I sat in the new TLX a couple months ago. I'm 5'11" and even with the driver's seat set to my position, there's plenty of leg room in the back for someone my height. Anyone taller than 6' in the back, I'd probably have to move the driver's seat up a little. This is no different than in a 3-series or C-class and actually better than the Lexus IS and Genesis G70 I've sat in. Quick side note, shoulder room is VERY good for this class and makes the cab look really big. Kinda surprised Todd would go for a Giulia instead, it's even MORE cramped inside than the Genesis G70, let alone the TLX.

As for the kids growing up, a 1 or 2 year period (U.S. average of 1.93 kids and most kids are not 6' 3" until 16 or so if they are going to be larger than average 5' 9' American male height). I’m 6’3”, and bought a 2021 TLX A-Spec SH-AWD a month ago. This review is spot-on. I love the way the car looks, the way it drives, and the front row of the interior. But the back seat is a joke for a car of its size, and the trunk has a smaller opening than my 2008 Civic sedan (I could fit my hard-sided cooler in my Civic, but can’t fit it in my TLX. Had they extended the roofline in the rear 4”, given the back seat 2-3 more inches of legroom, and made it a lift back instead of a trunk, I think it would be a perfect car. But as it stands, it’s a compromise. I was between the TLX and the RDX. I went TLX for how it drove, but I suppose time will tell if it’s a car I can live with long term, or if the back seat and trunk comprises force me to sell the car and look elsewhere.

Yep, nailed it about space. If SUVS are selling, then why are automakers making sedans lower with less headroom? That's not what people want. Sedans in their golden age weren't like that. They were taller with more greenhouse.
@TheEquationSlayer3 жыл бұрын
The do-it-all sedans of the "golden age" were losing to SUVs, so automakers had to adapt by either changing them or just stop making them. I think doubling down on the sedan's strengths, looks and handling, is a reasonable way to keep them relevant to at least some buyers. The trade-off is lower ride and less headroom, but most consumers who care about that are already in an SUV.

Disagree here. For Sedans to exist at this point they need looks and fun driving. SUVs and Trucks have them beat in practical use.

Acura had such potential in this design came so close and totally dropped the ball in day to day things like ergonomics and space and mpg. And their trim levels make zero sense. Sad to see. Stinger design, or the Sport back design is the way you save sedans. To me the sport back is the next evolution of what sedans need to become because they are sill practical and fun. Great review and discussion here. It’s a shame that the general car buying public’s overwhelming preference for CUV’s has meant that car makers feel the need to take drastic styling measures to draw people to sedans, which then compromises them so much that buyers end up in CUV’s anyhow. Which is essentially confirmation bias that we “need” the space of a CUV or SUV. I agree with Todd - Giulia or G70 for my money.

These guys keep complaining about the interior space - yes, it's a bit smaller than a mid size should be, but for an average size adult, the space is fine....not huge but adequate. The touchpad is where Acura dropped the ball - needed a rotary dial, as the touch screen makes fingerprints

According to J.D. Power research data, 65% of TLX buyers are men, matching the average for the Compact Premium Car segment. They are slightly older than average (58 years of age vs. 56), and they're making less money than average

This makes sense. I have a TLX A-Spec 2021 for about $47,000. The main competition, the Audi A4 and the BMW 330i, when comparably equipped cost $55-60k. it put luxury within the reach of the people making less money than average.

News flash : a car doesn’t have to be everything to every person. I like the styling. So what if it doesn’t have head space for six footers. They can buy other cars. Why must every car need to be one size fits all ? If you want rear room, get the f-ing Accord and stop botching.

@@stephenpatterson8056 I agree. That’s why I was saying that there are other cars. Some people want a lot of room, or in your case, a car that fits you. Since you guys get nice (top shelf) press cars; it would be really awesome of you TWO to request TWO of the same press cars - one top shelf like this TLX A-Spec SH-AWD and one of the bottom trim, minimally-spec'd (e.g no packages if possible) FWD. The A-spec is a $2700 option that REQUIRES the $4,000 Technology package; so in essence, it is a $6,700 option. Then the SH-AWD is another $,2000 on top of that. So, the one you have is $8,000 plus other options/accessories more than the starting point. Where does my extra $8k go? Is the 20% more of MSPR really worth it??? or absolutely necessary???
@TestDriveVideos3 жыл бұрын
Great question. However, manufacturers rarely have anything below the mid range of any model available to press. In general they want reviewers in the highest options possible to put the car in its best light. Thanks for watching!

BTW, the Stinger is a POS! I truly do not understand car reviewers. They act as if reliability somehow doesn't matter and as if everyone is earning 100k a year. A person of modest means can buy a used one of these and still have a reliable car as opposed to buying a new Stinger (no longer made) and going to the dealership for repairs and hoping the repair costs aren't so bad once it's out of warranty. So the back seat is cramped. So what? It reminds me of my dad's 1972 Ford Torino. it was a two door. For a good time in my life I was able to get into the back seat as a kid. Then, by the time I truly outgrew the back seat, it was time to take my own driver's test and get my own car, which was a 1982 Chevy Monte Carlo. Again, not a lot of room in the back seat. I didn't care! We live in such a woosified era!
