I'll never forget Elizabeth Olsen came to talk to my class and someone asked her how she got an agent/parts after she graduated and she said "I'm an Olsen so I didn't really have to go through all of that" and I really respected her for not bullshitting us. This really is what it is like sometimes, but gotta respect when they are just honest with you about how luck and connection is a MAJOR part of being an actor.

She was the musical guest; I am sure they would have done it had she been the host (or booked as both host and musical guest). Rachel showed up probably BECAUSE of her (and probably also because she was noticeably absent from that Walmart TV ad).

@@WrasslinKing Disagree. When you believe what the comic is saying, it's funnier. That's why the actors try so hard not to "break character" and laugh, because it distracts from the believability that they are actually the characters they are playing. I have a degree in dramatic art, so I do know what I'm talking about. 🤷‍♂ And the "secret" is that great comedic actors commit to their characters just as much as dramatic actors.

It feels like the camera was suppose to cut to a close up of someone else before Rachel Mcadams popped up but there was a screw up. She sits down during Sarah Shermans line so we see her before the line introducing her and then the close-up, which i feel was supposed to be her reveal. It seems that's why the audience didn't have a huge reaction to her.

Rachel McAdams had so much to offer here than Jacob. They didn't give him enough lines/space to make this funny.
@BbGun-lw5vi

Rachel is just better at being funny and has more range. Jacob seemed unprepared in most of the sketches and I was surprised to see that he doesn’t have comedic chops. Notice his monologue was a Q&A. The writers usually resort to that when they have a host who’s nervous or can’t carry a monologue.

I didn't watch the monologue but I do see that his effort in these sketches are really minimum. His acting shows he might be taking SNL casually. @@BbGun-lw5vi

It added a whole other meta level to the bit IMO... Yes, Jacob was excreble and why they kept pounding the attraction thing when he looked strung out and skinny and not even trying to be sexy.... Bad move. Remember the dude from that regency era series, they had him act a fool and now I can't remember him an other way.
@profmerlinpants
@profmerlinpants 3 ай бұрын
SNL should push actors out of their comfort zones rather than build on their present image which SNL failed to do on Jacob. Imagine if multiple sketches were built around women and the main jokes were about her physical aspects. That would certainly blow up. Sorry not familiar what you are relating to there. @@bramblehollow

@@profmerlinpants it comes down to range. Did we see him turn it on and off? No. It was off. Was that the writing? I don't know. Rachel did a much better job of being herself and then acting the noob. I think the writers try to demean the sexuality, make it banal and bad. Ridiculing women for their weakness to it. I found it clumsy, inept, and unsubtle. Maybe I'm too much of a Monty Python fan... But really I'm not.
