Yes we too are hopeful that a NYC can return to its former vibrancy. In our own neighborhood of the East Village many places have reopened but so many storefronts are empty as the rents are high and the neighborhood no longer has any students from NYU or Cooper Union or the New School.

Definitely a whole lot cleaner than when I lived there back in the 60s and 70s. Even East Harlem, where I grew up, it's a whole 'nother place entirely. Even the sky is blue! Not like the smoggy, soupy air we breathed back then. In many ways it's a better city today.

This is an amazing part of NYC, spent most my time there when I visited from overseas in Feb. You could barely see the pavement there were that many people. Love 53rd street because it was the first street of Manhattan I stepped foot in. When I made the plan to visit NYC in December, I came across your video of how to get from JFK airport to Manhattan. I went via the air train & the subway. When I walked out of the subway on 53rd street it was like a different world. Loved the cold weather.

Good to see Fifth Avenue basically reopened but pedestrian traffic is way less than usual since you could barely walk down the sidewalk during summertime. Still think a lot of office workers are opting to work from home since it a lot like working from home. Retailers though are really struggling with many filing for bankruptcy like Brooks Brothers, Jcrew and Ann Taylor. Luxury retail like Bergdorf Goodman have completely dried up. Sad to see much of Little Brazil torn down to make way for a supertall that is likely is on hold for a few years.

Being a native born New Yorker and lived here all my life. Since the pandemic hit New York, the city feels like it went back 40 years from 2020 to 1980. The increase in homelessness, loss of population, boarded up storefronts, retailers going out of business. You cannot walk more than two blocks in Manhattan without someone asking you for change. Many budget hotels in Midtown have since closed and reopened as homeless shelters are people who are troubled. You see more unsettled people in the streets. Going out at night no longer feels safe. The city tax revenue will surely be a disaster in the coming year and beyond. Compound that by the exodus of middle class New Yorkers in the last 20 years. The city is sure in for a long term struggle. Going though the pandemic will be the easy part but riding out the next chapter seems to much more of a challenge.
