Is Pegg a prequel hater, though? His character in Spaced certainly was. But they made fun of that character for that. There's that whole scene where Bilbo points out how the Ewoks were shit, just like Jar Jar and Tim goes into a fanboy rage to try and convince him its different. He seemed to make fun of the prequel-hater stereotype too much to really be a hater himself. He might not like them as much as the originals and he might detest Jar Jar. But then I'd agree with that and I like the prequels overall.

Question: if the Borg were to assimilate a Jedi/Sith, would the entire collective become force sensitive? I mean, they share a consciousness and if one of them has midichlorians, then I don't see why the entire collective wouldn't then be able to access the force. It's not like the force can't act at a distance. And using this reasoning, it follows that with each additional force-user they assimilate, they would grow that much stronger with the force until they eventually reach a god-like level of strength with the force. Checkmate, Star Wars universe.

I'm both a huge Star Trek and Star Wars fan. Each franchise is great in its own way. Unfortunately, I think the new Star Trek: Discovery show will be a massive dud, but we still have the big screen Star Treks to look forward to as well as the new Star Wars films. Despite it being a knockoff of the original films, I was really impressed with The Force Awakens and also really liked Rouge One. As for Star Trek, I really hated Star Trek Into Darkness, but apart from some minor stuff, I really like Star Trek Beyond. So I'm hopeful for the future of these two franchises even though I think Discovery is going to be a bomb.
@jerobriggs68617 жыл бұрын
P.S. I really liked Star Trek: Nemesis. I liked all the films apart from Into Darkness, which I personally thought was total shit. He was right, he was saying the truth regarding the myth of Gene Roddenberry's dream, constantly fueled by the stupidiest of trekkies, just to dismiss all the new Trek shows... Roddenberry's dream never existed, the show was never a pacific trip through the galaxy, and in all of trek shows there's room for guns, violence and fight... that doesn't mean that ST is advocating for war and violence, it's just that the writers always, SINCE THE BEGINNING, used violence many many times to convey drama and deep thoughts and feelings. Trekkies nowadays, whining because the new shows are too "dark" are completely delusional, and that's what Spiner, in my mind, tried to say. It's only logical 🖖 that all that people attacked Spiner, they were who invented the "Roddenberry's dream", founded in absolutely nothing

I agree with this completely! I actually appreciate and love BOTH franchises for their different aspects. Star Trek is very good at the exploring new worlds and hard science fiction (although i still can't get over why tachyons broke EVERYTHING), and Star Wars is way better at the gritty rough and tumble adventures of science FANTASY where a lot of the tech breaks down if you really analyze it for more then 5 minutes (trust me i've done this for my own fanfic writing in which I strive to be as accurate and respectful as possible to established cannon, and found it very difficult to find enough sci-fi reasoning to present my own ideas and find new creative ways to bend my storylines using various plot devices that were impossibly difficult to keep in canon aside from 'it's scifi fantasy so it doesn't need a deep explanation' which doesn't work well for my thinking since I usually like to write up a huge 'bible' for all the details I come up with to keep it all perfectly straight and do deep thinking about how the various elements would interact. I found it incredibly difficult to design armor for one of my characters to the detail I usually do because I found a lot of 'soft' science on how blaster bolts work and I wanted to define out how the various layers of material would interact with a blaster bold and what kind of breakdown would occur gradually so I could figure out pretty precisely how much punishment the materials could take (I don't like to OP my charactesr and have them be invincible and unkillable..wounds and the scars they produce make for very good character development later)). I loved visiting the Star Trek Experience when it was still open, and i'm ALSO amped to visit Galaxy's Edge in 2020 with my family reunion (And getting married on the side!). I find it a little sad people have to turn it into a VS thing, and even start proposing stuff like 'Enterprise-D Vs Deathstar'...which does make for interesting thought experiments but people end up taking it too personally because their franchise 'has to win' and they get all butthurt about it and forget it's just an interesting exercise (and the whole sci-fi fantasy soft science makes it super super super hard to really figure out the potential outcome without filling in tons of holes). I love both! There's so much to enjoy in both of them. I've enjoyed the films, shows, videogames, and everything else! I won't ever pick a side. Every time someone proposes 'which is better' I just shake my head and say it's comparing apples to oranges, but they're both still FRUIT and I enjoy eating both!

@Wolfie7137 жыл бұрын
What about a crossover by reference rather than appearance? Like a lightsaber being lost on a ship and Luke making a mention that it's lost (to them) but, with being able to see the future, says that centuries later, it will be found and ultimately destroyed in a far away galaxy. Then in a Star Trek movie (or a TV show?), the ship is found (no power, etc), the lightsaber found, still working, but then they flee from the ship due to an incoming battle, and the ship/lightsaber are destroyed. That would be a way to tie them into the same timeline/universe, without causing continuity issues. :D

Kinda odd you talked about Ed Begley Jr. and forgot to mention he was also on the original 'Battlestar Galactica'.

Matthew Hudson because the title mentions star trek and star wars and not battlestar galactica

And yet there are clips and mentions of other series and movies that are neither Star Wars nor Star Trek and the original BSG had a few elements of both.

Bill Mumy appeared on the Twilight Zone before playing Will Robinson on Lost in Space and later played Lennier in Babylon 5, and Walter Koenig that played Chekov on Star Trek played Alfred Bester on Babylon 5. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy each appeared on the Outer Limits before being on Star Trek. Outer Limits even had an episode called project Vulcan. They also appeared on seperate episodes of Bonanza and so did Deforest Kelly playing a Doctor and later played Dr. McCoy on Star Trek.

Brock Peters is another one. He played Ben Sisko's dad in DS9 and Admiral Cartwright in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (And Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home). He also was the voice of Darth Vader in the NPR Radio Drama of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (which are EXCELLENT, by the way. You can listen to them here: archive.org/details/StarWarsRadio). And to add to that, he also played a non-recurring character on the original Battlestar Galactica! JW3HH

Clint Howard. He played a role in almost every star Trek show. He also appeared in Solo, which was directed by his brother.

They should make a parody of star trek & star wars and call it 'Star Star' LOL
@ShalmendoGlineux5 жыл бұрын
They kind of already did in the form of Spaceballs, in which they make references to both. Although granted it's obviously more of a parody on Star Wars then Trek, but there's still a few good Trek laughs.

They are actors. They have the urge to put food on the table. Earn in order to provide. So what if they done voice over work for the "opposing franchise"? Real sci-fi fans are not as hardcore as you portray them. A fringe section of them, sure. But you see that everywhere. The rest of us, the sane ones, just want to see good quality sci-fi (and not cash grabs). If that means they work on more franchises, we thank them for it. It's not about betrayal. And if you see it as that... seek help. :)

Fionnula Flanagan played Data's "mother" on ST:TNG and was also the mother of the kids in the two Ewok TV movies from the 1980's. She's in her 70's now and still quite active according to IMdB.

Uh, I believe there's a more simple explanation for people popularly associated with "Star Trek" taking a part in "Star Wars" productions. They are professionals and these are paid gigs they have agreed to be employed for as a way to earn a living. It's not "jumping ship," it's show business.

Brent Spiner's comment wasn't given in context to the rest of the interview. If this was 2018 I'd be shouting fake news, fake news. Overall he praised the franchise. And I couldn't disagree more about Clive Revill. Ian McDiarmid was amazing in Return of the Jedi and the prequels. But I prefer the original look and voice of the Emperor in Empre Strikes Back 100x better. The re-edits are not nearly as good. First off the make-up looks weird, it still does even after 2011. And second the original dialog was perfect the way it was. I new that monolog between Vader and Palpatine by heart. They've never fixed it all the way since Lucas OCD butchered it.

People that think there is anything of a rivalry between Star Trek and Star Wars are completely ignorant. The two series couldn't be any more different from each other. It's like trying to compare the Alien film franchise to the Doctor Who TV series. They are in different genres made in primarily different mediums using different methods to address different problems with different themes. But because they are both popular, highly influential, and important pieces of pop culture and have similar names, people think there is a rivalry. The only people who continue this infantile dichotomy are people that have not given both franchises a fair chance; they are both excellent and highly worthy of attention.
@happyvalleykid63247 жыл бұрын
XuntosIzor You're both right and wrong. Are they completey different? Yes. But, does a rivalry exist? Also yes. Despite the obvious genre difference, the rivalry still stands, and I playfully despise Trekkies... (playfully I might add, us nerds gotta stick together)

The only 'real rivalry' is snatching eyeballs and dollars. But that goes for ANYTHING. Hello Kitty is as much of a rival of Superman if you look at the 'back to school backpacks' they're trying to sell to the kids...why not do a crossover backpack? lol. But seriously, I love all the franchises you mentioned and won't be trying to smash them together unreasonably in some kind of Vs like Ripley Vs the Doctor Vs Worf or something....granted the thought experiment of it would be fun but people get hung up on how 'their favorite franchise' has to win over the others and end up getting butthurt instead.
