Amazing information. Great effort from the Para's. 1978 I was a Canadian, playing hockey and drinking beer form stubby bottles. Not a care in the world, while at same time fellow teens from Rhodesia and South Africa were fighting for their lives in Africa. SADF and the Rhodies are a tough but fun bunch, would rather drink a beer than pick a fight with them. Great video series, thanks for posting

My Father was in the Rhodesian SAS. For some reason, it fills me with pride to read about the Elite forces of Rhodesia and South Africa. Makes me proud to be South African. Such a pity it's become what it is today. The ANC will pay for their sins in eternity. As Shakespeare put it: They have no wings to fly from God. When I see the sorry excuse for soldiers in many American units today and I contrast it with the Rhodesian and SA soldiers of old, makes me angry to think what SA could and should b

In Angola and among black rural people in Namibia situation was often confused and rapidly changing and Angola was certainly not as quiet as South Africa. In those situations people try to leave isolated rural villages and find some sort of security. Cassinga was chosen by many because there were soldiers (above all Cubans) and with them a bit of food and MONEY. Of course, Cassinga had become a logistical base for Cuban expeditionary force, like Napoli was for US forces in Italy in WW2 and Cuban provided trenches, AAA and artillery. Finally, it was a legitimate target as well as Grootfontein. Of course, when people are killed is not good, but in war we must not cry if enemy is sometimes more able than us.

Kanyanga Eberhard Africa owes everything to Europeans. They brought Africa ahead by thousands of years (although Africa is now going backwards, since the whites have been ethnically cleansed). That is why Mugabe is begging the white people he ethnically cleansed to return. Africa will remain a hell-hole until they realize it's their own fault, no-one elses' that they're starving. White people brought functionality, technology, and wealth, black people kicked them out, so now they have to live with that. What's amazing is that Africa still *depends* on the white man's altruism, technology and kindness to survive (foreign aid), while at the same time as using whites as scape-goats for the obvious backwardness of black people. Biting the hand that feeds you -- the sign of an insolent child.

It is interesting one thing: SADF men were armed with FN FAL that basically fires semi auto, are very accurate, but with less firepower than assault rifles. So SADF men were actually outgunned and outnumbered . and SWAPO men and women were after all experienced infanty. I wonder what kind of training had SADF men received because they went into a mission that today the most of infantry officers will think against all odds

True... Rhodesia used to be a creditable commonwealth nation and easily found on a map of the civilized world. Zimbabwe is very welcoming, true... just such a pity that the ongoing regime has proved so poor at the continued management of the once fine infrastructure that it inherited in 1980. Let's not discuss the present and ruthless rape of the land by the Chinese... once they have taken what they want they will simply leave - without having added an ounce of value to the nation or the people.

One cannot make the statement that democracy is appropriate for Africa as it has not been tried. One needs certain conditions to implement democracy - one of them being an educated citizenry. Mugabe has presided over a genocide and reduction of his country from the second-largest economy in southern Africa to being a basket case. The greatest success in Africa is white-ruled South Africa with a GDP that was greater than the combination of all other African economies excluding Egypt.

Botswana is a modest state with a higher GDP per capita than South Africa. Angola and Nigeria are indeed doing well and would excel if corruption were eliminated. It however has high poverty. South Africa has been badly mismanaged. Large numbers of skilled whites have been driven out of their country to the benefit of their new hosts. China is enigmatic, but seems it will soon run Africa. Europe is not a happy story now.

The greatest success in Africa is Botswana, which will soon surpass Portugal on PPP per capita basis! I, myself, am planning to invest in there as the tax rate is very low. South Africa's star is fading fast with countries like Angola and Nigeria on the rise. Democracy doesn't always work. Take China for eg, its people are well educated yet they know the chaos that will ensue if they become fully democratic. In fact just 60 years or so ago, only a handful of European countries were democracies.

Ian Smith made the wrong choices and was stubborn, However his adversaries were scarcely better. David Stirling established the Capricorn Africa Society for those who believed that a future without racial discrimination would allow the countries of east and central Africa to prosper. The purpose of the "nationalist" politicians was power at all costs, so Stirling's efforts were in vain. The future is in beneficiation and not raw commodities, but Africa lacks those skills.

I believe that every one of Ian Smith's predictions for his beloved country have come to pass. He was a great statesman that stood up against the whole world and did his best for Rhodesia. In the end, the British sold Rhodesia out and are responsible for what today is a failed state that is dependant on foreign aid to feed it's population. At birth, Zimbabwe had the strongest currency in the region, the highest standard of education, a strong industrial sector, a strong mining sector, the highest agricultural yield per hectare in the world, excellent infra structure ... the list goes on and on. Today Zimbabwe is broken, 90 % unemployment, no currency, huge foreign debt, failed economy, no industry, no agricultural exports, broken infrastructure... the list goes on and on. All fact. Sad but true.

Well if you believe in democracy, you are right. But I don't believe democracy is right for Africa. Chinese style of governance is more appropriate for Africa. If Mugabe steps down eventually (he is old), and they rotate their government every 5 years or so with the most capable people, they would have done it. The mass can never be in control, not even in the West which has a representative democracy but not true democracy. White African should have a place in Africa but they should never rule.

Shame - What does your boyfriend say about your stupid remark. Color has nothing to do with it, it just show that in the mind of the black man all over Africa, race is to blame for everything that goes wrong for them. In South Africa they actually blame everything on Apartheid. Like the statement made by a highly educated member of Parliament: "The Apartheid Regime build the dams too big, that is why they take so long to fill up". God bless you and all those like you.

But the white boys had a choice... service or 6 unpaid years in jail.... many whites did this... we ALL faught together for this... Black bombed white bombed black...etc etc Please study this history All of it... . In war no one winns... we lose loved once, economy, buildings, recourses etc... etc

Corné, don't be hard on yourself Boet. Saluut...

What these imbeciles did in Zimbabwe was inhuman. No need to fight for earth, let them owned it, it’s theirs i guess- they are the only race with no moral value, only race to hate another, only race to kill without remorse and my friend believe God will remember them on judgement day. Ours is the Kingdom of heaven. When Jah returns they will feel His wrath. So sad. They fought this war and were losing bad, they started raiding and killing innocent villagers. Look at the fear on their faces, it’s a feeling I don’t wish on anyone. Those boys climbing the helicopter knew they were going to be tortured and murdered. Dear Britain and the world powers, May the Almighty remember your judgments. Funny thing they did this and achieved nothing, we still own land there. Africa is a mess of what the devil left. But we still own it. We are just waiting for another Moses, to deliver us from today’s Soddom and Gomorra. Love, praise and thanks be u to the creator of life Himself. Batshise Nkulunkulu.

***** Don't play the race card. All people of different races get murdered every day In South Africa. most of the killings are done by their own workers. I am Namibian we have a farm, some of our neighbors are white and if someone wants to murder them we will definitely help them. I cannot speak for all black people just like you cant speak for the Boer Nation.
