Thank you for your detailed information on the install. I did your suggestion and added the inline filter. Also picked up from OReilly's. Only thing I did different was picked up pump from ebay, couldn't pay O'Reilly's price. Ebay price $54 plus tax and free shipping. Thanks again.

Aaron Hines, you're my hero! A month ago I had my high pressure line replaced due to a leak and because of access, I wasn't confident in fixing it. Last week the pump went bad and they quoted me $1269.43 to fix it! Having priced pumps in advance, I about fell over when they justified the cost by saying "the new pump is $1061.79". To which I replied, "only if you're dumb enough to buy it from Acura." Watched your video, ordered the part and fluid, and I'll be fixing it myself the day after tomorrow for about $200 total. Thanks for giving people like me the confidence to tackle this kind of job! I want to add a filter too but the store sites both show 3/8" ID and 5/8" ID filters as "fitting my car" which obviously can't both be right. Anybody know the actual ID on the low pressure hose?

Look carefully at the threads on the new pump shaft- standard right-hand thread. The impact will take the nut off with you holding the pulley by hand with gloves.

Good clear video. Can a pump go bad but not leak? Should the system be flushed out when new pump is installed?
@AngieMusicArt
@AngieMusicArt 6 жыл бұрын
Great video! Is it possible that a leak can be caused by a bad o-ring only? There isn’t a funny noise with the Acura I want to work on and the steering wheel turns fine. There is just a leak that happens daily. The car is the same you’re working on. Hope to hear from u soon!
@AaronHinesAuto
@AaronHinesAuto 6 жыл бұрын
Yes the o ring can leak which can cause the fluid to become low. I have replaced just the o ring before. It seals the high pressure hose to the pump. I purchased the o ring from a Honda dealership and it only cost a dollar or two. Let me know if I can help Any further
@AngieMusicArt

I replaced the low pressure o ring and no more leaks!! But I think the fluid needs to be flushed. I had to take off the timing belt cover to access the 10mm bolt under the hose 😬 and the bottom center where the bolt goes on the cover broke..

Hey man hear job bro you made that look so easy and described everything n every move you made so my pump went out a few months ago like within weeks to it went out really fast without hardly any warning it just basically started getting a little tight like it just needed fluid so put fluid in and it just really quickly got tighter and tighter to the point that the fluid just was not making a difference anymore so I am a girl I used to work on my Honda not anything to heavy r crazy tho just replacing window motors n my belt that thing was a bitch took me at day n the next morning lol but I am going to try my best at changing the power steering pump myself I am kinda nervous I hope your get my message n if there's any reason I have any question I can figure out myself would you message me back thank n keep you the best work bro oh one other thing are you sure Honda fluid is the right one I been always told to get Acura like the top grade most expensive for import car Acura kind and if you don't mind me asking where did you purchase the pump or where is the best place to get it for the best deal and did you know if your city worker that you get I used to be 10 but I think it went up to 20 or 30% off of any purchase at AutoZone nowadays just a little FYI

You don't technically have to use honda/acura brand power steering unless you like paying double for fluid. Using automatic transmission fluid is an ok alternative for power steering fluid for these cars and will work just fine for a fraction of the price. This is all just within my experience of course.
