called detector van parked on my street for 3 nights. This van was a Mercedes sprinter, covered in rust and dents. We moved house in July. There were8 unopened letters here. To the occupier. I binned them. Last month...goon at the door. You haven't replied to our letters...They weren't addressed to me. Can I come in and check you're not receiving live TV. No. Why?. Stranger danger and I'm vulnerable. He said I'm sure you're honest but 1 in 8 tell the truth, the others like. If you don't let me in I'll come back. He did. Last week. I didn't open the door. Completely red letter left. I truthfully do not and have not watch live tv. They have no legal right to visit your home. They do visit under an 'implied' right. However you can withdraw thatc mplied right by notifying them. If they visit you after being notified they are trespassing. I recently received a letter saying that my exemption from requiring a TV licence expires in December and I had to renotify them that I do not need a TV licence. I looked on line and noticed on the form it cannot be submitted UNLESS you tick a box saying "I understand I may receive a visit to verify my claim that I do not need a licence." In other words I agree to them visiting me! I did not submit the form I wrote by recorded delivery explaining. I notified you in 2018 I did not require a TV licence. I also withdrew the implied consent for you to visit my home. Nothing has changed. They point out "we may use alternative methods to detect if you are viewing programs without a licence." Fine..detect away there's nothing to detect but if you visit my home without a warrant you are trespassing. To obtain a warrant they need to convince a magistrate they have reasonable grounds to believe I am watching programs for which I require a licence. Me telling them I do not need a licence does not constitute reasonable grounds. It's high time Capita and it's staff be held to account for their tactics.

I have a notice on my front and back door saying no cold callers or junk mail. One of these goons knocked on my door, when I answered the door I asked him if he could read and if so why he still knocked on my door and closed it. He then posted a letter through the letter box. So without opening the letter I opened the door and handed it back to him, telling him it was obvious he couldn’t read and explained to him what the notice said and not to comeback or post anything again as it will be returned to TV Licensing unopened.

I had the knock at the door last week. Yes, I opened the door. Man wearing black jacket with white lettering (TV Licen…g) fumbling for ID: “I’m glad I caught you in” Me: “No thanks, no thank you” Closed and locked door. This after 11 letters, only first one opened, dated February 2022, others not opened. I should get my next letter next month. How sad, what a pity, never mind.

Several years ago my vehicle insurance was via Hastings Direct. When I found a better deal elsewhere at renewal time they started firing threatening letters at me demanding that I fill in a form to explain myself! I responded to the third letter by writing UCK FOFF(or similar) across the form in thick black permanent marker. Didn't hear any more from them.

I keep all the letters I get as evidence of the tactics, just in case. I 've had one of those letters through my door when they visited, I work nights and was in bed, heard the dog barking but turned over and went back to sleep, best thing is don't answer the door to strangers, I have a porch and if I don't know them, I just wave them away and close the inner door, not come face to face with a goon yet , I treat them with the contempt they deserve .

I have had so many letters over the last few years, I read them for the comedy aspect, then in the bin, I haven't paid the tv tax for years and I am never paying it again. If everybody did the same there is nothing they could do about it. if they think I am going to help pay the likes of Lineker millions to talk about football for a few minutes a week they have another think coming.

Last time they wrote to me, I wrote a letter to them demanding them to remove my details from their system as per GDPR legislation and that if they send anyone around, I'll be treating it as a trespassing event and will call the police accordingly. They wrote to me (without my name as they could no longer use it) to confirm the details had been removed. Never heard from them since in any capacity and it's been four years.

You don't have to allow your details to be kept by an entity you have no contract with and who have nothing to do providing you with a service. If you don't need a licence, they have no right to keep your data.

@@stevegee8010 they haven't got any of my data on file. They removed it. They couldn't even write to me by name. It has to be "To the Occupier". Section 31 is not allowed to be used unless there is a legitimate need for it - and there is no legitimate need in this case. GDPR legislation is clear on data removal. Where I work we have to wipe anyone's data who asks as there is no justification under section 31 to hold onto it. We have a single month to action that, which is the deadline I gave TV Licensing. If there was a data breach and we kept someone's data without a legitimate reason, there would be big consequences.

Fancy one of your female descendants accompanied by her young innocent infants appearing on a “Who do you think you are?” show in a few decades or even a few centuries time (ooh no, they won’t have changed the format) and the researcher smirks as it is revealed to all and sundry that great, great, great, uncle Thurgosh was caught as a baddan by the authorities for not making a donation, to Linicker and the rest, not just a common nor ordinary tax dodger. A general all around bad egg, of the wrong-thinking sort that peruses “Fake News” stories everyday, rather than listening to the BBC! Imagine the shame, tears and embarrassment you will have left as your legacy to history and a possibility of nationwide disgrace for her and the rest of your descendants as they learn the recorded truth about you as their future highlight of their lives’ appearing on “Who do yo think you are?” turns into the worst night of their lives. So just don’t watch and pay, because either way it’s cut they stand to gain more from it than we do and at least without our money they stand to get at least a negligible amount less of it.

42 year paid in, it was OK many years ago but now it's got nothing I like.... Could go on but I gave up on bbc tax.... Gone on leccy /gas instead... And if I could I would hand their meters back as well.... We are truly screwed now...... But profits should be good. (grrr).

I stopped watching tv in 2016 when I realised it was all fake news. Interviewers were so rude to guests who did not follow the woke nonsense, and I was sick to the back teeth of porn and filth. When my husband died last year, I contacted the TV license people and told them I no longer needed a TV, my husband liked watching sports, but I didn't. Anyway there was one month left on the license and I told them they could keep it. They sent me a credit for the one month, and then proceeded to harass me with letters that I would be fined if I watched TV. I shredded the letters, and got one to say they were coming to check I did not have a TV. Haven't seen anyone yet, but if they call, I will slam the door in their face after telling them to sue me. I have no TV, but have been harassed for months. Imbeciles.

Good for you Julie. I'm 11 years without a tv for the same reasons as you. I found a card saying I had a visit about 5 years ago. If I ever had a visit and opened the door as I was expecting family, I'd say 'no thanks' and close the door. I'm glad I found Jon's channel a few years ago as I didn't know my rights.

TV licence is a truly dated concept. It belongs back in the 60's, 70's & early 80's. With today's near unlimited choice the TV licence method of raising funds is basically just a cash cow for the BBC.

Been license free for a few years now. Have had the same letter over and over which gets progressively more threatening. I have had about half a dozen different days which they say they are coming then never show. If and when they do come I will politely say no thankyou and shut the door. Simples. Just annoyed with myself for not doing it sooner

They put their foot against the door in order to ensure access your property. They use their phone as a camera and film your house without your permission. I have a tilt and turn window in my door so that I do not open the door. I just open the top of the window and tell them to go. They have no id no DBS and no appointment all of which are stated on my window which they ignore. I do not have a TV and I do not use I player. It is not a criminal offence not to continue telling them that you do not have a TV. Once is enough. They have pestered me for several years and will not accept that I do not have a TV. I have just got sick of them and no longer take any notice of them.
