not really, he was big part of creating this situation in the first place. his wording was bad, overly complicated and easly misinterpretated under stress. i dont know if they dont get better training or he was sloppy but this is not how you command things. "if you reach for this gun ill shoot you" - the driver only hears "reach" "gun" "shoot you" this is not how our brain works. he asked if he understand that, he didnt, didnt at all. safe command first like: listen keep your hands on the steering wheel, do not move your hands. repeat at least once or twice. you should not mention the gun or make a threat,its redundant just adds stress. you dont need to refer to the gun, its redundant too, you want his hand on the wheel, tell him that. dont start with negatives or worst double negatives. guide him what you wanna see dont tell him what you dont wanna see, this guy clearly had no intent (he couldnt even get it out) to use it or make something bad, he was simply confused and stressed out from start.

@@brittany6315 Hello! I'm just a stranger from the internet, but I thought I'd throw in a random fact. Here in Finland tickets are based on your income. Finland’s system for calculating fines is relatively simple: It starts with an estimate of the amount of spending money a Finn has for one day, and then divides that by two-the resulting number is considered a reasonable amount of spending money to deprive the offender of. Then, based on the severity of the crime, the system has rules for how many days the offender must go without that money. Going about 15 mph over the speed limit gets you a multiplier of 12 days, and going 25 mph over carries a 22-day multiplier. After watching so many videos of police escalating situations putting everyone in jeopardy by power tripping and ego tripping and being abusive bullies, there's this guy: actually trying to protect and serve the public as a peacekeeper the way it should be. ! Instead of escalating the danger like I've seen from bully cops all too often, he constantly tries to de-escalate. He keeps calling the people in the car "bro"; his voice always remains steady, calm, and peaceful, he tells the driver he understands him when the guy says he was scared; just nearly perfect handling of a dangerous situation. More officers like him and less psycho bullies in law enforcement would definitely make the world a better place. This guy is a knight with a badge instead of a villain with one.

Some people, myself included, would take a long time to interpret the word "hands" into the thing physically on the end of my arms with fingers on it. I am EXTREMELY BAD at interpreting body movement commands, and I know it. I learned that in swimming lessons class. It could take me minutes to figure out what command needs to be attached to what body part. I bet there's no jocks (who become cops) who would understand that, since they tended to go into jock sports and junk where they are used to body part commands and would actually be around people who understand that junk. If you ask me to do anything with a body part, you might as well be asking me to do pirouette ballet somersault jumping jacks blindfolded on ice skates while sitting in the car seat, because it would make as much sense to me. Just don't give me body part commands!!! Or, if you do, TAKE A REALLY LONG TIME TO DO IT.

That kid came damned close to being shot, and the officer was correct to draw his firearm. He held it at low ready; he didn't point it. But if the kid had meant to draw, low ready would have been the only way for the officer to bring his firearm to bear in time. I’ve been pulled over for a burned out brake light bulb. When I give the officer my license and registration, I also include my CC license card along with it, after which I keep both hands on the wheel. This allows the officer to know: 1) I have a handgun 2) it is legal for me to conceal carry it. After he sees this, he’ll ask where the firearm is located, and indicate to not reach for or take out the firearm. I’ve never had a problem interacting with police while carrying. But that could be because it was a pretty good 11 hour class which was very thorough, and was also the state of Texas where everyone has a ccw. One big thing to remember is to NEVER touch your ccw or make furtive gestures to remove it when interacting with LEOs. Even if the officer requests to see the firearm, remember to REQUEST THE OFFICER RETRIEVE IT FROM YOU, and do not take it out yourself to hand it to him.
@edifyguy4 жыл бұрын

@BurnDuration4 жыл бұрын
Lotussta yes, I do both at the same time. However, starting the friendly conversation with LEO with the reasons for the traffic stop works best to begin the discussion to indicate you are competent, complying and not a threat. (Not all cops will be calm when you first engage them in a discussion.) Then, of course indicate you have a ccw.
@BurnDuration4 жыл бұрын
GreatNorthernDad agreed. A LEO should never ask that. However, as we all know there are various levels of training and competence. In either case, if in the event this is requested, I would have the officer remove it from my person.
@khavvah4 жыл бұрын
I never thought about the psychology of asking "what's that" and their hands impulsively moving towards said thing. Such a good point; I imagine LOTS of people get in huge trouble for that simple, thoughtless kind of movement. Instilling calm and slowing the situation down (giving people time to think, process commands, and make conscious decisions) would do many tense traffic stops good. When people are hurried and panicked, they make dumb and fatal mistakes. Good on this officer for reading the situation correctly, and hopefully this firearm owner learned a valuable lesson.

It’s amazing what people can do when they aren’t high on fentanyl! Or resist or don’t comply. It really is simple
@thisisme54874 жыл бұрын
@General Zod That one is a sad case. But bringing up one legitimate case does not justify everything that has been going on. Or even two or three. Yes, it happens, and it's usually due to negligence. Not because of cops actively searching out black people to murder. Sounds like the Philando Castile case only had to do with race in that the Officer claimed that the victim looked to resemble a robbery suspect in a case he had dealt with earlier. That shouldn't have been enough to pull them over as if it were a standard traffic stop. It should have been treated as a violent felony stop, which probably would have saved the victims (Philando Castile) life. That was the Officers first mistake. That doesn't mean it was racist, it was profiling. Second, the only reason it turned into anything was because the victim was in possession of a firearm. Here's where the Officer really seemed to screw up. He was way too twitch in how he responded to the victims actions. The cop absolutely should have been convicted of a serious charge relating to gross negligence. But again, this was a legitimate case very unlike a lot of what we are currently seeing where the "victims" are repeatedly refusing to comply to Officers' commands. And they also almost always turn out to either have a warrant for serious charges, or have a long/nasty rap sheet.
@thisisme54874 жыл бұрын
@General Zod You're part of the problem if this is a contest to you. Of fucking course some cops do stupid things. They're human. You win? Philando Castile didn't win. Glad you could get some satisfaction out of his death though. Disgusting.
@thisisme54874 жыл бұрын
@General Zod Like seriously. You're glad that some innocent black man was negligently killed by an Officer because it proves some point of yours that cops are human and can do stupid/bad things too, which any idiot knows. How sick are you?
@thisisme54874 жыл бұрын
@General Zod Which, if true, makes it acceptable that his attackers and most all of these "victims' being shot/killed by cops have a long rap sheet of very serious offense and/or active warrants for their arrest. Gotcha. For the record, one of Kyles attackers was a sex abuser. Of children. Another was a domestic abuse convict, among many other serious charges. The guy he shot that had a gun? Yeah, he was a criminal too. The guy the cops shot that started this set of riots/protests? Yeah, active warrant for his arrest for sexual abuse. Or maybe it was agg assault. Or both. I can't keep up with all these criminals' charges anymore. I guess it's just okay for black people, because it's expected of them? Is that what you're saying? And white people who are supporting their cause get a pass too because...idk just because. Got it, makes sense. I'm guessing, without looking into it, Kyle being a woman beater is false, based on who I'm dealing with. I'll go check it out, but even if he is, it doesn't make anything all these rioters are doing right. It just makes Kyle another one of the bad guys. In which case, doesn't that mean you should admire him?

Excellent work by the officers in this one in terms of realizing that nervous people make dumb choices. Also important lesson for the folks who think that police just "gun people down," as opposed to reacting to those bad choices. I like the lower-powered light, putting a big lumen light on the guy on a non-violent stop for the "see the interior" purpose is just begging for a human reaction of the guy jerking his hands up to shield his eyes. No need to create problems.

One thing I've noticed with people that are really amped up is they almost invariably do exactly what they are told not to, because they aren't thinking rationally. They are in a very suggestive state. Also, one of the common things in adrenaline dump is to think with your hands. Someone says something about your gun and you reach down to touch it. It's normal, and it has to be trained away. Step one is to stop teaching young men that getting pulled over is a death sentence, so they can freaking relax a little.
@fishhunt98744 жыл бұрын
Jamoni1 You don’t think that maybe, just maybe that the driver knew that there were 2 stolen firearms in that car with him. When you know there are illegal firearms in the possession of your friends, that can understandably make you more nervous than you would be without that knowledge.

Jamoni1 I agree with you. That cop was very savvy assessing what was happening in that vehicle. Focusing on the driver but keeping an eye on the 2 passengers as well. He had his hands full but did not over react. That front seat passenger was doing his best to keep the driver alive. He was giving the driver hell for taking his hands off of the wheel!
